DURHAM Crystal Mangum was found guilty of second degree murder Friday in the death her boyfriend, Reginald Daye.
In a quick-moving trial, jurors deliberated over four options: first-degree murder, guilty of second-degree murder, guilty of voluntary manslaughter or not guilty.
That Mangum stabbed boyfriend Daye, 46, on April 3, 2011, was never in question.
She admitted during the eight-day trial that she poked Daye with a knife in the side of the chest with a steak knife at his apartment, but she claimed she did it in self-defense while he was straddling her and trying to choke her.
Daye told investigators that Mangum stabbed him during the argument after she disrespected him by bringing other men to his house.
Both said that sometime during their fight, Mangum went into the bathroom and locked the door and that Daye broke the door down and grabbed her by the hair. Mangum said he dragged her out of the bathroom by the hair and that she stabbed him shortly after that.

good...now if she would just get tangled in the wire trying to escape
Friend of Rev. Al.
Jesse Jackson...please pick up the courtesy white phone...reverend Jesse Jackson...please pick up the coutesy white phone...
we had her nailed for what she is....way back when...if it smells like a pig.....etc
Some journalist should interview all of those scumbag Dukees that signed that stupid letter supporting this POS and ask them what human quality did she possess to give her their support!
I don’t know...do the Duke lax players have alibis during the murder???? /s
Sounds like good evidence of self defense.
How could Daye testify to investigators about his murder ?
Crystal Mangum? Oh, yeah. The drunk lying stripper whore.
Black skin, and female genitalia accusing rich white boys.
if the guy was dead how did he talk to investigators?
To her supporters in the media, the DA’s office and the Dewk faculty lounge, she was a “struggling single mom and veteran, working part time while trying to get a college education.”
After his stabbing, Daye lived for several days before succumbing. He was interviewed by investigators.
Jesse was going to raise funds to pay for her to go to college, as I recall. I wonder where that went?
I think he died from his wounds some time later.
He died 10 days later. I’m glad this POS has finally gotten was was coming to her.....hope she gets a good, long prison term now!
Ya know, back in 2006 when the DukeLax thing blew up, once everyone got a look at the skanky creature that was supposed to have been raped by the Lax team, it was obviously BS.
Those guys DO NOT have to resort to such desperation. And everybody knew it.
Where is the picture of Crystal; that’s a man.
Everybody? I can think of at least 88 people who didn't.
Yeah, you’d think the LAX team could have found some attractive Duke co-eds to strip for them. never mind; there aren’t any.
No, they knew it was bullsh!t. But they didn’t care. Like all committed Marxists, the end justifies the means.
The characteristic was that she is black, and everyone jumped to the conclusion that mean white boys took advantage of an innocent black girl.
She was judged based on the color of her skin, and the color of the skin of the males involved. She was not judged on the content of her character.
If Owe-bama had an older daughter....
Did he live long enough to tell his side of the story and then die? This story seems weird.
Buh bye and good riddance.
It does, but she is learning the price of crying wolf now. Sometimes people won’t believe you even when you do tell the truth.
She also spun quite a tale when accusing the Duke Lacrosse players, and some false accusations before that.
It’s about time.
He died 11 days later.
Gee, how about that? Wonder how many letters the Duke faculty will issue condemning Crystal?
"Disrespected" is not even a word, it is Ebonics speak.
Well Crystal, you reap what you sow.
“Friend of Rev. Al.”
Not sure about that, but during the Duke Lacrosse fiasco, Jesse Jackson and his Rainbow Coalition gave her a full scholarship to college. After all....Jesse said this poor girl was innocent and raped by those horrible lacrosse players.
Jesse...you’re an idiot, and all of us here at FR knew she was LYING! Those poor boys went through hell!
I love to see karma working. What a horrible person she is.
That they did, just like the guy Tawana Brawley falsely accused.
Darn...just when she was starting to get her life together.
At least she has better hair than Debbie Blabbermouth-Schultz!
“That they did, just like the guy Tawana Brawley falsely accused.”
Horrible case too!
Also, I think Mike Nifong should be in jail, but at least he’s bankrupt and shamed. Well....let’s hope so.
If she murdered him, how was he able to tell investigators what happened? Did he survive initially, long enough to get to an ER and speak with investigators about her ‘disrespecting’ him?
Gee...this is like a reunion of the Duke lacrosse Free Republic regulars. We were here all day and night for months following this case, weren’t we? And we immediately had that malicious Crystal figured out from the very beginning, didn’t we?
Now I don’t understand why she was charged with 2nd degree murder and not 1st degree.
The Group of 88 was a group of 88 professors at Duke University all of whom signed a controversial advertisement which was published two weeks after a woman falsely claimed to have been raped by members of Duke's lacrosse team. The advertisement, which appeared in the Duke Chronicle on April 6, 2006, contained language implying that the charges were true.
Later, of course, the group of 88 claimed their words were mis-interpreted and they tried to backtrack. But, as far as know, not a single one of them faced ANY suspension, sanction or firing, meaning justice was not entirely served in this case.
IIRC, she was charged with murder one, but apparently the jury decided there was insufficient prior intent.
I think one of them is even a dean or department head now.
