A United States 'Spring' Coming?
ABC News ^ | December 5, 2013 | Matthew Dowd

Posted on 12/08/2013 8:59:20 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Could an "Arab Spring" type of upheaval be brewing in the United States? Is the frustration and anger toward our dysfunctional politics and economics beginning to reach a tipping point where young folks begin to push for profound change? Has our democracy become so broken that citizens are going to find creative avenues to express their feelings? Will we pass through the holidays and winter of our dysfunction to arrive at a spring of change? I sense a movement of social unrest growing strongly and quietly towards our own version of the Arab Spring.

Let's take a look at some of the factors that might be pointing in this direction. This past week the GDP showed very positive growth (up 3.6 percent in the third quarter), corporations are booking huge profits, the stock market is at an all time high, and we have more multimillionaires and billionaires than ever before. So why does 70 percent of the country believe the United States is off on the wrong track? Why is trust of our economic, governmental and political institutions at a historic low? Why is the poverty rate back to a historical high?

For more than a generation, the middle class of this country has not seen any significant improvement in their financial situation. In fact, when you factor in inflation, the majority of the country has actually seen a decline in their economic status over the past 25 years...

He means from the Left (proletariat) of course. Notice the word he never used? Hint: It rhymes with Snow-bama-fair.

Whatever the reason, at some point I believe the status quo in our politics and economics will no longer be acceptable to a large part of our country, and because the existing institutions are unresponsive, these agents of change will rise up in some way and very loudly and clearly say "enough is enough." And I think this will be a very good thing if it is done in a forceful and non-violent way.

1a) Liberalism does not work. All the evidence is in, and the Left has failed. The existing institutions are unresponsive. The government will not help you -- the government only helps itself. When the people say "enough is enough" they will be rejecting the Left.

1b) I'm pretty sure this guy meant this as an attack on Conservatives and an explanation of why Conservatives have failed.

2) I have no idea what a "a forceful and non-violent way" would look like.

Let’s make it simple for ABC, the unrest is because we have had it with the federal government dictating how we must live our lives while the constitutionally elected government allows the unelected government to enslave us. We will not allow that. Clear ABC?

I think I said it best:

“A people unwilling to use extreme violent force to obtain or preserve their liberty deserves the tyrants that rule them.”

This means both parties, we are getting just what we deserve and they are not gonna just walk away from stealing our wealth and with it our liberty.

No significant improvement in their financial situation.
With Democrats in power for the last five years it’s expected.
Not one of Obama’s acts have helped they only fed the good old boy club.

Yes, he never used the word, but tried to cleverly (in his estimation) allude to it.
Recently polling shows these young Americans (along with other citizens) have gone from overwhelmingly supporting President Obama to now incredibly upset about another politician who said one thing and did another. And the economics and dreams of their own life has been set back once again. …
Problem is, the entire presidency of Obama has been about saying one thing and doing its opposite, apart from the promise with respect to the “fundamental transformation of” the country.

Yep. This time it's called the "TEA Party". The people are figuring out they're being used as nothing but tax slaves to keep the politicians living in absolute power and luxury.

The IRS interfered with the Tea Party, such as refusing to grant them non-profit status so they couldn’t organize effectively and handing off donor lists for conservative causes to liberals to harass.
There were suspicions of this two years ago, but now we know for a fact.
And the anger of those who tried to organize is greater, while the reasons to be multiply.

One of those things that makes you go, “huh?”

This was the most glaring evidence that we are not in control of an out of control government I have ever seen. Just IGNORED is all we got. IGNORED by everyone. The agenda is in place and will not be diverted by peaceful means.

An astonishingly naive piece from one of Dowd's political antecedents - this is, after all, the same fellow who helped run the Bush-Cheney campaign in '04. I don't believe he understands the nature of the Arab "Spring" - that would be the one that led to Sharia in Libya and threatened to do so in Egypt - if he conjures up similar conditions in the United States, at least at the present time.

Marx must be giggling in Hell - the middle class is not the wellspring of revolution, indeed, it is the biggest bulwark against it, which was why Marxists need it to be marginalized before it was wiped out. 0bama and his merry band have made considerable "progress" along that line in their insistence on redistribution of wealth, especially but not exclusively through 0bamacare. Dowd needn't look very far for that source of middle-class discontent, which is only now starting to bite. Misdirecting the passion away from the truly guilty is a media specialty of the moment. It isn't bankers and Wall Street who have just commandeered one-sixth of the nation's economy, it's the government, stupid!

The highly sensationalized shootings Dowd cites are a case in point with respect to this misdirection. Far from being canaries in his coal mine, they have had nothing to do with any sort of political discontent and everything to do with out-of-control, deeply disturbed mental patients. There's no Spring there.

There are, to be sure, certain very identifiable sources of discontent within young people: the government-controlled student loans market, the government-controlled mortgage arena, the government-controlled employment shortage, and now the government-controlled expropriation of health care. Notice the commonality?

If there is to be any sort of Spring, by which Dowd apparently means a mass movement in the streets, it is likely to be pointed at the above, and its name is Tea Party, and its likely direction will be to sweep establishment political types of both parties aside, and that means our Mr. Dowd.

The only mass shooting that struck me as a possible "canary in a coal mine" was Columbine. In that case, the perps seemed just a little too much like hundreds of thousands of other young people of their generation - cynical, arrogant, nihilist, contemptuous of other people, irreligious, post-modern, and seemingly sane. I actually can imagine an OWS-type movement filled with such people and initiating widespread violence and terrorism. A few months ago, for example, a crowd - a large crowd - of students at Western Washington University engaged in widespread vandalism when police tried to break up a noisy party filled with underage drinkers. If someone channeled that anger into political ends, we could have a new generation of brownshirts

I for one think we need some alternative for people in this country who have been ignored, misled, and forgotten about in the halls of power in DC and Wall Street to assert a new way and institute new leadership and structures that are responsive.

Oh hell no. We don't need NEW. We need to leash our politicians and government back to the Constitution. It is all this new chit that has caused us to go off the rails. I don't think we have anybody smart and moral enough nowadays to create what our founders did. I don't want some crazy socialist list of rules that will take our freedoms, I want more freedom and less nanny government. Follow and be restrained with what we have!

Hey, if these communists and community organizing Nazi’s can’t gode the patriot, conservative or any other sane american into physical action against the regime. Their attempts at false flags, election thefts, illegal executive orders, and other crimes against Americans can’t seem to ignite the blowback they so desperately want and need to bring about gun confiscation and the rounding up of the folks the communists truly fear.
So on to plan B. Occupy didnt work so well, so let’s see the ramping up of the useful idiots. Let’s have them smash, break, and destroy and then go after everyone, with particular emphasis on the gun owners.

This is nothing more than ABC News shilling for Hillary Clinton’s “Third Way” campaign for president.

The economic policies of both dems and republicans have failed so we need a news economic policy, a Third Way.

More than likely we’ll soon be hearing about the “new” economic theory created by Robert Reich when he was in college with the Clinton’s.

“New” as in government and business working together.

Hello 1930’s Germany.

From what I’ve read the Fed is going to keep pumping out money until January 2015 so that is probably when the crash will start.

Go back to 2006 and you will notice the economy started on the downturn right after the dems won the election.

I believe the dems will use that to their advantage and claim the repubs getting elected is why the economy went into the tank.

The repubs will blame Obamas policies.

Hillary will say both side economic policies are a failure and we need a Third Way.

“Why is the poverty rate back to a historical high?”

Because “poverty” has been defined upwards to absurdity.

The “poverty line” has been set to include some 87% of world incomes (PPP adjusted). When just 13% of people living are defined as “not poor”, it’s the definition that’s wrong.

“the Fed is going to keep pumping out money until January 2015 so that is probably when the crash will start.”

Pumping out money doesn’t create more value, it just confiscates value from others, causing inflation (i.e.: currency devaluation) in the process. When the imputed value significantly exceeds the confiscated value, paying contracted debts with money valued at far less than the contract intended, currency demand plummets.

It’s crash doesn’t happen when the QE pumping stops, it’s when enough people decide the currency is too unstable to use.
