It can be a little different than hopelessness.

Take a few generations of being on the government dole, sprinkle in resentment for the slave era, stir in race-baiters like Sharpton, and you’ve got a mix that tells young black people that they are SUCKERS for trying.

Not only that, if they go to a college that isn’t all black, or work for a white guy, they are Uncle Tom’s.

It becomes a lifestyle - in their mind, it isn’t laziness that keeps them from trying...they are ‘getting back’ at people for the slave era. Their ancestors worked as slaves, so now they get to take a time out, and let white people work for them. This is why there is no shame in not only taking welfare benefits, but also stealing them through fraud.

A lot of things have changed. There was a time when there was no such thing as "black culture".

George Washington Carver and his contemporaries didn't seek to be separate. They dressed and spoke as any white American did at the time because all they wanted was to be fully included and they worked their butts off for it. Not to mention they faced real open racism from the democrats who hated them.
