An Ohio high school is on lockdown amid a standoff with a student that has a gun, authorities say.

A Toledo Public Schools spokesman told the Toledo Blade that the student is contained inside a classroom alone at Scott High School.

Police said the gunman is 15 years old, the newspaper reported.

Good thing the courts took God out of the public schools. Why, who knows what crazy things the students might do if they followed the Ten Commandments!

Police: Suspect in Scott High School incident now in custody
Posted: Dec 02, 2013 9:56 AM EST
Updated: Dec 02, 2013 10:49 AM EST

Toledo Police say the suspect is now in custody after responding to a reported person with a gun at Scott High School in central Toledo.

Police say the person is not an active shooter. The school is currently on lockdown and parents have been notified of the situation.

Toledo Police spokesperson Lt. Mark King says police negotiators are speaking with a 14-year-old student who is isolated in a hallway. King says two classrooms near the hallway have been evacuated.

King says police negotiators saw what appeared to be the handle of a hand gun, but that it is unclear what type of weapon the student is holding.

A TPS spokesperson says this is an isolated event and students are safe, but will not be released until the situation is resolved. King stressed that all other students still inside the school are safe.

"I think there’s a pretty darn good reason to kill this kid."

Wait, did you read this all?

If I read it correctly the kid HAS a gun NOT Pointing a gun or waving it around but it sounds like it is stuck in his pants or clothes etc.

That is not a reason to shoot and/or kill.

First of all it could be a fake gun OR not even a gun at all.

If the description in the story is true then it sounds like they handled it right.

but shooting BECAUSE he has a gun is wrong! Period.

WHEN he brings it out and starts pointing it THEN its trigger time.

As long as he’s handling the gun in a responsible manner there isn’t a problem.

"You are a bleeding heart liberal"

I see, well I just read a new report on the story. The kid FOUND the gun in the restroom and was taking it to the office.

Now there Dick Tracy do you still think he should have been shot?

Lets just call it what it is I am not a kneejerker. When I shot I am sure of my target.

You on the other had should not be near anything stronger than a squirt gun because clearly you are clueless!

BTW there is no report about the kid finding the gun. I just made it up to prove a point. WHY because no one knew the situation, yet monkeyboy was going to shoot a kid who didn’t need to

High school age students used to be able to take their guns to school and practice with them there if they had a range on campus. But that was in another America long ago.

"High school age students used to be able to take their guns to school and practice with them there if they had a range on campus. But that was in another America long ago."

MY freshman year of High School I took my 22 bolt action to school (with the bolt removed an in my pocket) as I was walking down the hall with it the Vice Principal saw me and asked to see the gun. He asked me what I was doing with it as he looked it over.

I told him I was taking it to metal shop to tap it for a scope. He then told me in a vary stern voice. Make sure you get the scope mounted far enough forward that you have some distance between your eye and the lens. He said its a first timers mistake to think they need the scope very close to the eye. He then asked me to bring it by his office after I got the scope on. And I did.

Can you imagine the response now to the same scenario?

You are a bleeding heart liberal. Obviously he shouldn’t be killed, but that’s not because he doesn’t merit it for his own actions and decisions to waste time and endanger others with his selfish behavior. Bleeding heart liberals always take the side of the ones causing the trouble and blame the ones they are harming.

You are a bleeding a-hole.

You do not kill someone without trial unless they pose immediate risk of fatal or critical injury to another. Not for 'wasting time' or 'being selfish'.

Bleeding a-holes always take the side of unconstitutional and often fatal oppression by an all-powerful state.

Good thing they did not kill him. Seems that unless there is active shooting going on, best not to fire on a 14 year old with a pellet gun immediately.

LOL - the response today would be the principal would call the cops and someone on their keyboard would be tapping away that you should be shot. That said, this is a different time - and the kid might have been up to no good. Luckily police officers are trained to err on the side of safety - for all... including insane 14 year olds - if possible.

I was on the marksmanship/rifle team in HS back in ‘80-’81, ‘82...

We used to be able to go to the instructors locker, get the precision rifles (.22 LR’s, XP-??? somethings, I forget exactly), put them in our POV’s and carpool to another HS that had a portable building setup as a range for us to practice...After school of course...

If we ran late, we took the rifles home, and brought them back to school the next day, and locked them up...

No big deal...

ALL firearm safety procedures were followed to a “T”...No one ever worried about our activity, only if we were doing well enough to compete, which we did...

One of my sisters is 5 years older than me. Her senior year in high school, she along with two other seniors and another boy from a different high school were New Jersey Jr. Indoor rifle team champions. That year there was a picture in her year book showing the team with full gear.

The next year My younger brother and I and two other kids from different schools were NJ sub-junior team champions. When I was a freshman, my brother was in 8th grade and the other two team members went to different high schools but the year-book printed a photo of us also.

When I was in 8th grade, i had a paper route and was “carrier of the month”. The photo about this award had me in my competition gear with my Anshultz Match 64,that photo was posted on the wall of my science class for 6 months.
