An 85-year-old U.S. tourist detained in North Korea for more than a month for alleged hostile acts is on his way home after being "deported" to China.
North Korean state media said Saturday that Merrill Newman, a war veteran, was released because he had apologized for his alleged crimes during the Korean War and because of his age and medical condition.
"I'm very glad to be on my way home," Newman told Japanese media at Beijing airport. "I feel good, I feel good. I want to go home to see my wife."
Newman was met by U.S. embassy staff in Beijing. He is currently on a United Airlines flight flying over the Pacific and is expected to land in San Francisco at 11:59 a.m. ET, KTVU.com reported.

To see if any of the infiltrators he trained were still around.
thanks
bttt
I looked it up too.
It appears the group he was with were UN clandestine special forces groups that operated during the Korean War.
Considering the classified nature, this guy got what he deserved for even mentioning it.
After reading his bio, and that a former New Mexico governor, a lefty Dem, helped in his release, I figure the guy must be some dimwit libtard, proven beyond a reasonable doubt when he opened his mouth to a communist state about secret war units.

If that's the case he probably had no qualms in reading a false confession (if it was indeed false).
I wonder what was promised behind the scenes by this WH to the NK for his release?
We should have traded Joe Biden for the WWII vet.
OOPS. Korean War vet
lol....no way they would take him!
We could have at least offered.
good question
How much champagne, fur coats and cars did we promise to get this no brain geezer back?
involved in killings of service personnel
Isn’t that what you do in a war?
All I know is I would have hopped on Biden’s plane and had a glass of wine and took a nap.:)
Ont thing he gave them for sure was a major propaganda victory that they will crow about.
that is true
I was going with the dopey libtard part from the gitgo. When was the last time you heard of a Vet from any war getting mouthy in his old age about how cool his secret part of the war was? Shooting ones mouth off in a country you once waged undercover war in indicates severe/ extreme detachment from reality. And this case we are technically still at war, only a cease fire. I always understand wanting to visit a spot where you lost good friends but mouth-shooting about it? no way-——Semper Fi
