Riffing on Hanukkah holiday, prime minister says Israel will be a ‘light unto the nations’ in dealing with Tehran should diplomacy fail

Melding the Hanukkah holiday and foreign affairs, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu solemnly vowed to serve as a “light unto the nations” and act against Iran’s nuclear program should diplomacy fail Thursday night.

Speaking at the Western Wall for a Hanukkah candle-lighting ceremony, Netanyahu compared Iran’s nuclear program to a darkness that would be forced out by Israel, referencing a popular children’s song for the holiday.

“We came to drive out the darkness, and the largest darkness that threatens the world today is a nuclear Iran,” he said. “We are bound to do all we can to prevent this darkness. If possible we will do this diplomatically, if not we will act as ‘a light unto the nations’.”

Jerusalem has denounced a deal signed Sunday between Iran and six world powers that eases sanctions in return for limits on uranium enrichment and a more intrusive inspections regime.

The prime minister, however, said he had “not given in to delusions” that Iran would pull back its nuclear program, comparing the nuclear deal to a failed diplomatic initiative meant to stymie North Korea’s nuclear program.

“I believe in speaking the truth, and standing for important principles in order to ensure peace in the world and our security, and of course our peace,” he said. “We will continue to act in this spirit.” “We came to drive out the darkness, and the largest darkness that threatens the world today is a nuclear Iran,” he said. “We are bound to do all we can to prevent this darkness. Well, I read it, twice. Bottom line it it not an “agreement” of any kind. It is a “plan of action” with no teeth in it whatsoever. It states a goal of a “long term comprehensive solution”. The very last words in the document are “nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed to”. This document, in common business parlance, would be an unsigned, non-binding term sheet.

Can this document really be what Kerry and Obama is saying is the “agreement”? If so, it beggars the imagination that it could construed as any sort of a binding agreement. If Kerry says this is failsafe, he is a liar.

Well, you cannot say the Saudi’s don’t like the idea of a nuclear capable Iran less than anyone else over there...

For starters, having the Jews do what they can is a win win for them...They get their money and a few other things I imagine for the use of their facilities...

Number two, I do not believe the Saudi’s like the idea of nuclear tipped (North Korean design) missiles flying over them and their nieghbors...

So taking Iran back a few notches might be in the regions bast interests...It may not stop the inevitable Genie that has been trying to get out of that bottle over the last 10-15 years...But hey, Israel have to look out for themselves these days...

The current political make up in the US of A is toxic to them...So they are not listening to us anymore, and I totally agree with there next move, when and if they make it...

I expect nothing of the Iranians and therefore never disappointed.

All agreements are useless if there is no enforcement.

This “agreement” or understanding or whatever you want to call this dialogue is just a starting point.
