Posted on 12/01/2013 7:29:09 PM PST by South40
House Democrats are blocking their Republican colleagues from using Obamacare in letters mailed on the taxpayer's dime to voters, but who made up the term in the first place? Lots of people are asking this question, getting answers like "Certainly a republican, potentially Glenn Beck" and "I am about 80% sure it was Rush Limbaugh" and "Hillary Clinton's campaign coined Obamacare." Iowa Rep. Steve King claimed President Obama himself made it up. Free Republic posters want to claim credit. Lots of liberals suspect an insidious plot by Fox News. But the answer appears to be: a lobbyist.

If the liberals are snippy about the term “Obamacare,” would they prefer DemoCare.
“If the liberals are snippy about the term Obamacare, would they prefer DemoCare.”
Whoever is was, it may go down as one of the best long-term political moves in modern US history. Tie the disaster to its master.
So call it the Affordable Care Act and point out how unaffordable it is. And that names of bills can be highly deceptive.
As much as I like the name Obamacare, the AFA makes me laugh Everytime I hear it called that.
>>So call it the Affordable Care Act<<
who says the minority party can force the Boehner cowards over a word ?
The article mentions “Hillarycare,” and that obviously came earlier. One might also mention “Romneycare,” which likewise came earlier.
The name is hardly surprising.
Must be a way to search for the first instance of ObamaCare® here on FR.
I don’t remember ever seeing any FReeper trying to take credit for the term. Hmmmmmm.
This lib skank makes Sandra F-uke look like the Virgin Mary.
If you haven’t had a ride on the town bike named Elspeth, you would be a rarity.
She has less credibility than Al Jazeera as a news source.
Ignore her, unless she’s servicing you (take a number).
It should be tattooed on him.
I call it, RobertsCare.
"The president's specific words: I'm really good at killing people, authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann write"
Obama coined Obamacare. I’m not even going to cite it.
If he hadn’t, it wouldn’t be in use.
Some Sunday ‘conservative’ pundit headlined that BO is weak as a president.
Dope. what a dope. He is very powerful against his enemies.
Some celeb counter said BO was non influential among 2013 non influential.
Dream on. They got that on Red Eye, saying BS to that.
The term Obamacare is from his mouth.
He’ll get rid of it too, with this kind of assistance from his traitor lackeys in the press who chase him for crap he drops in his wake, hoping they’ll not have to get in on it.
Eugenics NEVER ‘died’.
Hey Demicaraps???? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqsT4xnKZPg Let’s kill people! Just the ones who don’t agree with us or are a strain on ‘the collective’.
That would make it TraitorRobertsCare....
And this writer tossed a bone to FR hoping they’d pick it up and take responsibility.
I hope FR is not egotistical as that, as much as the press is.
Obama coined it.
Looks like we started calling ObamaCare® in early 2009.
Sure Obama owns this disaster but I would prefer to hang it on the congressional fools that voted for it.
Obama is term limited but the congress critters that voted for this abuse of power can stay in power for life.
We cant let them run and hide from their responsibility for forcing this law down the throats of Americans.
We need to do everything we can to see to it that these Socialist fools loose their jobs over this dung heap of legislation.
It was me.
It’s Obamas baby. He owns it. He is responsible for it.
Shades of Song of the South, Obbama is stuck to this Tar
Next time, let us know what you think of her. Don’t hold back like you did this evening.
I don’t recognize any of the posters from the linked post back to FR from 2010.
Is there a mass banning every so often?
It’s Obamacare, deal with it.
From now on I’m calling it Obama’s Affordable Care Act. OACA
I also like HusseinCare.
“Free Republic posters want to take credit.”
Huh? But I wouldn’t be surprised if it originated here.
We’re about 48 hours ahead of the MSM on breaking news and light years ahead of the rest of the country on everything else.
A grateful nation gives us thanks, we understand.
Heard, understood and acknowledged. No prob.
I don’t know, but good on em’.
I do know who coined the term “Liberalism is a mental illness,” and it wasn’t a popular radio host. It was first used on Lucianne’s website.
I happen to prefer “Reid-Care” or “Pelosi-Care”.
They are the two people who are most to blame.
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
formerly known as the Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009
You're right. Dems know there's major problems with the program... that's why they're switching to 'affordable care'. Sooooo Owellian a name...
You know what? he told a crowd of supporters in Texas recently. Theyre right. I do care.
“From the NYT, Aug 2012Whether Democrats can change a pejorative into a positive is unclear, but after three years on the defensive, they have resigned themselves to the fact that Obamacare has become the popular name for the sweeping social program, and they are trying to spin it in their direction. Particularly since the Supreme Court upheld the laws constitutionality, Mr. Obama and his allies have tried to take ownership of the term.”
Then call it ‘ObamaDon’tCare’
A genius idea like that most likely came from a collection of geniuses.
I almost didn’t pass the test when I registered here. (Cheated.)
I think I coined the term, and I think I was the first to use Obummer.
Now, since I claim responsibility for the term, I also feel responsible for changing the term, so, I think Obamacare should be renamed to something that better reflects what it does to America.
The new term is “FUCare” or F.U.C., as an abbreviation.
Some might like the temr “FUBOCare”.
Closer to Zerocare.
Now they are censoring GOP mailings
