Skip to comments.New Affordable Care US health plans will exclude top hospitals

Americans who are buying insurance plans over online exchanges, under what is known as Obamacare, will have limited access to some of the nations leading hospitals, including two world-renowned cancer centres.
Amid a drive by insurers to limit costs, the majority of insurance plans being sold on the new healthcare exchanges in New York, Texas, and California, for example, will not offer patients access to Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan or MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, two top cancer centres, or Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, one of the top research and teaching hospitals in the country.
Experts say the move by insurers to limit consumers choices and steer them away from hospitals that are considered too expensive, or even inefficient, reflects the new competitive landscape in the insurance industry since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Barack Obamas 2010 healthcare law.

And Mayo Clinic, too, I’ve heard.
But, we FReepers knew this...and did our level best to warn others...three years ago.
Mayo’s adapting by entering into partnerships with smaller hospitals all over the world. They’ll provide access to their experts for a fee, the small hospitals get to make limited references to the Mayo name in their advertising. Whether DemoCare will reimburse for those services when ordered through a partner hospital remains to be seen.
Those hospitals are reserved for our masters.
Of course they are not going to let the “little” people go to places that are actually effective. That's just for your rulers, celebrities, and rich guys doncha know?
Ah. Yes. Steer the once haughtier masses to the infectionary neighborhood clinics when they may be assayed and normed by the ward bosses and community organizers?
let me guess, 1% of the bed space wont be available for ‘the common folks’
gee, never saw that coming
Never was about providing healthcare...it was about controlling access...namely ours.
“Well, how else did any one think they were going to make health care affordable? If people die at 50 they’ve saved around 30 years of expenses.”
BINGO! And most of the health expenses do occur after age 50, so just think all the money they will save.
I remember a Star Track episode where an “evolved culture” made everyone walk into a disintegrator at age 50. Obamacare won’t do it quite that way, you just won’t get proper medical care and die, saving the government money. That is the only way Obamacare will be “affordable”.
Perhaps the word they are looking for is "competent." Competence is often expensive. People who are competent usually became competent in order to make more money. Top medical centers have high quality, expensive staff.
I find it fascinating that many socialists don't seem to care at all about competence. They want free medical care for all, but they never want to discuss quality of care. "That's elitist!"
I also find it fascinating that the socialists seem to assume that doctors and others working in health care will be happy to be demoted to socialist perks. Did a single doctor go ever to medical school in order to to help Democrats be elected?
What's not to love?
I agree. Never was about our access to health care. It was also about access to our money for the government and the Insurance Companies.
The Ins. Companies will rue the day the went to bed with the DC mongrels, and it won’t be just a bad case of fleas either.
Are there enough masters to keep these hospitals in business? Will there be enough peeps NOT on the exchanges to?
“BINGO! And most of the health expenses do occur after age 50, so just think all the money they will save.”
This is business as usual in Great Britain.

“The Ins. Companies will rue the day the went to bed with the DC mongrels, and it wont be just a bad case of fleas either.”
You need to consider that it was done essentially at gunpoint - and, frankly, businesses generally don’t care that much about regulation and higher costs - but that it is fairly and equally distributed between them and their competitors. It’s all about the profit margin. What it “costs” is secondary, as long as the same number of people continue buying the product (even better if they HAVE to) - and, 3% profit on $200 is double the 3% profit on $100.
>> Affordable Care...
Yeah, so much news about the affordability...

Not really a surprise any more, is it?
The Insurance companies helped sink Hillary Care, but they got in bed with Obama on this one just like Chamberlain got in bed with Nazis.
Doesn't matter what extenuating circumstances there are, they will reap what has been sown.
Possibly that or worse.LOL
You nailed it Competence and Quality are two words that are not associated with Socialist economies.
A Yugo could only be built in a communist country.
I hope we don’t end up with Yugo style healthcare, but suspect we might.
We had to have MD Anderson Cancer Center for my husband twice. The first time was for a Melanoma on his arm and MD Anderson in Texas which was just 40 miles away in Houston, is the premier place for removing Melanomas and this was a large one. His company medical insurance paid for it but we were out personal money due to having to spend a few nights in the MD Anderson hotel connected to the hospital by an upper level walkway. It was expensive.
The first time we had to stay there, I thought I was in Saudi Arabia. We were almost the only ones dressed in American Clothes. The rest were in fancy Arabian type clothes with the draping fabric around them. That is where rich Arabs go for cancer treatment. We all got along well since cancer was why we were there. We all helped each other with loved ones in wheelchairs. Cancer is an equal opportunity disease whether you are American or Arab.
I think I would burn down the insurance company if they wouldn’t pay for that surgery. Several years later he had lymphoma and we went to an MD Anderson clinic no more than 10 miles away. By that time he was on Medicare and it paid the bill.
If they take away MD Anderson from Medicare, there will be Texans ready to burn down Medicare. This truly will be killing people, but this article isn’t concerned with Medicare, they are talking about anyone with insurance.
If insurance companies won’t pay for MD Anderson, then MD Anderson will fold and go under. That is unbelievable.
Congratulations, America. We now have our very own Nomenklatura.
They'll be eliminated in 5-10 years. Single payer is the goal
“Never was about our access to health care. It was also about access to our money for the government and the Insurance Companies.”
Access to the best medical care will become like access to an Ivy League education where the children of the elites are given most of the slots. There will be just enough common folk accepted to make the claim the institution is “open”.
Who can blame these facilities? The brainless leftists that wrote the law gave everyone a 90 day grace period for non-payment. They aren’t desperate enough for business to eat the costs of non-payment.
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
Translation: "It is sweet and fitting to die for your country."
I think I'll use it as a tagline
Yet Obama tells you the private insurance plans were somehow inadequate. What a lying scumbag.
So if you buy an off exchange policy you can get better doctors and hospitals. Who didn’t see that coming. I wonder if the Hollywood elites will forego Cedars Sinai hospital system? Nah!
The middle class has been demoted to one step above medicaid status... bad care high deductibles, and limited access to quality care.
Liberal elites will have concierge doctors - they'll pay an annual fee for the best doctors, hospitals and care... It'll be like an expensive private club. Liberal elites won't have to deal with pesky members of the middle class in the waiting rooms anymore. Their kids are safe too. And politicians? They'll have ‘pull’ to get in to the best doctors and hospitals too.
Thanks, Obama! University must destroy health plans to stay compliant
“The Affordable Care Act levels an excise tax on high-value health coverage plans, and UM would have to pay $48 million with its existing plans. Instead, the university is lowering the quality of its coverage. “
The Elite want to “Keep” their high quality health care......
The more this goes on, the more easier it is to believe Obamacare was just a grab for more power, with healthcare as the smokescreen.
Either that or dear leader is even more of a dope than I took him for.
Hey, Sarah Palin is a dimwitted bimbo who don't know nuttin' 'bout no "death panels"...
Someone please let me know if you hear about Scott and White and MD Anderson in Texas...
