Pickens Co. sheriff refuses to fly flag at half-staff for Mandela
Fox News Carolina ^ | 12/6/13 | Joseph Pereir

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) - An Upstate sheriff said in a Facebook post on Friday that he would not lower his flag for Nelson Mandela, even after an executive order from the president.

Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark said in the post that he refused to lower the flag to half-staff after the death of the former South African president, who died on Thursday. Clark continued to say in the Facebook post that it should be lowered at the United States embassy in South Africa.

Clark said in the post, "Nelson Mandela did great things for his country and was a brave man but he was not an AMERICAN!!!"

This comes after President Obama's executive order to have all American flags lowered in remembrance of Mandela.

Clark did say in the post that the department's flag would be at half-staff on Friday for an officer who died in the Lowlands, and it would also be lowered on Saturday for Pearl Harbor Day.

Here is the sheriff's full post:

I usually don't post political items, but today is different. I received this notification today, "As a mark of respect for the memory of Nelson Mandela, the President orders that the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff effective immediately until sunset, December 9, 2013"

Nelson Mandela did great things for his country and was a brave man but he was not an AMERICAN!!! The flag should be lowered at our Embassy in S. Africa, but not here. Our flag is at half staff today for a Deputy in the low country who died going to help his fellow Deputy. He deserves the honor. I have ordered that the flag here at my office back up after tomorrow's mourning of Pearl Harbor Day!

I'm impressed with this Sheriff and also with most freepers who are not falling for the news media worship of the genocidal communist Mandela.

I'm also impressed with Sarah Palin who has remained silent

here it says there is a stage 6 genocide in South Africa, mandela’s enduring legacy.

http://www.realnews24.com/genocide-watch-upgrades-south-africa-stage-6-preparation/

that is a genocide of whites in South Africa by a black government.

In South Africa many white women getting raped and tortured to death proof:

Damned right.

WTF was that “moment od silence” bullshit before the NFL games today?

What next, are we going to start celebrating the birth of Osama Bin Laden?

As I read it, the asshat may order the flag lowered to half staff on those premises under his or some government control Given that, mine is not going to half staff today, tomorrow, or next mellenium for Mendela. It flies to the left of my Gadsden flag each day.

I was happy that the Chiefs won today...but listening to the post game press conference, something funny happened.

Head Coach Andy Reid interjected some nonsense about Mandela...out of nowhere really, and he prefaced it with some statement to the effect that he hadn’t had the chance to comment on it before.

Some hidden force is keeping score on which leaders, even in the sports world, remained silent instead of slathering praise on Mandela. Its the Mt Everest of PC run amuck.

I was having lunch at one of those restaurants with a small direct TV next to me watching one of the pre NFL games when low and behold I am looking at a picture of Mandela and some commentary about him. I said in a booming voice, just what the hell does that guy have to do with the NFL today? Most in the restaurant looked happy but of course there were a few saps there who shot me visual daggars but said nothing.

I don't remember the President ordering all the flags to half-staff when that helicopter full of SEAL Team 6 and other Special Forces was shot down in Afghanistan?

Did I miss it?

"Nelson Mandela did great things for his country and was a brave man..."

It appears that the good sheriff along with the rest of the world has been made to forget who Nelson Mandela really was.

Our country is according one of its highest honors to a man who was nothing more than a Communist terrorist with the blood of countless innocents on his hands, and the only reason he didn’t succeed in turning South Africa into a “Killing Field” that would have rivaled Pol Pot’s, Mao Tse Tung’s and Stalin’s Killing Fields was that he was captured and imprisoned before he could complete his Communist Revolution.

The way our country’s leftist journalists and other assorted Democrats are rewriting history one would think there's no one left who remembers what Mandela was.

At this rate, Obama will lower our flag for Castro when he dies.

Stupid question, but has anyone in the “press” asked King Zero about this “discrepancy”? Why didn’t he order the flag half-staff for Thatcher?

Surprised Erkel Mugabe hasn’t ordered the flag to half staff because KFC’s out of chicken .....

His recent use of half staff includes some that are valid yet most that are agenda based IMO. Glad this Sheriff stood his ground.

Upon presidential proclamation, which has recently included: the interment of Frank Buckles,[24] the death of Senator Ted Kennedy,[25] the remembrance of the 9/11 attacks,[26] the death of Pope John Paul II,[27] the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster in 2003,[28] the victims of Hurricane Katrina,[29] the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami,[30] the deaths of Coretta Scott King[31] and Rosa Parks,[32] the Virginia Tech massacre,[33] the Fort Hood massacre,[34] the 2011 Tucson shooting, the funeral of Neil Armstrong,[35] the death of Libyan Ambassador Chris Stephens, the 2012 shooting in Aurora Colorado, the 2012 Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting, the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings,[36] the death of Nelson Mandela,[37], the 2013 Washington D.C Navy Yard shooting, and the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

My flag flew half staff for Pearl Harbor ..... It’s back to full staff and halyards are locked. security camera is on......

Stay safe D1 !

I hear ya Squantos. I’m with you on this one.

This guy is still a nine year old in an adult’s body. He’s play acting at being president, just like my brother and I used to play act at being a grocer and selling things to each other.

We grew up. He never has.

Hussein did not do so for Thatcher, someone he clearly did not respect. But did so for Mandela, his communist mentor and a man he has claimed to have studied. I think instead of asking him why he did not do so for Thatcher, someone should ask him why he did not do so for Thatcher but did so for Mandela. Make him explain why one deserved that respect while apparently, in his mind, the other did not.
