Rosstat, Russias state statistics service, just released a new population estimate. According to their data the countrys population now stands at 143,600,000, or about 250,000 higher than it was at the beginning of the year.
Though you often hear about Russias swiftly shrinking population, it is actually on track to record its fifth straight year of overall growth. While still off its post-Soviet peak, the population is now about the same size as it was in 2005.
