Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
And with those words said by John Fitzgerald Kennedy at his inaugural address in 1961 so-called Camelot began. Words that became part of our nations collective consciousness words embraced by both Democrats and Republicans yet words bastardized and twisted by todays Democrats to mean, ask what your country can do for you so we can keep your loyal to the party.
And nowhere is the twisting of these great words more evident than in todays Obama run government as We the People are asked to turn over our Constitutionally given freedoms and rights to aid Obamas goal of cradle-to-grave control over every aspect of our lives as were taxed and bled dry as this government redistributes our wealth to fund its goal of transforming our beloved America into something unrecognizable to us.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy our nations first Roman Catholic president which was as big a deal back in 1960 as Obama being our (supposed) first black president is today is probably the most documented and chronicled Democratic politician to date. Yet JFK the man todays Democrats so revere was more of a mainstream Democrat who belonged to a Democratic Party where grassroots Democrats todays Blue Dogs were the true champions of middle class Americans, and a party where civil rights blossomed because it was the right thing to do NOT because blacks were seen as pawns to be used and manipulated for votes as they are by the Democrats of today.
So when did the Democratic Party of JFK start to change when did the Democratic Party veer so course that it started to embrace far-left progressivism and outright socialism it started abruptly on November 22, 1963 with a single bullet the day Camelot died or did Camelot always exist only in the minds and hearts of the old-time Kennedy Democrats the brand of Democrats that are NO longer around as the Democratic Party of 50 years ago little resembles if it resembles at all todays Democratic Party.
And what of Kennedy himself are his ideals even compatible with todays Democrats I think NOT for his very words echo more the ideals and beliefs of todays Republican Party of todays TEA Party movement than the words of Barack HUSSEIN Obama and his Democratic Party faithful a band of miscreants led by the likes of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and little lapdog Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
I dont believe in big government I believe in the balanced budget. So said JFK during the Kennedy-Nixon Presidential Debate in 1960 words as foreign to the ears and minds of todays Democrats as was his belief in capitalism and the free market for JFK understood what todays Democratic Party and its leaders do NOT he understood the Economics 101 concept of you cannot spend more than you take in. In fact, mere weeks after his Inauguration he said, Lower rates of taxation will stimulate economic activity and so raise the levels of personal and corporate income as to yield within a few years an increased not a reduced flow of revenues to the federal government.Sounds like Republican ideology doesnt it.
Our tax system still siphons out of the private economy too large a share of personal and business purchasing power and reduces the incentive for risk, investment and effort thereby aborting our recoveries and stifling our national growth rate, Kennedy said. Sounds NOT unlike Republican candidate Mitt Romney during the 2012 Presidential Debates.
Also, in 1962 Kennedy issued an Executive Order that prohibited the FBI and CIA from collective bargaining for national security reasons meaning like Republicans, Kennedy did NOT believe that unions should be in charge of our nations security. However, in 2002 true to liberal Democratic philosophy Billy-Boy Clinton insisted that every part of the new Department of Homeland Security be subject to collective bargaining and you all know how that turned out.
As goes steel, so goes inflation Kennedy said, and when US Steel announced an increase of $6 a ton in the price of steel, Kennedy knew that an agreement to hold prices steady was in place and this allowed him to get union leaders to drop their seventeen-cent-an hour proposal. Kennedy was able to convince all parties involved that they were helping to contain inflation to improve the countrys competitive position abroad. JFK a Democrat concerned about inflation was a Democrat who stood strong against big union something you will NEVER see from todays Democratic Party.
And unlike many of todays catering to the muslims Democrats Democrats like Obama and John Kerry who stab Israel in the back every chance they get Kennedy was a staunch supporter of the Jewish State. Israel will endure and flourish. It is the child of hope and the home of the brave. It can neither be broken by adversity nor demoralized by success. It carries the shield of democracy and it honors the sword of freedom, Kennedy said as he initiated security ties with Israel, and founded the US-Israeli military alliance something todays Democrats are starting to shy away from.
Also during his short term in office Kennedy tried to push through (but failed) his version of health care reform a Medicare bill that would have allowed those in the work force to contribute to their own old-age health insurance program under Social Security instead of being forced to rely on public or private charity. Sounds NOT unlike Republican Mitt Romneys health savings accounts proposal.
First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth Kennedy said. And so began an era of American exceptionality in space an era ended by Barack HUSSEIN Obama and the Democrats with the discontinuation of the Shuttle program with NO replacement in sight along with a newly Obama forced NASA objective of muslim outreach. The man the Democrat who reached for the stars had his dream of space exploration cut short by his own supposed party.
And while todays Democrats love to say they celebrate tolerance, unfortunately that tolerance is often done through a one-sided view of tolerance intolerant tolerance so to speak a view that treats those on the opposing side meaning Republicans, TEA Partiers, and believers that America is one nation under God as hate-mongers and extremists. And this is NO more evident than in the pro-abortion/pro-life debate. And here again Kennedys views are NOT in sync with todays Democrats for Kennedy appointed pro-life judge Byron White to the Supreme Court. And while Kennedy was a known womanizer he had a certain moral compass that went hand-in-hand with his Roman Catholics beliefs a belief in God, family, and the right to life.
But all was NOT as most Democrats today have made it out to be for Kennedy himself was NOT a popular president with the American people. The popularity he had..his fame and success so to speak was as much because of Jackie Kennedy as it was because of anything he did or said. The young, beautiful Jackie enamored the American people to him for she was Camelots queen more than he was its king.
And so Kennedys re-election in 1964 was not a given and while todays Democrats still see this man as the untouchable King of the Democratic Party the reality is that aside from some memorable quotes and some beliefs that were anything but what the Democrats of today abide JFKs presidency was, for the most part, a presidency made of urban legend a presidency forever seen through rose-colored, romanticized glasses. Kennedys true legacy is a legacy of The Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis that took us to the brink of annihilation and back again, with his missteps in both dooming the Cuban people to 50+ continuing years of Fidel Castro and now his brother Raul Castro.
So while today we honor and memorialize our nations 35th president a man whose presidency encompassed just 1000 days it must be remembered that Kennedys presidency was unfilled as to the possibilities of what it might have been. And now many question if JFK was liberal enough to have been a member of todays Democratic party. And to that I say NO for I think Kennedy would have been more in step with todays moderate Republicans NOT RINOs per se but more like the Republicans of conscious who are willing to cross party lines if it is for the good of the country.
And to that I say
But look at us! We're unbiased, although the race pimps would never admit that, as we've elected a negro as our executioner.
JFK wouldn't recognize this poor, decrepit nation and what our elected asshats have allowed it to become.
Hell will be a busy place, but all the leftists will feel at home....for a while.
If I ever visit his grave I must remember the Words of my Father, "Dance first. Then piss."
A lot of pundits make suppositions about where JFK would stand if he had lived. The only thing I can say is look at where Teddy Kennedy stood, and it is probably very close.
Today’s democraps can’t be stopped by bullets to the head. They’ve somehow adapted like the Borg.
It should at least be pointed that JFK did not "say" this, he quoted it, though without attribution.
It goes back at least 2000 years, probably to Cicero. Before Christ.
JFK was actually a immoral shell of a man who gets way to much attention, crooked as they come. A liar just like all politicians...period.
It became apparent during the 1968 Presidential Campaign that the American Communist Party had seized control of the Democrat Party, and in my opinion, Communists are still in control.
not a big fan of the man, but he was more conservative than the last 2(probably 3-5 too) republican candidates....
his dalliances were not important to me as long as he was out to end communism. A little known fact, was that dad Joe Kennedy was a Nixon fan and was prepared to fund his election campaign if Jack lost the primaries in 1960.(not a fan of Nixon myself either....)
The only thing I can say is look at where Teddy Kennedy stood, and it is probably very close.
...I don’t know...Edward Kennedy struck me as a very stupid and impulsive individual, who sneaked through life riding the coattails of his brighter siblings...left to his own devices, he made very public messes of his life and his dealings with people...the mark of a stupid man...
JFK was a giant fake poster boy for the most gigantic fifth column in human history.
“not a big fan of the man, but he was more conservative than the last 2(probably 3-5 too) republican candidates....
his dalliances were not important to me as long as he was out to end communism. “
Be careful Vaquero, I mentioned that Kennedy was a supply side tax cutter yesterday and was called a Democrat worshiper.
We have our low information voters too...blinded by Ds and Rs.
I often wonder how JFK would be perceived and viewed today if he were President in the 24/7 media world and a universe that includes Facebook and Twitter, etc..
The man was a slut who tapped anything that moved. He makes Bill Clinton look celibate.
JFK was more conservative than most members of today’s republican party. Most of today’s republicans, especially the RINOs that control the party, need to become democrats, starting with Boehner and Cantor.
Would it be in poor taste to great people today with, “Happy JFK Day”?
great s/b “greet”.
Yes he was, and he was also a vicious fan of Adolf Hitler and an incompetent military person on a John Kerry order, as well as a mafia-mongering perv and druggie.
At least he wasn’t gay, that we know of.
He quoted it without attribution. It was also used by at least one other President going back to the early 1800s.
He did not write any of his “books” and was a steaming pile. Had he not been killed he would in all likelihood have gone on to lose the 64 election. He knew this and as one of the talking heads this morning pointed out only 50% of the US public in 1963 considered his death a tradgedy. The real tradgedy was the an even worse POS, LBJ was his successor in F***ing the Constitution.
The myth of “Camelot” did not end Nov 22, 1963, it began then with the mythology that he ever amounted to more than a steaming turd.
One other big myth about John F’n Kennedy; he did not start the space program, he picked up on the program that was started by VP Richard Nixon in the late 50s. The moon landing was part of that plan but the schedule was more circumspect with respect to safety. Once he had made his man on the moon in 10 years speech he forced NASA into a whirlwind compression of the schedule so that he could claim the credit. In an instance of pure political karma, the man he cheated out of the 1960 election and who actually started the space program and got it going was president Richard Nixon on July 19 1969.
“Yes he was, and he was also a vicious fan of Adolf Hitler and an incompetent military person on a John Kerry order, as well as a mafia-mongering perv and druggie”
You have JFK mixed up with Prescot Bush, the Nazi collaborator. JFK served his country for 4 years in World War Two, as a matter of fact joining before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Anyone comparing his Naval service in WW2 to John Kerry’s 4 months in Vietnam is letting their hatred of the Kennedys get in the way of common sense.
In September 1941, after medical disqualification by the Army for his chronic lower back problems, Kennedy joined the U.S. Navy, with the influence of the director of the Office of Naval Intelligence, former naval attaché to Joseph Kennedy. Kennedy was an ensign serving in the office of the Secretary of the Navy when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. He attended the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps and then voluntarily entered the Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Training Center in Melville, Rhode Island. Thereafter, he was assigned duty in Panama and later in the Pacific theater, where Kennedy earned the rank of lieutenant, commanding a patrol torpedo (PT) boat.
Kennedy on his navy patrol boat, the PT-109.
On August 2, 1943, Kennedy’s boat, PT-109, along with PT-162 and PT-169, were performing nighttime patrols near New Georgia in the Solomon Islands, when PT-109 was rammed by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri. Kennedy gathered his surviving crew members together in the water around the wreckage, to vote on whether to “fight or surrender”. Kennedy stated, “There’s nothing in the book about a situation like this. A lot of you men have families and some of you have children. What do you want to do? I have nothing to lose.” Shunning surrender, the men swam towards a small island.
Kennedy, despite re-injury to his back in the collision, towed a badly burned crewman through the water with a life jacket strap clenched between his teeth. He towed the wounded man to the island, and later to a second island, from where his crew was subsequently rescued. For these actions, Kennedy received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal with the following citation:
For extremely heroic conduct as Commanding Officer of Motor Torpedo Boat 109 following the collision and sinking of that vessel in the Pacific War Theater on August 12, 1943. Unmindful of personal danger, Lieutenant (then Lieutenant, Junior Grade) Kennedy unhesitatingly braved the difficulties and hazards of darkness to direct rescue operations, swimming many hours to secure aid and food after he had succeeded in getting his crew ashore. His outstanding courage, endurance and leadership contributed to the saving of several lives and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
In October 1943, Kennedy took command of a PT boat converted into a gunboat, PT-59, which took part in a Marine rescue on Choiseul Island that November. Kennedy then left PT-59, and returned to the United States in early January 1944. After receiving treatment for his back injury, he was released from active duty in late 1944.
Kennedy was honorably discharged in early 1945, just prior to Japan’s surrender. Kennedy’s other decorations in World War II included the Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars, and the World War II Victory Medal. When later asked how he became a war hero, Kennedy joked: “It was easy. They cut my PT boat in half.”
No, I don’t.
JFK visited Germany and was very, very taken with and supportive of Adolf Hitler, to the point of claiming that later years would understand Hitler’s greatness.
And his service on PT109 was a bloody travesty. There was no way he should have managed to get his vessel knifed.
