Eighteen current or former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials have been indicted in five separate criminal cases in connection with a wide-ranging investigation into allegations of abuse and misconduct inside L.A. County jails. The four grand jury indictments unsealed Monday and one criminal complaint allege that deputies beat jail inmates and visitors without justification, unjustly detained people and conspired to obstruct a federal investigation into misconduct at the Men's Central Jail. Sixteen of the defendants were arrested Monday and are expected to be arraigned this afternoon in federal court.

"...In addition, the indictment says, sheriff's officials confronted one of the lead FBI agents outside her home and falsely claimed that they were in the process of obtaining a warrant for her arrest..."

Totally out of control. But it's always just a "few" bad apples.

To be expected from men who voluntarily put them in jail 8 hours per day.

Throwing arresting an Austrian Consulate and these morons were just begging for it. The FEDs did the people of LA getting these morons out of the jail. They are a walking liability case. They are also way to stupid to trust with any authority.

"Flashlight therapy" in L.A. County jail was notorious in the 80's, nothing has changed.

If arrested in Los Angeles, don’t be concerned about the barrier in the car between you and the officer. It’s there for YOUR protection.

“I really hate to hear this about the Sheriffs.”

So tell us all why you “hate” to hear that indicted criminal elements in the LASD have been arrested? I am sure I am not the only one who would like to hear your answer.

I'm in neutral on this one, waiting to see what happens. The local latinos castrados y cobardes here in Phoenix are continually sic-ing the feds on Sheriff Joe and our Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, continually accusing the MCSO and the deputies of racism and racial profiling.

And some of the gringos liberales both judicial and nonjudicial, are falling for it. Including the lib-tard owner of the Phoenix Suns.

Because the Sheriffs in this country are not beholding to the same authority as the police. Yes, if guilty, fry em, but in many places, the Sheriffs have been on “our” side, at least against gun control.

“....but in many places, the Sheriffs have been on “our” side, at least against gun control.”

You are correct, in a lot of places. Unfortunately, in the populated parts of this country, with a few notable exceptions, the local sheriff’s are nothing more than political hacks ( like Baca in Los Angeles). There are 58 counties in California. In the counties with low populations, the sheriff’s will issue CCW permits for the asking, but just try to get one in San Diego, Los Angeles, or the Bay Area. Our sheriff is a turd! His predecessor was the same ( that worthless A$$hole was the one who allowed Stacy Dugard to stay with her captors for another three years because his officers did a pi$$ poor job of investigating a neighbors complaint). The County Sheriff should be our last best protection against the Federal and State Governments, but I will bet you that a small percentage of them rise to that expectation. We get what we vote for, and sadly that’s not much!

Many, many years ago I considered a career with LASD. Learning that I would spend at least two years working county straight out of the academy was all I needed to hear to scrap the Sheriff idea.
