Boehner Hires Top Tier Immigration Policy Aide (former McCain aide)

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) has hired Rebecca Tallent to work on immigration reform. She is currently the immigration policy director at the Bipartisan Policy Center.

"The Speaker remains hopeful that we can enact step-by-step, common-sense immigration reforms -- the kind of reforms the American people understand and support," said Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner. "Becky Tallent, a well-known expert in this field of public policy, is a great addition to our team and that effort."

According to her BPC bio, Tallent has worked as a policy aide on immigration and energy issues to Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). She has served as chief of staff for McCain's office and senior policy adviser to his 2008 presidential campaign.

The hire is likely to spark speculation about Boehner's plans with regard to immigration reform, which passed the Democratic-led Senate earlier this year but has stalled in the Republican-led House.

The GOP has always been set against our interests so technically its not a betrayal.

Last poll I saw ...immigration was about as popular as obomacare. Americans didn't want it.

Washington is out of control. It's gotten way too big. It's now blatantly working against the wishes of the American people. The politicians are setting themselves up to be kings.

Starve the beast! We can live without Washington's money, but Washington can't live without ours. Please, stop buying in protest.

All three of these listed on the wanted poster are among the worst ever to place an “R” after their name. All utter failures; but why is Lindsey Graham being left off the poster?

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Same in Tennessee with Alexander and Corker. We have some great congressmen but two pathetic very Liberal Republican U.S. senators.

Washington Times describes Tallent as a legalization advocate! Betrayal?

Of course.

What did you expect after all the Boehner diversions and evasions on Obamacare for the last three years?

The Tea Party handed Boehner the Speaker's gavel, and he promptly planted it up our rectums.

He's got to get this done and make sure Obamacare sticks, long enough anyway to kill off employer-paid healthcare. That's what the Business Roundtable / Chamber types pay him to do.

Cheap, wage-breaking labor at all pay grades, and the death of employer-paid health plans. That's what they're about, before all else.

I agree with you. I don't think there's anything wrong with breaking the employer/health care connection, but they want the labor market flooded so they can give ultra-low wages. One result will be they get to keep all the money formerly spent on employee healthcare rather than having to use it to attract/keep good workers.

They consider themselves our betters, not just in the economic sense, but in the “better version of the species” sense.

Employers were playing that game 160 years ago. Lewis Tappan (as in, stoves and ranges) once suggested bringing Chinese coolie labor in masses to the U.S. and sending all the black slaves "home" ...... imagine what the civil-rights movement would have been with Chinese rather than black marchers .... and the ChiCom government behind them!

The rationale was, Chinese were cheaper to keep on the job, even though they were "free".

Boehner and the E-Repubs are starting to worry me. The US Chamber of Commerce wants this even if it destroys the country, because they want cheap labor that we are forced to subsidize via Chinese debt, printed diluted money by the Fed, and food stamps, etc.

We need secure borders, mandatory e-verify, and felony charges of taxpayer larceny and prison for those who hire illegals.
