MADISON, Wis. -
Federal agents said they have arrested an elderly Wisconsin man after he threatened to shoot President Barack Obama.
According to court records, 81-year-old Elwyn Nels Fossedal stated during a visit to the Richland Center post office on Oct. 15 that, "if President Obama was here I would shoot him right there and kill him right now."
U.S. Secret Service agents interviewed the man at the Richland Center Police Department the next day. They said he refused to recant his threat and made a number of other threats against Obama. Fossedal was charged on Nov. 21 with threatening the president.
But Fossedal faces other charges in connection with actions he is accused of taking with police and family afterward.
According to court documents, after Secret Service agents interviewed Fossedal, Richland Center police took him into protective custody for psychological evaluation due to "comments he had made toward the president and also his inconsistencies with speaking to the agents and to the police officers."

Anyone with enough sense to actually plan to shoot the president never mentions it to anyone.
Maybe he is looking for free health care now that his insurance has been cancelled . ..
Well you can not threaten the POTUS. Of course that law should be prosecuted impartially buy even the moron in chief can not be threatened with shooting in the head.
Whats he got to lose?
He is 81, He has free health care in Mediscare.
Poor old guy. He recently lost his wife, so I can imagine his mind isn’t quite right.
That's not a threat - if anything it's a statement of fact.
Jail is a helluva lot cheaper than a nursing home.
Fortunately for us FReepers, the black helicopter folks haven’t yet discovered a way to scan our brain waves. We’ll know they’re close when they start building a whole bunch more prisons.
Better to be safe than sorry.
this is cBS!!!
You mean if someone threatens the President, it’s supposed to be reported?
True. I’m sure living conditions in jail might even be better than a lot of nursing homes.
I plan on using a time machine to give stanley ann a few pills of ru-486 back in 1960 .... if only I can get my flux capacitor working. Then I plan on seeding some clouds over dallas in 1963 november over deally plaza too.....
Actually, the grammar police picked him up and turned him over to the Secret Service. Due to the failure to use proper verb tense (i.e. If President Obama WERE here....), further investigation was warranted and the man was arrested.
Yeah I remember when all those people who made threats against Bush were arrested. /s
“if President Obama was here I would shoot him right there and kill him right now.”
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
All he has to do is claim he said it in the same context as
“If you like your current insurance plan, you can keep it.
Proper treatment would be impeach, convict for treason, and THEN given the maximum punishment. Old guys should just have to sit back and watch.
It's not a threat, since it was mere speculation dependent upon a situation that didn't exist. Obama wasn't there, so it was rhetoric, not a threat.
Thanks Extremely Extreme Extremist.

Egzacly plus the additional sup plan starting at around 200 per month
Open season on Zimmerman and conservative is completely acceptable, oh, and white babies too.
Forget the sarc tag or just trolling?
Richland, WI man threatens to shoot President
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Poor old guy. Maybe he finally finished reading the 0Scare bill.
I am fairly sure Mr. Kilborn was not arrested over this...
HA. My sister attended ‘Kill Bush’ parties in the Seattle area. NOTHING was ever done about it.
And, for the record, I have absolutely no contact with her whatsoever. When she needs more money, good luck getting in contact with me, sistah.
Let me guess...he was white? Will they be paying Oprah a visit too? She called for all the old white people in the south to just die...code words for more knockout games on old whitey, IMO.
If he lived in Texas, the Feds would never get a conviction. They probably can’t even get one in Wisconsin outside of Madison.
Did I miss something about white babies?
Figures. Madison, WI. The thought police are everywhere. The guy should have denied everything and said that his statements were taken out of context and that he meant that he would shoot a picture of him with a camera.
I think his statement is an act of free speech and therefore he should not be prosecuted....
Too close to November 22 to be funny.
I know a old geezer here in his 80s who can barely walk who says similar sounding stuff, but not about himself doing it.
Better than a nursing home.
That’s what I was thinking too. Free room and board for life.
Cannot imagine he will get convicted as charged.
Lets put the seniors in jail, and the criminals in a nursing home.
This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies, and walks, theyd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical treatment, wheel chairs etc. and theyd receive money instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring their meals and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual counseling, pool, and education.
Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, P.J.s and legal aid would be free, on request. Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens. Each senior could have a P.C. a T.V. radio, and daily phone calls. There would be a board of directors, to hear complaints, and the guards would have a code of conduct, that would be strictly adhered to.
The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone, and unsupervised; lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week. Live in a tiny room, and pay $5000.00 per month and have no hope of ever getting out.
Your astute observation rang a distant bell in this 82 year olds memory. I do remember that some fairly well known media personality said this. To the effect that a Republican politicians wife and children should be killed. I do concede it was not really serious, but how b....y nasty!
I have respect for the office of the presidency and indeed still have a certain amount respect for President Obama. Ok, I know it is somewhat against the grain here. My anger is against the rotters that corrupted his young mind. Now, I have quite a story about meeting a man who was going to assassinate Canada's socialist/communist Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau..... (laughs)
Oh, that fool. His real name is, I believe, Paris Lewis.
Ahhh, good one... :P
Richland Center is only about 50 miles from Madistan
Just saying something or typing words on the Internet is a crime?
if you joke or type some words then you are arrested. and that is freedom?
this is the criminalization of speech or thought. if you actually made an action to threaten someone that's different but a comment, ridiculous imo
I'm so sure this 81 year old was such a threat to obozo
what if someone impersonates you on the internet or hacks your account on some site and writes a "threat". then your life is ruined. also what if someone falsely accuses you of saying something. ridiculous
