A state trooper accused of triggering a three-car crash on Route 1 in Revere that smashed up a cruiser and put an on-duty trooper in the hospital has been suspended indefinitely without pay today, state police announced.
Trooper Shawn DAmato, 43, who authorities said told EMTs he had smoked crack within an hour of yesterday's crash, was arraigned in his Massachusetts General Hospital bed yesterday on charges of drunken and drugged driving, negligent operation; and failure to change lanes for an emergency vehicle.
EMTs also observed "apparent track marks on (D'Amato's) arms, suggesting intravenous drug use," Jake Wark, spokesman for the Suffolk District Attorney's Office, said. The trooper also lost his driver's license today for 180 days, according to the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
D'Amato, who had worked at Troop F at Logan International Airport, was released on his own recognizance and ordered not to drive.
After the arrest, State Police Col. Timothy Alben insisted his department is addressing its officers problems, and isnt facing a crisis of poor discipline.

Hopefully, no dogs were harmed during this incident.
But its just drugs. /s
I guess this isn't the same F Troop that was on TV decades ago.
Just how hard is it to fire government employees anyway??
......spokes person Alben: “this is not who we are”.................yes it is you idiot!
This is what is wrong across the country! No accountability! The Chief, or head of this organization, should surrender his or her badge and gun tonight! There is no way in gods green earth this guy was doing this (track marks on his arm) while active in this police organization without others knowing about it. If the top officer didn’t know, he/she should be fired for that. If he/she did know, they should be fired for that. If any other officer knew about it, he/she did not do their job to enforce the law and should be fired too. For anyone that doesn’t know what this is called, it’s called “Accountability”.
Drunk on beer or syzurp?
Wonder if he’ll retire with disability payments.
Sweet deal, if you can get it.
Nothing would surprise me
or benefits for post traumatic stress...
And that's all that matters.
He had dogs to shoot.
Hey thats my line.
Sorry. You can say you’d hit it, somewhere else, as an amend. :)
Thanks man now I have to go find a really good thread.
So the cops couldn’t see that one of their coworkers was a hard core druggie?
We are supposed to believe that?

Wow....in the real world... Private sector....he would be terminated immediately.....
For some reason, Copland, the movie with Stallone, comes to mind.
He should have stuck to just smoking Marijuana.
He will lawyer up and he will claim an addiction.
.......well sir, you are entitled to believe whatever you want.
But, I believe that a police officer who is on crack and has needle tracks on his arm is not something that could be hidden for long or indefinitely by said police officer from his fellow officers who are trained specifically and routinely to observe and be on the lookout for just that kind of behavior and identifying needle tracks. One of my very best friends of 40+ years was a narc, and a very good one, a long time ago. I said to him tonight “John, do you think it is possible for one of your fellow officers to be on crack and have needle marks on his arm and not one of his fellow officers, over a long period of time, be aware of it. The answer was a flat “No”.
Yup Boston columnist/talk host Howie Carr has nicknamed them F Troop in the past. (That’s the next target of the PC crowd—heavens, the theme song says “redskins”....)
We ageee except on the long period of time. If the majority of his coworkers can’t take one look at him and tell he’s using then they should be fired.
He must look like the guy from the Village People.
He was inflicted in the line of duty. That was second hand crack.
Police officers can now have tattoos up and down their arms (sleeved) as long as they have them completely covered up all year round. Think needle tracks could be hidden in among ink work and aging color?
Needle tracks can be hidden with long sleeves. Kinda hard to hide the glazed eyes and other behaviors that go along with it.
They knew and covered up for him.
I agree. I was just trying to head off some freepers saying “we’ll, they wear long shirts” or something like that. Well, if they wear long shirts sooner or later SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE is gonna notice it and say something to SOMEBODY and the gig would be up. It simply would be impossible to hide indefinitely and some ACCOUNTABILITY needs to be applied to others, in my opinion.
