SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Forget about setting up those kegs or buffet tables in the parking lot before this season's Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium. There will be no tailgating, according to the game's committee CEO, Al Kelly.
"You will be allowed to have food in your car and have drink in your car," Kelly said. "And provided you're in the boundaries of a single parking space, you'll be able to eat or drink right next to your car. However, you're not going to be able to take out a lounge chair, you're not going to be able to take out a grill, and you're not going to be able to take up more than one parking space. And it'll all be watched very carefully."

Well, la te da!
It’s time to man up, to show this CEO what he can do (you add the rest), and forget about buying any tickets to any games with this, ahem, ‘fellow’s’ team!
This outrage is just one more pussification of the game.
See? Don’t have any super bowls in the northeast in the future.
NE-ers don’t know how to throw a party.
Another reason to boycott the NFL . . . as if their stupid rule on see-through bags and slap-down of the 2nd amendment wasn’t enough.
I think they should just force these fans to follow their rules as they see fit. Perhaps they just keep the parking lots closed until 20 minutes before the game.
I would like to see that tactic. Might be fun.
Probably due to space constraints to accommodate the social justice ticket holder s. Fair shots, eat yo peas.
Parking could be like musical chairs
Forget it, then, dude. We’re not going.
This is a joke, right? Obama and his fun-hating Lefties haven’t been able to get their money-grabbing hands on the Super Bowl yet, have they?
Someone needs to let The Gov. know about this stupid rule.
NFL SUCKS, when they won’t even sell me a Richie Incognito #68 Jersey.
They do have available Jonathan Martin Jerseys, although only in pink.
The SUPER Bowl is in fricking New Jersey in February... not so much tail gating gonna be happening..
all that room and no smoker? great idea tho
No tailgating in New Jersey in February? What a darn shame. Pretty soon, they’ll ban snowboarding in Death Valley.
The awful officiating is truly hurting the game.
Ask me if I give a $hit?
I used to work security at Giants and Jets games. Usually once a year some fan would go into the stadium after he put his still hot (or burning) barbecue in his trunk or under his car. I do not have to tell you the sad ending to his vehicle and others around it.
Drunk fans are CRAZY.
NFL No Fun League
Why bother? Ever since the Eagles signed Vick I’ve been boycotting football, and have discovered that I now have much more time for things that really matter.
Never been to a Grren Bay Packer or Minnesota Viking game in the winter i take it?
Real die hard tailgaters could care less how cold it is outside before the game.
In Minn they get to warm up inside when the game starts, in Green Bay the tailgating just gets then ready for the cold seats.
I think he’s on his way out.
Tail-gating is huge here in Massachusetts.
The tailgating rule is irrelevant anyway because the overwhelming majority of Superbowl tickets go to corporate DBs and celeb TBs who have no idea how to throw a tailgate party without step-by-step instructions from MTV, Oprah, and Martha.
You can plainly see what you and 15 Cameras film and still see blatant errors by refs. Some are because the ref. is out of position and like all humans(?) sometimes say what they think they saw.
It is the same at an automobile accident. I do not condone a bad call as long as the refs talk things over and can make an honest judgement.
I’m still PIxxed at the ref. who threw the flag against “My” Hurricanes in the Ohio vs Miami 2004 Fiesta Bowl. It was for Pass interference and it gave the win to Ohio. In following days that ref. admitted he made a mistake in calling PI. No Flag the game was over, Double OT.
True, but the fact that he was signed at all is symptomatic of the way the organization thinks.
I can’t disagree with that.
It’s more of the “Corporationing” of the Game. The common man is priced out.
Here in Steeler Nation, it’s on its way out. They’ve “encouraged” (subsidized) a lot of development around Heinz Field, and slowly but surely, the parking spaces are being replaced with parking garages.
That’s a shame. I haven’t been to a Patriots tailgate since before Gillette stadium, but there are many, many fans who love the social interaction and tradition of tail-gating. With all the options available to football fans today, why deny them, when it cements their loyalty and keeps them coming to the stadium?
Yes, but don’t the rich tailgate more than the common man? That’s my experience anyway.
Did they build that from an old septic sucker? Or more likely a milk tanker. Looks nice.
I agree with your comments.
They had the SB here in Indy in 2012, and the weather was surprisingly mild.
Most folks who attend are high rollers, and either hang out IN the stadium or at the many bars and restaurants nearby, or at temporary facilities (aka heated tents) adjacent to the stadium.
Back in high school in Minnesota we always tailgated for the high school state hockey tournaments. I hope the lot for the Super Bowl is filled with pickup trucks with the back ends filled with grills, lawnchairs, coolers up on the roof, and a blow-up palm tree with sand ‘ala “The Middle” TV show.
No tailgating in New Jersey?
You got a problem with that?
I can imagine the BBQ happening before Patriot game must be huge, regar4dless of the weather.
Even back in the 80’s, Patriot fans were tail-gating. It’s a wonderful thing. It’s hard-core, and probably a lot like Packers and other northern team fans. The “snow bowl” was one of the greatest games in Patriot’s history.
Pretty nice tailgate you got goin’ there. Be a shame if anything wuz to happen to it.
Tail-gating? Is that another one of Clinton’s scandals?
Me an my tire iron is lookin’ at your kneecaps.
Wait till you get a load of how they plan to control traffic in and out. Only 13000 parking passes. No walking from distant lots. Only a specific number of shuttle stops. No drop offs. You have to pay $50 bucks for the shuttle too.
What are the odds that real tailgaters are going to be at the Super Bowl. Corp execs and politicians that won't lowbrow it in the parking lots!
Ever since the major football players went on strike in 1972, 3 months before the 12-day Christmas airwar called Operation Linebacker II, over North Vietnam, I have not supported, cared for, liked, watched, and always have since expressed vitriol, including if they ever went bankrupt - I’d throw a party.
The films of the game, ‘with that guy’s NFL voice’, were the highlight of a Sunday in the USO onbase, complete with coffee and donuts.
