An unarmed, emotionally disturbed man shot at by the police as he was lurching around traffic near Times Square in September has been charged with assault, on the theory that he was responsible for bullet wounds suffered by two bystanders, according to an indictment unsealed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Wednesday.

Sounds like poor decision making by the police.
They’re also going to charge him for the cost of the bullets...
Only in Noo Yawk City. Sickening. You are in as much danger from the police there as you are from the criminals. And of course, the right to keep and bear arms is maximally infringed.
The cops should be charged with assault. Typical overapplication of force by idiot cops.
Not much different than charging the get away driver for the injury or deaths of others during a bank robbery.
Still, one would wish that the police officers would spend more time on the range.

Uh, it’s the responsibility of the poorly-trained police because they don’t know how to shoot.
The cops should spend more time at the range instead of marching in “pride” parades.

Or if a SWAT team raids the wrong house and kills someone, the perp at the correct address gets charged with murder.
Cops make it so they are blameless for anything that happens during the execution of their “duties”.
