Back before a handful of other states adopted Constitutional Carry laws providing for permitless carrying of concealed firearms, the practice was called Vermont Carry, as the Green Mountain State stood alone throughout the 20th Century in not prohibiting it. Long known for lenient gun laws and low numbers of homicides, Vermont represented the perfect real-world test of economist John Lotts More Guns Less Crime thesis.
Which made it a threat to the gun-grabbers
Vermont had also enacted firearms preemption legislation, meaning laws were set by the state, prohibiting municipalities from establishing a patchwork quilt of conflicting ordinances that would make it practically impossible to lawfully possess a gun and comply with edicts across all jurisdictions. And so far, despite Vermont being a notoriously progressive state politically (Independent Senator Bernie Sanders openly identifies as a socialist), the 2-edged sword preemption can present has been blocked in the legislature: Several attempts at enacting gun control edicts in 2013 did not make it out of committee, and Governor Peter Shumlin even signed the Sportsmens Act, ensuring those bow hunting or dog training could also carry a handgun for self-protection provided they did not use it to harvest game.

Yes—I’ve considered Mr. Cordea to be the most reliable source for anything to do with the 2A.
How can such raving liberals/socialists in Vermont have Constitutional carry? I’ve never understood that bit of Cognitive dissonance.
Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target. Divide. Conquer. Choose a new target.
That worked pretty well for the Soviet Union, didn’t it?
Patriots were the first settlers in Vermont; -- and established Constitutional laws.
Then, liberals discovered Vermont's beauty and polluted the place with their foul presence...
Liberals are like invasive plants, they come in, mess up the place beyond repair and then go elsewhere to do the same thing. Polluting the place so that it looks just like the place that they left is just what they do. There are places even in the most recondite South (Austin Texas) that may never recover!
Yeah, it worked pretty well to destroy the Soviet Union. Just as the US leftists are now trying to destroy the USA. And they're succeeding.
Agreed. Bennington, VT and the People’s Republik of Austin are two of my favorite bad examples...
