Revelation: Colin Powell, George W. Bush's secretary of state, has confirmed the suspicion that derailed his plan to run for president: He's not just a liberal, but a socialist.
It's been a long time ago now, but Powell was once the dream Republican presidential candidate for a lot of pundits, campaign experts and ordinary Americans who appreciated his outstanding military service and pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps success story.
Now we find that Powell is with the extreme left of the Democratic Party on health care, supporting European-style single-payer socialized medicine.
"I don't see why we can't do what Europe is doing, what Canada is doing, what Korea is doing, what all these other places are doing," Powell said at a Prostate Cancer Survivors Celebration Breakfast in Washington state last week.
"I think universal health care is one of the things we should really be focused on, and I hope that will happen," Powell added.
"Whether it's ObamaCare, or son of ObamaCare, I don't care. As long as we get it done."
Twenty years ago, after his role in the successful Persian Gulf War as chairman of the Joint Chiefs, an Atlantic article titled "President Powell?" noted polling that found his favorability to be "an almost unheard-of 64%," with his unfavorable rating at a microscopic 6%.

Who’s dream.
Anyone who knows anything about Powell knows he is not now or ever been a Republican, he has always been a liberal.
He has been a kiss ass affirmative action promoted officer since Nam (maybe even before).
How he ever rose in Republican circles to the height that he did is strange. His wife, a stubborn Democrat, mostly kept to herself and out of sight and away from Republicans, but she had to wonder the same thing, with a snort and a chuckle. Of course, she wasn’t about to see him run for president as no-damn-Republican.
Powell was up to his ears in complicity for the attempted cover-up of the My Lai massacre, and should have been kicked out of the Army for it.
SOB butt-boy.
The Scooter Libby, Richard Armitage, Colin Powell thing showed that Powell has no honor. Period.

He carefully crafted his career with help from one or more people on high. I believe he’d have gone with any party that he thought he could get to the top with, he’s just a climber.
