Former New Hampshire Republican senator Bob Smith said he has changed his mind and will try to defeat Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen for his old seat next year.
Smith told WMUR Political Scoop on Sunday that he had made a decision not to run largely to get out of the way for other candidates, but as weeks came and went no major candidates got into the race, and he kept getting encouragement to run.
"I have a decision to run again for the Senate," said Smith. "This is nothing personally against Jeanne Shaheen, who I like as a person, but I couldn't disagree more with her politics."

Didn’t he start bouncing off the wall a decade or more ago?
He used to be a pretty great conservative, then something happened and he went completely wonky. I always wondered if he was being blackmailed or had a honey that was leading him around.

As late as the middle of Aug he was saying he wouldn’t run. But I guess since
no one had come forward he’s changed his mind or someone helped him change it.
We voted for him when we were in NH. Then, yes, he went off the rails. Haven’t heard a thing about him since.
A wise move on his part—he will be seen as a newcomer and not tainted with the Obamacare scandal.
NH has no strong candidates and Mitch is trying to recruit Scott Brown. This unusual character was once a strong conservative, maybe he is back in the clubhouse. We know Scott never was a member of the club.
Well...I read up on him on Wikipedia. Ehh, not the ideal candidate, to say the least. Seems to be a bit of an opportunist, even by politician’s standards. Still, I’d have to think he’d be better than Shaheen. And every GOP win in the Senate inches the party closer to a majority. And a majority would go a long way to keeping Obama’s plans in check.
Plus, I really, really would like to see Reid lose his bully pulpit.

Scott Brown put up some good numbers against Shaheen. But, it’s time to fish or cut bait.

Don’t know about the newcomer label but he’s been out as NH senator since 2002.
He moved to FL, tried to run as Presidential candidate but no support.
If Bob Smith runs it’ll be a clear win for Shaheen. He is total goofball.
These guys just don’t understand we don’t need more Rebublican lite.
At one time I thought he was a solid guy. Then the floor fell out. You don’t turn a belief in Conservatism off and on. You either get it or you don’t.
I think the call is in on this guy.
They can elect him, but they just as well put their rain coat on first.
Actually this is a plus because it will force the Democrats to spend more money in the state draining their national funds. This weakens their chances in states we have better chance of winning (state leans Democrat). Also because of Obamacare Jeanne Sheehan approval ratings are falling. His entry makes the state a tossup.
I never said I like the guy, but I think he will drain resources from the Democrat’s national fund. He will make them fight on another front. He is the not the race we need to take over the senate.
How old is he? I remember him from years back and he wasn’t youthful then; he must be really long in the tooth.
How can you like Shaheen as a person? She is a rabid baby-killer...
