Posted on 12/05/2013 1:30:04 PM PST by Star Traveler
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin today declared a State of Emergency for all 77 Oklahoma counties due to the winter storm impacting the state.
"The weather is bad and getting worse," said Fallin in a news release. "Emergency personnel are coordinating with state and local officials to ensure we are prepared and ready for whatever comes our way."
The declaration allows state agencies to make emergency purchases related to disaster relief and preparedness. It is also a first step toward seeking federal assistance should it be necessary.
Under the Executive Order, the state of emergency lasts for 30 days. Tulsa forecast calls for snow, sleet, single-digit lows.
Tulsa's winter weather is mostly expected tonight, with high chances of sleet and snow during the day today, then flurries and freezing drizzle possible Friday.

global warming is a hoax
there is no warming only cooling
the government has lied to us for 30 years screaming global warming for 30 years
the scientists have lied to us for 30 years, screaming global warming for 30 years
the news media have lied to us for 30 years, screaming global warming for 30 years
you freaking democrat voters do you see your media , your gov , your scientists have been lying to you for 30 years, you socialist morons
What? Did Fallin just move there from Florida or something? It’s never snowed in Ok. before?
However, the streets are icing up and with me driving to school to pick someone up, I was hoping no one would slide into me. I don’t have much trouble driving in this stuff, but you never know if someone else is going to smash into you, and it could be any of the four sides of the car. You really gotta be looking around you.
It’s this cold in Oklahoma
it’s bitterly cold most places
global warming? lol lol lol
democrat voters still believe their media masters over their freezing behinds. idiots
I blame all this on Snowden...
Nobody on MSM uses the term “global warming” any more.
It’s climate change.
Now any exciting weather event can be attributed to it.
Just north of you here at Lake of the Ozarks.
Roads are dry. No sleet or snow...yet.
Since I’ve been here, I’ve noticed that they do that in Oklahoma — declare a State of Emergency for just about everything. I just think it’s gotten to be a “standard procedure” now.
As the article states — it opens the door for Federal money — which is why I think they do it all the time.
Junk science. I wouldn't care except thanks to promotion by the Obama administration and the UN, this hoax is going to cost us dearly.
the U.S government funded 30 years of fake global warming research. your tax dollars at work.
this proves socialism/government can never work
they can call it climate change but I’ll keep reminding them they called it global warming for 30 years
Ummm ... on the other hand ... it’s the WINTER season — so I wouldn’t be using “winter” as a methodology to discount Global Warming proponents. It actually sounds kind of hokey and “contrived” to use winter weather as a reason against Global Warming. There are much much better arguments than “winter is here” ... LOL ...
they are still saying the Ice caps are melting which would cause the seas to rise. that means warming to melt the ice caps . that’s a lie from the news media . it’s not warming it’s cooling. it’s freezing everywhere and it’s not even winter yet.
the Sun says little Ice age coming. they can call it climate change all they want. we remember it’s global warming
“Its climate change.
Now any exciting weather event can be attributed to it.”
Right. And this guarantees a minimum of four ‘events’ per year they can propagandize.
funny it’s not WINTER.it’s still FAll so shouldn’t we have had some warming by now after 30 years of your global warming?
FYI Winter starts december 21.
it was in the 30’s here in New Orleans a month ago
try again and look up solar Cycle 25. the Sun says the Earth is cooling and will cool
You’re north of Springfield, Missouri, then?
In southern California it’s about 62 degrees, bright sunny, occasional cotton-ball clouds, mild sleepy breeze and visibility is nearly limitless...The view of the mountains is just fantastic...
That’s why NBC purchased the Weather Channel.
It’s a propaganda outlet disguised as an info channel.
They even have MSNBC news snippets weaved in.
I knew someone was going to bring that up ... LOL ... which is why I tried to “spread it out” using the phrase “winter season”. I call anything from the first freeze to the last freeze, the winter season, no matter if it’s in the Fall or Spring ... :-) ...
We’ve gotten about 2 inches of snow. I think it’s a little premature to declare a “state of emergency”.
These folks need to come to Minnesota and learn what winter is. We got 28 inches of snow in the last 48 hours, it's going to -15 tonight with a -35 wind chill, and we didn't even close the office.
That works well now, but I wouldn’t want to be there during the summer! Come to think of it - I don’t like being in Oklahoma during the summer, either. I’m basically an Oregon boy and like the climate west of the Cascades a whole lot better.
“In southern California its about 62 degrees, bright sunny, occasional cotton-ball clouds, mild sleepy breeze and visibility is nearly limitless...The view of the mountains is just fantastic...’
Wow. This must be one of those days your’e not having an earthquake, wildfire, flooding, monsoon, beach erosion, or tsunami. Enjoy!
I’ve noticed that the officials do that “ahead of time” just based on the projections. I’ve noticed this before and have seen it many times, since I’ve been in Oklahoma.
Quick, someone wake up the Weather Cannel. That station that once talked about weather and is now a nature channel.
Tell the Weather Channel they can name this storm.
I grew up in that part of the country that gets ice storms. They are really nasty. I much prefer the ice box and snow we have here today.
You sound angry.
I’ll take a peak in the freezer so I relate to what your going through.
I hated snow and cold and ice when I was a kid.
That’s why I live in Florida.................
I just got an email from my Daughter who teaches in Tulsa. Her husband phoned at 1:30 and told her to go home. She said she almost slid off the road twice.
Fortunately she made it home OK. along with their children.
I just noticed this in another article ...
“Pruitt said Oklahoma’s price-gouging law prohibits an increase of more than 10 percent in the price of most goods and services when a state of emergency has been declared.”
Interesting ... as I didn’t know this.
Every time I hear ‘Snowden’ I think of Target, not the other guy..............
For sure ... it is slick out there, as I just came back from picking someone up at school. It would have been better driving if four inches of snow had been dumped on us — instead of the sequence of rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow pellets and then snow ...
The roads r becoming very slick. It is mainly ice falling where I am at. Stay off the roads if you can. My dad just got in from North Dakota, said it was nice to be back where it’s warm.....LOL!!! (He meant temps. above 0). In all seriousness, for Oklahoma, it is freezing!!
I could never live in a blue state. We get ice storms here that cause power outages that can last for weeks. We also have floods, wildfires, tornadoes and earthquakes. But we also have a high percentage of patriots and that is why I choose to live in Oklahoma.
this is the coldest year I remember here
I thought we should have had some global warming by now after 30 years of global warming the scientists and news media have warned us about
you just help tyranny by ridiculing my arguments calling them out on this
Send some my way. Yesterday afternoon we hit 85, right now it's 35 with rain and getting colder. Tonight most of the roads will be glare ice.
I’ve always maintained that Oklahoma is one of the few states that believes in the environmentally sound method of snow/ice removal. We just wait until the sun melts it!
I’m just saying that there are much much better arguments against the idea of “Global Warming” than merely pointing out that we’re getting winter weather right now - which is what people actually expect to get at this time of the year.
I’ve made plenty of arguments against “Anthropogenic Global Warming” - but I never make arguments against “Global Warming” - and I have done so for years on this forum.
But I’ve NEVER made an argument against “Anthropogenic Global Warming” by saying, “We’re getting winter weather right now.”
25 miles east of Springfield,MO here. Had sleet and freezing rain around 11:30am then snow. About 2 inches so far. Snow coming down thick and steady.
Snow, sleet, freezing rain and cold temperatures has happened here in the UP of Michigan. Schools were open, grocery stores open and even banks, pharmacy open. Life goes on in spite of winter storms
Well ... they’re sending me out in this weather to get a few additional things at the store. Their justification for sending me out in this right now is — “You like driving in this stuff!” ... LOL ...
I do actually ... but “really now” ... :-) ...
I remember one time I was trying to get back to Oregon (lived there at the time) and a huge snow storm was hitting the upper Midwest. Well, they were getting ready to shut down everything there and I knew I had to get out of Wyoming (driving across the Interstate) before they shut down everything, and I would be stuck for days, then.
I could barely see on the Interstate, so I cracked the driver’s door open slightly, and drove right next to the dotted white line, as that was the only way I could see where the road was ... LOL ...
I finally did make it out of Wyoming, and just about am hour after that, the Interstate was shut down for a couple of days. I barely made it out ... :-) ...
No not angry, just funnin’ with ya.
Yes it’s cold here in Montana, but it goes with the pristine territory.
I was born and reared in the Florida Panhandle as had all my ancestors going back to the 1700s. It can get cold here but not the brutal cold of the far North.
I spent 5 years in Tidewater, Virginia and the weather there was not that much different from Florida.
I spent 5 years in Western, Kansas. I liked the state but it did sometimes get really cold there. “There was nothing between there and the North Pole but a barb wire fence.”
The locals in Kansas told me that 4wd did no good on ice. I assumed they knew what they were talking about since they were native to the area but I later found out they were totally wrong. Four wheel drive definitely helps on ice.
The Great Icepocalypse of 2013 has a nice alarmist ring to it.
Thats what husbands are for!...LOL!! Better tonight than tomorrow. Also, like your homepage.
