Navy officials say they have suspended a captain because of unspecified allegations in connection with a massive bribery scheme probe.

The Navy said in a statement Thursday that Capt. David Haas has been removed as deputy commander of the San Diego-based Coastal Riverine Group because of the ongoing investigation into the defense contractor, Glenn Defense Marine Asia Ltd., or GDMA. The riverine group oversees port security.

Apparently so. Especially when they say relieved of command due to ‘unspecified’ or ‘undisclosed’ reasons it calls into question whether or not he was a set up in order to purge the patriots. That’s the way I see it anyway.

Or, this guy was involved in criminal and illegal behavior. I think that is the much more likely explanation and those who are corrupt should be purged from the ranks.

Politicians, of course, are immune from such culling of the herd. That’s why Washington is such a cesspool of graft, corruption, organized criminal behavior, and sheer idiocy. While the Democrats have long ago retired the trophy, the Republicans tag along trying to mimic their behavior.

How many Criminal Naval Captains, Colonels, Admirals and Generals have you ever know of in the history of our United States? They don’t get their stripes or stars from Cracker jack boxes.

Well, I know many who have held that rank, and who hold it still, though on the retired list. I am one of them. Most are honorable men and women and have served their country well, enduring many sacrifices involving wealth and family to do what they thought right.

But, a very small fraction are willing to trade their hard earned status and power for financial, sexual, and egotistical gain. Once they are discovered, we eject them from our ranks and cast them into the darkness that they deserve. But, they are out there, have no doubt.

Please present some evidence that this case does not fit into this scenario.

And another one bites the dust. With the NSA snooping into everyone’s personal lives, blackmail reigns. Lenin, Mao, and Hitler could not have dreamed of such technology at their fingers.

There is no way that I would deign to contradict your firsthand knowledge. As a six year E5, thirty years ago, I learned that the upper tier officers passed a rigorous scrutiny to get where they were.

I know that even the law of averages will support a few bad apples in every set. But please tell me, what do you think of the apparent upsurge in the number of individuals in authority relieved of command for undisclosed reasons or with no disclosed charges.

It seems to me that an administration that hates and despises the military is on a witch hunt if only for the purpose of destroying moral authority enough to facilitate its reforming a progressive people's military. Or are we just being paranoid?

I don't think that there is an upsurge. The number has been pumped up by including all officers released for any reason including reductions in force. General Officers and Admirals sacked so far this year amount to 10 or 11, or about 1% of the total currently on active duty. In my experience, that's about normal. One of the reason that some of the bad apples show up at the General Officer level is that having survived the intense scrutiny and competition, some of these guys come to believe that they are bullet proof and their egos get the better of them. Human nature.
