Cruz Walks Out on Castro Speech at Memorial Service for Mandela
National Review Online ^ | 12/10/13 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 12/10/2013 6:28:07 PM PST by bigtoona

Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) walked out of the memorial service for Nelson Mandela when Cuban “president” Raúl Castro began speaking.

“Senator Cruz very much hopes that Castro learns the lessons of Nelson Mandela,” said Sean Rushton, Cruz’s communications director. “For decades, Castro has wrongly imprisoned and tortured countless innocents. Just as Mandela was released after 27 years in prison, Castro should finally release his political prisoners; he should hold free elections, and once and for all set the Cuban people free.”

Earlier in the day, President Obama shook hands with Castro.

Nobody has to speak out against him, they would never be given the time to make their case anyway. But there’s no good reason for any of them to give credence to the lie that is Mandela.

What this whole affair has shown me is that Republicans fear the truth as much as leftists despise it.

“Can you take attempting to overthrow the Nasionale Party government out of context?”

Attempting to overthrow the National Party government was a good thing.

Sorry. Nelson “michelin” mandela was a terrorist and a communist. Ted Cruz should have stayed home.

I’m getting a hunch that the “conservatives” who think he’s “not conservative enough” aren’t “conservatives” at all.

No, I’ll support him if he runs. But I certainly question his judgement of times. Attending the funeral of a terrorist would be one of those times.

Are you saying Ted Cruz is exempt from criticism or even questioning? Isn’t that how the GOP went wrong with Bush?

>> Oh my gosh! (Rewind to 1776...)

Relating the Founding Fathers to a necklacing communist doesn’t work.

I like him a lot, but I am nervous that his wife is a managing director at Goldman Sachs (aka the evil empire of finance)

I like "The Vampire Squid".

The only people obama looks down his nose at are the American people.

And the “selfie” pic made the headlines. Drudge should have had this with a flashing red light.

"trying to get conservatives to compromise their principles.

I know we don't live in a perfect world, I never pretended to believe that. But there is no perfect choice here. Not choosing is the same as making a choice, because of the lack of disagreement. You voted for Obama, face it.

I think your “hunch” is spot on. The ruling elite, GOPe, RINOs, and their operatives/poseurs are absolutely terrified of Ted Cruz. They’ll do whatever they can to spread Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) about him among conservatives.

I don’t think anybody on this thread who is questioning Ted Cruz is an agent for the ruling elite. We have the right to question Ted Cruz as we would anybody. And when it’s election time, then we can sit down and weigh the possibilities. But this “anybody who criticizes my man is working for the enemy” reminds me of the Ron Paul boosters.

"Relating the Founding Fathers to a necklacing communist doesn’t work."

Not my intent, FRiend. I don't believe in communism. I don't believe in harming innocents.

But sometimes overthrowing a government is the right thing to do. One must do whatever it takes. In the revolution we prided ourselves in tactics that were forbidden in formal European warfare.

Our Founding Fathers got the job done. I am in awe and forever grateful for their vision and dedication.

And I aim to make sure we pass it on.

Ted Cruz showed great & good character by walking out when Raúl Castro was to speak.

******

Huh? Cruz is a fool to even show up just so he could walk out.

That’s like me going to a Rap concert so I could hear profanity and then show my indignation by walking out.

Obamas and Bushs on AF One together....selfies....a Jr Senator of the TP showing up.....it’s all a game. Pfffttt!

Cruz made some conventional remarks about a world-celebrated figure. Yes, Mandela was who he was, but then even a communist can do things well. Tito kept Yugoslavia together.

Actually, it's people like you who remind us all of Ron Paul boosters.

You have another agenda, your outrage is feigned, your're simply full of it.

Cruz played it perfectly, went and paid respects, then showed the world that Bambi's handshake was bogus.

Perfect. Stop yer bellyachin......

You are not a public figure trying to advance your career, walking thru one mine-field after another. That he was even there to get the chance to walk out shows how far he has come in just a year. And he is on your side.
