Skip to comments.Video: Sticker shock greets those who successfully navigate Healthcare.gov
Posted on 12/03/2013 9:32:12 AM PST by Hojczyk
Now that those glitches have been taken care of, Newsnet 5′s Debora Lee reports, one Ohio woman finally went shopping for health insurance on Healthcare.gov and wishes she hadnt. I thought it was supposed to help, Liz Binns told Lee, but now she asks, How can I pay this kind of money out?
Welcome to the (kinda) fully functional ObamaCare (via The Right Scoop):
Binns had been trying to navigate the governments health care website since October to find affordable insurance for her husband, a 60-year-old who has a pre-existing condition and whose job doesnt offer coverage.
What she finally found for him Monday carries a premium of more than $400 a month and a $5,000 annual deductible.
How can I pay this kind of money out? she asked. Its going to take at least a second job and praying that I would make enough on a second job just to pay for this health insurance.
I thought this was going to be the miracle for us, she said, and its not.
Its not the website. The website has been a distraction for Americans.
Its the bill coming due that Obama will have to explain every day until
(Excerpt) Read more at hotair.com ...
It only took two months
Maybe Obama was better off when it was broken.
Wait until they find out what they will be getting for their money.
It will be called ZEROCARE.
Yet another LIV that believed they were on the taker side of the equation.
They were angry when it didn’t work.
Now they are livid because it does.....................
As I’ve posted on a couple of these threads. Our monthly premium went from $800/m to just over $900/m. However, our deductible went from $2500 to $12500.
What this means is our out of pocket expenses each year, should we actually have to USE medical care, will be about $25000. Cash. After taxes. That’s before insurance pays a dime for us.
We make less than $60k/yr.
What this means in actuality is that my husband and I both can no longer afford to see a doctor for yearly visits. We will have to visit our doctors on alternate years. And since the med prescriptions they write are only good for a year, my husbands cholesterol medications will become an every OTHER year item for us.
with a 6500 dollar deductable,
the proper way to calculate the monthy cost of an Obamacare (obamalie) policy is:
Monthly premium + ($6500 deductable divided by 12) = actual premum.
so this would be (montly premium + $541.67)= montly bill/tax
this works because the subsidies are for the lowest plan. If this was not a government operation the obamacare sellers would have recieved fraud charges for selling useless insurance.
Those who voted for socialism are to blame.
All the fools who believed that the government would successfully cover up to 30 million more people YET reduce your current health plans by an average $2,500, PLUS you can keep your plan if you like your plan PLUS you can keep your doctor if you like your doctor.
These people should lose their voting privileges for the next 2 election cycles for their stupidity.
Obama was better off when it was broken
People need to get the prices and details of the cost of obamacare
then they need to figure out that the penalty for not buying what they can’t afford is not $95 (per person) it is 1% of income (2% next year), whichever is GREATER
so they get higher taxes AND no affordable health insurance
The $25,000 deductible is the devil is in the detail. You pay $10,800 per year, then you have to pay another $25,000 before the insurance kicks in. I keep hearing more of these stories everyday. They tell you your insurance premiums will go down $2500 per year which is BS, and your deductible goes up 5 times. The best is yet to come, Ill be getting my sticker shock next year.
you will be better off looking for ala carte plans to coverage medications (some major pharmacies like CVS and even WalMart are coming up with these), and clinics and senior centers that offer free healthcare screenings and immunizations
why even pay a premium for insurance you can’t afford to use? That’s $10,800 a year right there.
If you get really sick then sign up, they have to take you.
Or get on a plane to a country where medical care out of pocket is cheap.
If you go on MEDICAID eventually the govt will own your house and all your assets to pay it back
I suppose ERs will still have to treat anyone who walks in but they will become a ZOO (some already are)
One of the whiny pleas used to get this monstrosity passed was the number of people who had to declare bankruptcy due to medical expenses.
They ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.
And the new ones will be for ‘regular’ medical care like ‘broken leg’ and ‘suspicious pap smear’ in the same year. Heaven forbid you want some preventative care like a colonoscopy or mammogram. Those doctors visits will easily run $5K. Which YOU must pay BEFORE insurance will pay a dime if you haven’t met that astronomical deductible yet.
And our copays went from 20% out of pocket to 100%. So that first giant sum of money will be completely out of pocket before a dime gets paid.
Obamacare was never about improving health care in our nation. It has always been about that “penalty”. Where does the money from that penalty for not buying insurance go? That’s right. It’s an additional tax and the Democrats have more money to steal. Obamacare was always just a way for the Democrats to steal from the working man’s/woman’s benefits. They already steal part of your pay.
The trick with medications is the prescriptions are only good for a year. Necessitating another MD visit (with costly bloodwork and lab tests) to get a new prescription. So those $4/m prescriptions will be at least $1000 to renew once you count the MD visit and all the bloodwork and labs.
We already use the $4/m prescriptions when we can get them.
When will they figure out that if they dont pay the tax/fine there is nothing the IRS can do about it?
But if they get sick and aren’t on medicaid the hospital will send them to collections and ruin their credit.
Oh stop all this crying about Ocare.
To hell with the working middle class.
Laqueesha and her 14 babies get free inshoonce and helf care so thats all that matters.
Or how about the libtard woman whose health insurance was cancelled asking her husband “why don’t we try that free one?”
THERE IS NO ‘FREE ONE’
And those morons vote too...
Looting the assets of Americans is what this is all about.
Wait until these corrupt government control freaks figure out the young people, who are supposed to prop up this fraud, have no money for their scam.
They know the young people won’t participate.
They’re using this to gin up the single payer they worship.
“””I suppose ERs will still have to treat anyone who walks in but they will become a ZOO”””
The last time I went it looked like a Hernandez family reunion.
I had a broke back but I waited in line behind little Jose that had a sniffle. The parents didn’t want to go to the CVS and buy some Benadril. “No NO they give you free at hospital. You no pay nothing”
...and this is in rural North Carolina.
your math is off- the deductable is good ANY month, so you have to add that in beofre you pay one dime
And people are forgetting that 6 years of costs were offset by 10 years of taxes.
The first 4 years of Obamacare are come and gone, but taxes went into it.
Imagine the costs if they had implemented it immediately. Did NONE of these stupid libtards wonder why they took 4 years to implement it?
Thats what the sheep don’t understand. They think: “I have insurance, I can go to the Dr or hospital for free, my insurance will pay”. Ha, the bout to get a big slap in the face by reality.
I feel sorry for any republican voter who has to deal with this.
To those who voted democrat and those who didn’t vote... choke on it!
HAHAHAHHAA. yeah... their creditscore will go from 420 to 400.
Those FREE birth control pills will cost at LEAST $500 up front. For the OB visit complete with pap and breast exam + all the labwork involved in that.
But hey, AFTER you pay FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS out of pocket you’ll get $9 worth of pills for FREE!
For some of them who aren’t complete lusers, it will be the difference between getting that full time job or not getting any job at all. Most employers check credit scores now.
They’re screwed, the under 35’s, they just haven’t figure out just how badly they’re screwed. Yet.
Simvastatin (Zocor) at Walmart is $4 cash price, any dose. Get a prescription for a double dose if you can, say 80mg, then split and take half for twice as long. That's what I've done.
We may have to resort to trickery to make this work for us.
I’m just not comfortable with either of us going 2 years without any medical visit though.
This means I’ll have to choose, when it’s my turn to go to the doctor, whether I’ll see my internist or my OB. This means my ‘female’ exams will be every four years if I alternate those visits when it’s ‘my turn’.
Plenty of time for an abnormal pap or teeny lump in my breast to run rabid and be stage 4 by the time it’s caught.
I think their plan was for this to make you blame the insurance company and start demanding a public option/single payer. But the whole thing is spinning out of control far too quickly on them.
An old quote goes something like this;
“A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage.”
We seem to be in the transition between the last 2 stages.
“that free one?”
A democrat is someone who will trade Faith and Freedom for free stuff.
Yes, That is the risk, the risk of anyone uninsured even now.
Although with Obamacare they can sign up when sick during the yearly enrollment period.
There is an irony to that.
That many in the GOP who just want it repealed (without a replacement) argue that having lots of uninsured is no problem because the hospitals have to treat them per a 1980s law.
But in reality that is a very unstable situation.
If you’re not billing an insurance for the refills (say if you’re using a $4 plan), you could refill them early a bunch of times while they are active and build up a stash. There’s no restrictions on non-controlled substances for early refills up to the limit on the rx (some drs write refill x 12, others write refill x 1yr.) It should say right on his bottle either “5 refills by 3/1/14” or even better “refillable until 3/1/14.”
Have you done any research on concierge docs in your area? They’re becoming more common all the time. The guy near us charges $1800/yr for the family with unlimited visits.
Post #33 should be slapped up on billboards all over the country. Some in Spanish too.
Concierge docs sound fine but don’t do anything to cover major medical. And it our case it would be expense on TOP of the $900/m premiums we’re already paying. With a $12500 deductible and 100% copay.
We just don’t have an extra $150/m on top of all those expenses to pay for a concierge doctor. We’ll be having to save nearly $1000/m on top of all our other expenses just to meet our deductible if one of us gets really sick or injured.
Gotcha. That’s a huge amount of money you’re having to spend. Are there other ins companies in your area to call and get competing quotes? Although they’re all expensive now since this stupid law took effect. I hate what this thing is doing to regular people. We have no representation.
I am calculating the cost over the year.
It is more easy to conceptualize the reality for a zombie voter to see a $1,000 per month payment than hiding the payment as a deductable.
most workers do not have 6500 saved up to pay ANYTHING so this is the same as having no functional insurance.
The plan we’ve got going forward was the most affordable on a monthly basis. Provided we don’t actually USE it or anything. The one that had a deductible similar ($3000/yr) to our previous plan had monthly premiums of $1750/m. Yes, really. Neither of us is sick or has any pre-existing conditions at this time. I can’t imagine what these numbers are for someone whose had cancer or heart disease.
So, we’re hoping to essentially have zero medical claims in ‘14 and save that monthly nugget to have a lump sum going forward. Just in case. Supposedly, in ‘17 our deductible might be as high as $25000 and our premiums double what they are right now. Hopefully that rumor is just wrong.
Concierge docs are fine for the wealthy who can afford to pay the ‘incidental’ $50K out of pocket for a somewhat major medical event should they have one.
As I understand it, you must purchase at least the silver plan, to receive subsidies.
ERs won't treat or diagnose cancer when people show up with insidious-feeling lumps in their breasts, necks, or testicles.
Yep. And the template for that is Medicaid - the program the Liberals really want us all on.
As Medicaid is not really "free", but essentially a government loan, your medical debt will be carried right into death with you. If necessary, your assets must be sold by your heirs to pay off your debt to the government. That includes your house and property. They can even clawback assets given away from seven years back.
Sweet deal, eh? Even insurance companies can't do that! Now we are beginning to see why they need an additional 16,000 IRS agents to help "run" the program.
Of course, if you're "poor" and have no assets, you get off the hook.
It's just another way for government to eventually own everything.
Hey, this is even slicker than those onerous death taxes we used to hear so much about! But they were only pikers. They would only take 50% of assets over $1 million. Medicaid starts with 100% of the first dollar.
The third of the population that is paying for the other 2/3rds just might not show up.
a loophole that, if it really exists (unlikely, given this regime’s ruthless grab for money it probably already spent, and its plans to hire up to 16,000 new irs agents to enforce the “popular” obamacare) undoubtedly will be corrected by aotus
