LAWMAKERS RUSH TO CATCH UP ON GAY MARRIAGE
Associated Press ^ | December 12, 2013 | Josh Lederman

For years, American opinion on gay marriage has been shifting. Now lawmakers are in a mad dash to catch up.

In less than two weeks, seven senators--all from moderate or Republican-leaning states--announced their support, dropping one by one like dominos. Taken together, their proclamations reflected a profound change in the American political calculus: For the first time, elected officials from traditionally conservative states are starting to feel it's safer to back gay marriage than risk being the last to join the cause...

"They're reflecting what they're seeing in the polls--except the most extreme of the Republican base," former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, a Republican who supports gay marriage, said in an interview. "From a purely political perspective, if you want to be a leader of the future, you look at the next generation. They are overwhelmingly in favor of this."..

Among Republicans, whose party platform opposes gay marriage, the shift in position has mostly been limited to former lawmakers and prominent strategists. Still, a distinct change in tone was palpable this month when Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican whom presidential candidate Mitt Romney vetted last year as a potential running mate, declared his support, citing a personal conversion stemming from his son coming out to him as gay.

Rather than blast Portman for flouting party dogma or failing an ideological litmus test, Republican leaders shrugged, indicating that even if Republicans, as a party, aren't prepared back gay marriage, they won't hold it against those in their ranks who do...

"It's like immigration. The party realizes they are on the losing side of some of these issues," said former Rep. Jim Kolbe, an Arizona Republican...

59/41 opposed when we passed the turd burglar marriage ban here in Michigan.

I’ve got a militant lesbian cousin who spends her life harassing those who disagree with her. She goes to Christian schools and other institutions and applies for jobs for no other reason than to threaten to sue them.

A couple of years back she launched a jihad against a bank that wouldn’t let her and her girlfriend get a loan as a married couple. The bank would give them the loan jointly but not as a married couple. They walked away without taking the loan and then claimed the bank refused to give them one.

Now since they’re in Minnesota and are “married” they’re talking about moving to another state that doesn’t have gay marriage so they can start their pathetic victimism all over again.

Since 1988, it only voted once for a Republican presidential candidate (2004). It’s split 50/50 along congressional and senatorial lines. Same-sex marriage was forced upon it by the IA Supreme Court in 2009. But there hasn’t been any movement as far as I can see to amend the IA constitution to thwart the decision. And IA is known as the most liberal state in the farm belt, for what that’s worth.

Lot of federal subsidies go to Iowa.

Seems that when they get on their knees for government, they’ll get on their knees for a lot of things.

“And IA is known as the most liberal state in the farm belt, for what that’s worth.”, UHHH NO...look at Minneasota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Iowas just has a NATORIOUSLY(sp?) hard to amend State Constitution, THAT is why Caliporia and New Yawk “interests” choose Iowa as the place to make the sodomite “marriage” “Stand”.

I don’t care what gay do in the privacy of their home, but to given them rights such as the right to marry is ludicrous. It is against nature; I thought liberals told us to be in tune with what nature commands?

Good point. My lesbian cousin has made it clear that they now intend to move to a state that doesn’t permit gay marriage so they can take the depravity activism game on the road.

Iowa is close to where they are.

Crist is officially now a democrat, the party where he(and the others you mentioned) truly belong.

I've come to realize that the greatest threat to our liberty and way of life is a deep and widening spiritual crisis.

The people we send to represent us, both parties, are the worst people in the country. They are ugly people who have sold their souls for a fleeting ephemeral power.

God have mercy on the US.

“For years, American opinion on gay marriage has been shifting.”

Yes. Yes it has. And it has been shifting right into the direction of the ABYSS. I mean...let’s not allow ourselves to be kid in this. The energy BEHIND the ‘shift’, is solely due to psychological manipulation through political, and social persuasion/pressure. Those who are easy prey to this become those who ‘set-the-standards’ for everyone else. For those that are unaware, ‘polls’ LIE, and are PADDED to produce a specific result in order to further an agenda.

Gay marriage is nothing more than the devil making a mockery out of God’s creation, and PROOF that we cannot live independently from Him, and prosper. To glorify a thing that God warns us as an abomination, condemns thyself to the Wrath of HIM.

Isaiah 5
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

woe [woh]noun

1. grievous distress, affliction, or trouble.

2. an affliction.

3. an exclamation of grief, distress, or lamentation.

Synonyms
1. anguish, tribulation, trial, wretchedness, melancholy. See sorrow.

Antonyms
1. joy.

“Americans are now, have been and forever will be against gay marriage.”

If we continue to hold on to that statement in the face of all contrary evidence, we’ll never reverse the tide. We used to hold on to the statement that “Americans have never voted for gay marriage and never will.” It’s only true until it isn’t.

Hiding our heads in the sand doesn’t help. It will take hard work and a willingness to face unpleasant facts.

I think the younger gens are more accepting gays, thanks to public education, Hollywood, etc. So, I do think America will change.
