SAINT CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WXYZ) - "Friendly, loveable, playful,” said Brittany Preston as she described her dog Lexie. “She was just my puppy."

Preston says she left her dog with her Grandpa at his home in Saint Clair Shores, went to work overnight, came home, and the dog was dead.

She says Grandpa has mild dementia and forgot he let the dog out. The dog started barking. Between the hours of 3:00 and 7:00 a.m. several neighbors sick of the noise called police.

I was, as a teenager... under the impression that St Clair Shores was a fairly upscale burb and find it rather odd that this sort of behavior has found its way there...

I would agree. I hang with a couple SCS retired cops so I'll asked them how they think about this event.......

“The dog was hit eight times”

An interesting detail. It ws reported that the dog was cowering agianst the house as they were shooting at it. Even if the cowardly donut munchers felt threatened at first, after how many shots did the dog retreat? Why continue to shoot it instead of stopping when the threat was over? Target practice?? Blood lust?? I’m sure some dept lawyer would say they had to put it out of its misery which is BS.

Federal agents also shot a man after complaints about excessive happiness.

He says they only shot when they felt the dog posed a danger to them – and kids out on their way to school.

Poor, poor little skeerd piggies. {I jus wanna go hom tnight, an that puppy pooch might jus bite me}

Hey, YO! SKEERED little PIGGIE! Dogs SKEER you that much? Go sell life insurance, yellow belly.

I did door to door insurance sales for Prudential for years. Ran into a LOAD of mutts that had an attitude. A swift boot to the chops had them up on the porch, not wanting to run with the big dogs ever again.

What in T H E N A M E O F H E L L is this pu$$i A$$ penchant for shooting dogs?

Hey, YO! Copper, BOY in BLUE, explain to me just WHY YOU NEED TO CAP THE DOG?

I think it just gives you a boner. You can SHOOT your GUNZ, kill something alive, and GET AWAY WITH IT.

I've stared down some of the worst of the worst. I rescued some big, bad, mean assed dogs from abusive houses. Me and the dogger, face to face. But then again, I'm not SKEERD of a dog!

Starting to get a real ATTITUDE about piggies that just NEED to cap dogs.

(Oh, but in Animal Farm, they did just that too!)

Any, and every, pig that caps a dog, for WHATEVER REASON, needs to be put on administrative leave and put through the "Psychological Evaluation" wringer, because, IMHO, as an old pig farmer from the backwash of PA, such a person doesn't have what it takes to deal with the public in general.

If you can't deal with a dog, how in hell can you deal with a human that has problems?

Just "Shoot Em?"

OTH, there are a lot of good cops out there, who take the time to call a rescue guy like me, when they stumble into a bad situation.

Its all a matter of perspective. A dog is a dog, a human is SUPPOSEDLY smarter than that dog. So why does one need to go all nuclear on a dumb animal who is probably confused and frightened? Hey piggies, dog smarter than you?

Maybe that's why the "shoot first, ask questions later" mentality has taken control.

I'll stop now, my heart goes out to the doggers.

They are truly innocents, they did nothing wrong in the eyes of God.

Something is terribly wrong with law enforcement in this country.

Not to comment on this incident, but animal control officers don’t do crap about barking dogs. Damn near no governmental authority or law enforcement does *anything* about incessant, non stop, permanent, never ending barking. It is apparently a God given right to let your effin yapper sit out 24 hours a day and bark.

It isn’t the dog that needs to be shot...uh..get it?

puppycide

It is simply amazing that in this neck of the woods, she could not find better overnight care for her dog than her grandfather with his apparent dementia.

That said there is nothing unusual about this shooting - visit the link above. It's an epidemic.

In my link to Puppycide there are stories where dogs are hit many more than 8 times, as I recall. I think the cops are really enjoying shooting the gun.

Dontcha just love neighbors? Can’t be bothered to throw on their slippers and nightgown and go next door to see why the dog was left outside all night. Easier to just call the cops and skip the human interaction.

Einstein said there are ten or more solutions to every problem but few people move past the first 2.

You would think neighbors would know the man living there was out of it.

anyway here is the other link I meant to post earlier so am posting it in this reply....thanks for not minding.

“It is simply amazing that in this neck of the woods, she could not find better overnight care for her dog than her grandfather with his apparent dementia.”

Blaming the victim? Who was watching the dog is irrelevant. Lots of middle aged folks have dogs that bark and ignore them for hours.

“Why can’t these problem dogs be tranquilized instead of shot dead?”

Tranquilizer guns require some knowledge and experience to use properly, while any goober can be trained to use a firearm. I wouldn’t trust a cop to dispense pharmaceuticals, especially not at high velocities.

I'm a courier. I've met hundreds of dogs while doing my job.
I've been 'charged' by Mastiffs, Great Danes, GSDs, 'pitbulls', packs of large dogs, etc.
and never, never, never have I felt the need to shoot the dog(s).
I am always armed with a...wait for it...dog biscuit.

I talk to them in a friendly, soothing manner, offer them my hand to smell
and take control of the encounter by getting them to sit for a treat.

I'm thinking, when something like this happens, folks should organize
and go en masse to the police station and bury the steps with dog biscuits.
If the trigger happy fools are capable of being shamed,
this might bring about a change in their behavior.

Why can’t these problem dogs be tranquilized instead of shot dead?

Why can’t they be tazed? Cops love to use their tazers on people, are we to believe that they are less effective on dogs? Or do the cops just enjoy shooting something they have very little chance of being sued over? And eight hits? I wonder how many magazines these sharpshooters went through.
