Campus Chaplain Defends Muslim Prayer Room At Christian University ( Texas )
The College Fix ^ | December 4, 2013 | Jennifer Kabbany

FORT WORTH – The chaplain at a Christian university in Texas on Tuesday defended the university’s decision to set aside a room on campus for Muslim students to pray, saying it was the Biblical thing do to.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Kenji Flowers, chaplain at Texas Wesleyan University and also an adjunct world religion professor there, said in an interview with The College Fix that recent controversy over the room – which is a little over 1-years-old - came as a surprise to him. Debate over the room flared after a campus news report about the room was published last month.

“Like most schools that are called Christian institutions, historically we were aligned with a particular faith tradition, but through the years that affiliation has diminished,” he said. “It’s a misnomer in some ways to even say it’s a Christian university.”

As for the controversy surrounding its Muslim prayer room – which some have suggested illustrates the Islamification of America, the kowtowing of Christians to Muslims, and serves as an insult to the Christian traditions of the university - Flowers dismissed those claims as “far-right paranoia and misinformation.”

...

Texas Wesleyan University, founded by the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1890, opened the prayer room in 2012 in the campus fitness center. The room was set aside at the behest of the school’s Saudi Students Club. Flowers said there has been an influx of students from Saudi Arabia in recent years at the school.

...

The Christian News Network also pointed out a few online comments under the student newspaper article, including one which stated: “I am disgusted by this submission to Islam. What’s next, a room for Rastafarians? How about Voodoo? Santa Ria? Devil worshippers? You are supposed to be a Methodist university. What is wrong with this school?”

I guess according to this "chaplain", Moses brought down the 10 Suggestions, not the 10 Commandments. Commandments was a misinterpretation.

Exodus20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

No, the university should not do this. It’s ok to tolerate Muslims attending a Christian university, it is not ok for a Christian university to even ~appear~ to accommodate Islam which is a false religion, and doesn’t give a true hope for redemption!~

Is the building a Chapel for all religions to have services? If so (as in the Military and most churches) it needs to be set aside for a reasonable and fair portion of usage for Moslem services just as it needs to be set aside for Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Hindu, etc services.
I was an alter boy back in the early 70's at a Chapel on Port Hueneme Sea Bee base in California. I seem to remember that our chapel was used by ALL the demonstrations.
That islam is a religion of some of the people on the bases sadly it only works out that it was "fair". In thirty years since then I have NEVER heard of ANY terrorist being spawned from that base!
So what does it hurt if the rules are the same at this chapel? It did not seem to be affecting any of the other members at Port Hueneme.
As I recall that we as Alter Boys got invited to the Christmas parties of the other faiths and that was more than fair to me.

The chaplain may not know / care that in Saudi Arabia a person can be jailed for teaching about Christ or Buddha or ...

in trade for money ?

Really? They “altered” young boys into girls back then? I don’t remember any such operations being done on children. Or I suppose you must have been a girl “altered” into a boy as most places didn’t have female servers then. [Yes, damn it. Spelling DOES matter. It keeps people from laughing, for one thing.]

I certainly wouldn’t want a bunch of muslims to foul my chapel.

I don't see this as a real issue, to accommodate the muslim students , it's not the Biblical thing to do... it's the decent thing to do...

As long it's a room...and not the chapel, since once a filthy muzzie prays in a "church" those grounds can be claimed as a "mosque"

Islam is the only religion that specifically is "anti-Christian" (of an anti-Christ deceiver). The religious text of Islam acknowledges the existence of Jesus and treats Him as a "prophet" but denies His divinity, His death by crucifixion, and His resurrection. It leads the flock astray with the rantings of a dead conquering warlord.

What are muslims doing at a Christian College?

Same reason Sandra Fluke sought out a Catholic school to subvert the rules on birth control.

Large influx of students from Saudi Arabia. Seems like a far and remote place to be going to school.

Mecca is a segregated Islamic supremacist city with a death penalty for any lowly kufir who’d dare enter.

So much for tolerance, diversity, and co-existence.

How many muslims speak out against that death penalty? And that’s just the moderate silence you are hearing.

Sorry if I inadvertently typed in my post words that obviously touched something deep in your past that badly affected you.
Was that a hospital accident at birth or later on by choice? For whatever it was I am so sorry for you... it must be hell to go though life like that.. unless of course it was by choice. In which case I am sorry for that too.

So, no I was not altered to a female, and I assure you that I enjoy memories of dozens of females who can attest that I was not an "altered boy" in the way you mean. Or the way you fantasize I might have been. Sorry to ruin your dreams, I am not part of your club. Luckily I have great memories of an unaltered youth as a normal male. Sorry you missed yours.

What I meant to say, if I didn't, was that I was an alter boy at a catholic church on Port Huneme in California. It was a normal part of growing up as a catholic boy and I enjoyed that stage of my life.

Again my condolences that you were unable to enjoy that experience as a male catholic boy. I am sure your are fine however you are be it male or female.

So after I typed my reply thinking you were a male I was replying to, I looked at your profile and saw we enjoy many of the same things. Oh that I did not know you when I was at a earlier station of life was obviously one of those things I did missed out on. We probably would have been great friends.
My first crush was on this black (African American?) girl in kinder garden in San Diego and my Mom chuckled when I brought home her home for a play date(?). So did her mom! But she liked my clay brontosaurus I made in class and was soo pretty! :-)

And to what I said, and it must have been great for you growing up in Gods assigned role for you! Hope his selection for you was as good as it was for me. I loved growing up, (never) and learning all there was at each step.
I have a great daughter who is now in her 30's and is just leaving the Navy where she is/was a Naval Reserve officer (combat aegis and weapons). She got in to NROTC program and now has a masters and finishing up her second and on the way to a doctorate. (Psycology) Back in High School she was selected by a history teacher there as the most conservative (politically) student in the school.
Sorry I drag on to much and got in to history of me. If you want we can chat more some other time. Freep mail me if you want.
Anyway seeing your profile did bring a new perspective at your post to me. Your humor seems as dry as mine and I appreciate from that perspective reading your post again.
*JAS

Oh, and did I really say that I was an "altered boy"? Although I did not read it but can believe I may have messed up the posting as I was tired and it was late.

Again I assure you I am not. Have a great Christmas season and Christmas day!
