Cruz Walks Out on Castro Speech at Memorial Service for Mandela
National Review Online ^ | 12/10/13 | Jim Geraghty

Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) walked out of the memorial service for Nelson Mandela when Cuban “president” Raúl Castro began speaking.

“Senator Cruz very much hopes that Castro learns the lessons of Nelson Mandela,” said Sean Rushton, Cruz’s communications director. “For decades, Castro has wrongly imprisoned and tortured countless innocents. Just as Mandela was released after 27 years in prison, Castro should finally release his political prisoners; he should hold free elections, and once and for all set the Cuban people free.”

Earlier in the day, President Obama shook hands with Castro.

People were doubting Cruz earlier for going to the funeral. He's the real deal, wake up people.

If he REALLY wants to prove a point he will walk out of the State of the Union Address.

Now THAT would be something to see.

Thank you, Sen. Cruz, for walking out of the speech instead of shaking hands with the murderer.

Cruz took flak for going to the funeral. I know Mandela was a communist and personally I was hoping all Republicans/conservatives would STFU in regards to making statements about him. But what is to be gained in speaking out against him when you know most of the sheeple and the MSM are worshipping him. Better just to pay respects instead of saying something that will just be taken out of context by the liberal media. Cruz did the right thing here.

OK, but Nelson Mandela was a buddy of Fidel Castro, and held him up as an example of how to set up a government. So why is Ted attending the funeral of a Castro-admirer and then complaining when a Castro speaks?

How does one take Mandela out of context?

Can you take necklacing out of context?

Can you take terrorism out of context?

Can you take attempting to overthrow the Nasionale Party government out of context?

Mandela was violent and was sent to prison for acts designed to destroy a government.

I suspect if Ted Cruz runs for president, half the conservatives here will refuse to vote because he’s not “conservative enough”.

Mandela once cheering, “‘Long live Comrade Fidel Castro!’” Mandela referred to Gaddafi as “‘my brother leader” and Arafat as “‘a comrade in arms.’”

And what is Mandela’s legacy to his native South Africa? It is the purpose of Mercer’s book to show that it is nothing to write home about. “Since he [Mandela] came to power in 1994, approximately 300,000 people have been murdered.” “Bit by barbaric bit,” she writes, “South Africa is being dismantled by official racial socialism, obscene levels of crime—organized and disorganized—AIDS, corruption, and an accreting kleptocracy.”

I like him a lot, but I am nervous that his wife is a managing director at Goldman Sachs (aka the evil empire of finance)

Maybe this was the reason he attended the funeral. Can’t blame him.

Ted Cruz showed great & good character by walking out when Raúl Castro was to speak.

Obama on the other hand shows his complete lack of character by shaking the murderer’s hand while giving him a semi bow down.

Someone who is more perfect than all of us took his message directly to the beast. If you were to use a reflex of thought rather than ridicule, you might figure it out.

The NYT was ragging on him for having the deluxe health bennies at Goldman rather than signing up for Obamacare.

Better that than a bonafide member of the communist party, I think. When you have no other choice, the right thing is in fact the lesser of two evils, because choosing nothing is through inaction a choice for the greater evil. I said that the last election, and was roundly disagreed with by those who thought inaction was the better choice. Are they happy now?
