Elian Gonzalez makes first trip outside Cuba since return from Miami

Elian Gonzalez, the focus of a bitter international custody dispute after he was rescued at sea as a child, left Cuba on Friday for the first time since 2000, when the U.S. government returned him to the island.

Gonzalez, who also turned 20 on Friday, traveled to Quito, Ecuador, as part of a 200-member Cuban delegation to a weeklong youth conference there.

"Fidel Castro for me is like a father," Gonzalez said in the recent interview. "I don't profess to have any religion but if I did my God would be Fidel Castro. He is like a ship that knew to take his crew on the right path."

Now a military cadet studying industrial engineering, Gonzalez said he would have suffered had he stayed in the United States.

“I don’t profess to have any religion but if I did my God would be Fidel Castro.”

Wow. Oddly enough, I’m sure you could find some people here who would say the same thing about Barack Obama.

At least here, he would have gotten to enjoy freedom while it lasts for us.

but you can’t hide those angry dead eyes.

I had the same reaction to that photo. Just another angry hispanic. I imagine that his entire life has been spent being used as a political pawn. I doubt that was what his mother, who gave her life, would have wanted for him.

I just going to admit I know very little about types of guns, but would like to know more. What the heck kind of gun is that guard holding? It would certainly hold my attention. Looks like it loads from a cartridge stuck in the bottom. Once he starts shooting, could he stop quickly, or must that cartridge empty itself first? It would fire bullets, not pellets right? Is that a gun best suited for long distance shooting? If we had more affordable classes in community college around here, I would like to take such a class. The only training course I know of around here costs over $200.(Bullseye). Didn’t police used to offer the public free gun safety classes?

Just found this article in the Havana Times. It’s of course what we would expect from a Cuban propaganda newspaper. And as I said before — if Elian wouldn’t tow the party line, he would be in prison or dead, and I think he knows it only too well.

Wonder what Janet Reno is up to now, since her try at getting elected didn’t work out, I haven’t seen her make a public appearance in years. Saturday Night Live used to say after the White House, Janet spent most her time alone in her home office, drinking dark Bourbon and staring at the aquarium.

They all used to talk like that in Russia too. It doesn’t mean anything.

This is all I could find out about Janet Reno’s current life:

“On April 17, 2009, Reno was awarded the Justice Award by the American Judicature Society.[26] Eric Holder, Attorney General under the Obama Administration, presented Reno the award. Seth Andersen, Executive Vice President of AJS said the award recognizes “her commitment to improving our systems of justice and educating Americans about our great common enterprise – to ensure equality under the law.”[27] The award is the highest given by the AJS, and recognizes significant contributions toward improvements in the administration of justice within the United States.

In 2013, Reno voiced herself for the “Dark Knight Court” episode of The Simpsons.”

Thanks for the update. I don’t wish her ill, at least I no longer do. Sometimes one has to just let the past go. I couldn’t effect things anyway. She served as an example of what an Attorney General should not be doing. Holder now serves most proficiently in the same ominous capacity.
