Unable to pull himself away from the golf course at a resort in Bermuda, the Mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, was absent from the scene of the train derailment in the Bronx that killed four people and injured 60 others on Sunday.
When asked by reporters why he did not show up to give support, the Mayor replied, “What can I do? I’m not a professional firefighter or a police officer. There’s nothing I can do.”
This is not the Mayor’s first nonattendance in a major crisis. In December 2010, one of the largest snowstorms on record hit the east coast, dumping almost three feet of snow. Mr. Bloomberg took to traveling to his multimillion-dollar mansion in Bermuda while the blizzard swiftly moved into New York City. This time, when questioned about his absence during the initials stages of the storm, he responded that no matter where he is n the world, he is “always in charge.”

well look, the mayor is right. there’s nothing he can do. like he said he’s not a firefighter or police officer, so he really doesn’t need to be there.
he’s also not a postman, crossing guard, street sweeper, trash collector, teacher, principal, file clerk, bus driver.
come to think of it mayor, why do you show up at city hall at all?
He’s in his last few months, so he doesn’t have to care.
I’m not saying that he cared before, but he definitely doesn’t now. He has no appreciation for his position.
Biden’s fault
He’s right for once, but Nanny Bloomberg has paper trained so many New Yorkers into thinking they cannot blow their noses or wipe their bums without his divine intervention and most benelovent legislation, that they will need to be slowly weaned off that dependency. De Blasio will own them soon enough, and he will use them as socialists do, but I don’t get the whiff of severe Meglomania with him as I immediately got with Bloomberg. He may surprise us though, once completely in that position of power. Rahm Emanuel also strikes me as a person who should be prevented from having too much power, for the good of all.
If Bloomberg digs enough I am sure he will blame this somehow on a Big Gulp cup.

Mayor Bloomberg now has 11 homes, after buying two more New York properties
The billionaire mayor gobbled up two more properties last year, expanding his real-estate holdings to 11. And that doesn’t count Gracie Mansion, where he’s entitled to live but which he has shunned.
Financial-disclosure records the mayor released yesterday show he bought a $4.55 million ranch in North Salem in June 2011, adding to the $3.65 million spread he acquired there in 2001.
Mayoral aides didn’t say why Bloomberg needed a second home in the exclusive Westchester town that counts David Letterman among its residents.
But North Salem is horse country and the mayor’s younger daughter, Georgina, is an accomplished equestrian who keeps horses there and in Florida.
Under a special arrangement, Bloomberg allowed the seller, Joseph Pinto, to stay on at a rent of $100,000 to $250,000 for 207 days.
Three months after closing that deal, Bloomberg plunked down another $20 million for a grand estate in the Hamptons.
So he’s now paying taxes on places in London, Bermuda, Vail, Colo., Armonk, Wellington, Fla., and New York City, where three properties are held in his name. The latter three are his Upper East Side town house, his foundation property and a condo.
As usual, the mayor released a “re-creation” of his annual tax returns that substituted broad letter categories for the actual numbers. And as usual, the 116 pages in the federal returns were littered with “G’s,” the top category of $500,000 and up.
All indications were that Bloomberg, one of the wealthiest men in the United States with an estimated net worth of $22 billion, is doing better than ever.
His absence indicates he’s ready for the Presidency.

I’m with you. This idea that every mayor or legislator has to show up at an accident shows just how creepy our society has become. Worshiping self made demi-gods and looking to them for guidance is embarrassing.
If this was a shooting, he would have gotten to a camera tuit suite. Ahole.
Oh but I bet if he heard that a company in New York was going to begin selling 80 ounce soda’s, he would be all over that immediately and get off that golf course as quickly as he could to grab a microphone. Worst Republican in history. Yes I know he became an independent recently but he was elected a few times as a Republican embarrassingly enough.
I agree with him. I don’t like it when high profile politicians rush to a disaster scene. Why do they do it? Free face time on TV. All the accomplish is getting in the way with their entourage.

Bush chose to continue to read a book for a few minutes to not concern children. He was castigated.
