Skip to comments.I WANT TEXAS TO SECEDE FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. THERE IS NO PROOF WE CAN'T DO IT.

I know many on this site will look at this and think it is one more crackpot talking nonsense.. That may not be entirely wrong, but I am not a crackpot, and my attitude is shared by too many intelligent folks that are entirely fed-up with the direction we are going..
Texas is suffering from our own success.. We are attracting the disaffected millions, from failed governments around the country, to our state because of our business friendly atmosphere, low taxation, low costs, great weather, and great opportunities..
All of that would be fine, if the newcomers would leave their failed liberal political views behind, which they obviously won't do.. There may not be much time before we are overrun with morons with enough numbers to risk the future.. Secession may be the only solution, if it is a solution at all..
I seek your comments..
” think it is one more crackpot talking nonsense”
You aren’t just any crockpot to us, Carlo. You are one of our favorite crackpots.
I think that was tried about 150 years ago... Didn’t turn out so well then...
It is not part of "The Federal Government".
If Texas leaves the union it will get another crackpot, ME!
I fear the shoe is close to fitting, however, how would I know if I’m already nuts?? jus sayin.. LOL
Sam Houston was right.
While I can't demonstrate it as a fact, I predict the possibility of Texas seceding from the Union in the next 50 years as somewhere south of "slim" and "none".
If you could get everyone in Texas to refuse to pay any more taxes to Washington, there’s a starting point. Starve the beast.
I hear you, but it has popped up at late as 2012 again, and I have looked everywhere to see concrete evidence that it cannot be done.. If anyone can point me to definitive evidence that is is not legal, I'll go take my nap.. LOL
Any state that seriously shows it is going to secede will get any and all support I can lend. If it is Texas, just tell me where I need to send money to help in the fight while I get my affairs in order to move there.
The whole country is going to hell in a hand-basket.
Semantics, I’m looking for proof.. Can you add anything?
I believe Texas can secede and if she decides to, I’m 100% behind her. This country has done gone crazy and the good people of Texas are sick of it.
Yeah, great weather. Can’t get to my car, couldn’t open it if I could (frozen shut) and couldn’t drive on the roads if I could get it started. LOL
OK Kip, another opinion, great, but what are the facts.. I’m serious!
Tell me about it. The liberal infestation in the Denver/Boulder area is ruining Colorado. There has been serious talk about splitting Colorado in two, with the liberals forming Calirado where they can (re)try all those wonderful liberal things that are destroying California.
I'm hoping that when his final term as Sheriff of El Paso County is up, Mr. Maketa will take a run at Governor...
You know, this kind of thing is proof that liberals are slow learners - if they can learn at all. It is awfully hard to drive any facts into their skulls past the feel-good indoctrination. They get power, their big-government socialist policies trash a place (city, county, state, or country) turning it into a miserable hellhole... Then they see someplace next door that is wonderful, prosperous, free (as in freedom)...so they go there because it is an attractive place to live and work. But then they start trying to change things, to "improve" things...and the cycle starts all over again. Pretty soon the place is a miserable, over-taxed over-regulated hellhole with high unemployment and high percentages of people dependent on handouts...
Do you think not doing it will prevent CWII?
I hear ya! :)
You must be in North Texas. So am I, and totally iced in. Got cabin fever.
I know my son in Dallas is getting crazy, he's stuck in the house.. Tomorrow we'll be in shorts again.. LOL
I would totally agree ... :-) ...
I would be glad to just split the country. Liberals have their states, taxes and laws, conservatives have their states, taxes and laws. Wonder which one will survive?
According to some law?
Was it "legal" for the colonies to "secede" from England?
When the time comes, we won't be looking for permission, cobber.
Believe me, if we could get several thousand to stop paying taxes, we would do it, and start the ball rolling.. It may be getting closer than we think.. Believe me you should talk to the folks around here..
We crackpots are always the last to find out. But ask a liberal.
There is the sticky wicket of many majors metro areas/population ctrs being infested with leftist control over govt and its apparatuses which act as a leverage multiplier, to borough a finance analogy, beyond their true numbers...that’s a huge impediment when you consider the deliverable resources they control and assets to deploy as they see fit.
When I was a kid learning Texas history in school, I remember being told that because of the terms under which Texas joined the union in the first place, it was the only state that could legally secede should it ever wish to do so.
But I would not be able to discuss it intelligently beyond what I learned in 6th grade. :)
But secession won’t do you any good if you wind up with the same nonsense you get from Washington. Free market constitutionalists are only a bare majority where they are a majority. If the schools are in the hands of socialists, you are guaranteed to lose that majority in a decade or two. Demographics are, in that case, destiny.
If the problem are liberals flocking to conservative Texas then how would secession help? If a seceeded Texas is a success and thee are plenty of jobs would not liberals flock there as well? No matter what — you always have to have the votes.
Are there any public officials seriously calling for secession? I doubt it.
Same here. We are watching old movies to kill the time. good news..... some of our icicles are beginning to melt.
As am I. It's a fact that modern talk of secession has been, up to now, essentially idle speculation. Neither the Democratic nor the Republican parties are about to push for it in any meaningful way. While there has been a recent "secession" movement in Colorado, it's a push to split Colorado into two states, not to secede from the Union.
And in any case, the Colorado movement is going nowhere, just as talk of Texas leaving the Union is just that...talk.
Me too. yuck.
I know, I was too busy that day to attend, but I heard about it.. LOL
Expect generals with a history of mental illness (like Sherman ) and severe alcoholism (like Grant) to bring bloodshed and misery on your civilians people.
Texas could secede. The Republic of Texas joined the United States as a sovereign nation via a treaty. All parties to a treaty have the right to nullify a treaty. There is a procedure that must be followed but Texas can legally nullify the treaty which binds it to the USA. Also the USA could nullify the treaty binding Texas and Texas would then be expelled from the union. Texas, via the same treaty, has the right to divide in 5 separate states and could then sent 10 senators to DC instead of just 2.
Texas has lots of options but as you point out, with the masses of northerners flooding Texas we will most likely be a blue state in the near future. Already the once solid red Harris county (Texas most populace county) has turned blue.
We need more of a 1776 than an 1861.
Just give me time to move to one first.
What you’re asking is like asking the question — “Can you give me PROOF of who is going to win the Presidential election?” This is a political question in which how every person votes and then acts - is what counts. There are no facts for that and it changes from day to day. You can do polls and surveys, but the final word always comes on Election Day.
Furthermore, if there was enough political support to begin to act on it - there’s not a very good likelihood of it succeeding because of the forces against doing such a thing. And these would be wide-ranging from all over, in other parts of the country.
SO ... there are no facts which absolutely guarantee how each human being is going to react to this until it comes down to a vote or some requested action on their part.
Part of that is because of the influx of Hurricane Katrina folks that got here and decided to stay.
When it gets right down to it, does it really matter if it’s legal or illegal?
The American Revolution was illegal. It was also necessary at the time.
True. That was then. This is now.
They would be illegal immigrates and we would deport them back to the USA.
Amen! We want a divorce.
Yep. Pretty much. We're no longer a red state/blue state country but rather red rural/blue urban country. Texas is turning purple and then following every other purple state, it's going to turn blue. And when Texas follows Colorado, Virginia, Florida and all the other former "battleground" states to blue, we'll never see Republicans control anything other than the House.
Of course, I should never say "never". Eventually the money is going to run out and the free ride is going to end. What happens after this waits to be seen but it's going to be interesting, that's for sure!
Refer to: Village of Appomattox Court House.
That’s actually a myth. Texas has the right to break up into five states but not secede.
Regardless, it doesn’t matter whether or not we have “the right.” As gunner said, when the time comes, we won’t be asking for permission.
“Yeah, great weather. Cant get to my car, couldnt open it if I could (frozen shut) and couldnt drive on the roads if I could get it started. LOL”
Saw Denton Tx on the news last night here on Long Island. Wondered if youse were still there and how you were doing? Looked very un-Texas like weatherwise.
