Paul Ryan Takes a Step Toward House Speakership
National Journal ^ | 12/12/13 | Tim Alberta

Paul Ryan's presidential prospects may have dimmed this week, but his future on Capitol Hill has never looked brighter.

The budget compromise he struck with Sen. Patty Murray, which passed the House on a lopsided 332-94 vote Thursday, had conservative activists and outside groups howling. That might one day curb Republican enthusiasm for Paul Ryan the presidential candidate.

But inside the dome, overwhelming support for Paul Ryan the policymaker—even from those voting against his proposal—armed him with a major legislative victory and a reputation as a bipartisan consensus-builder. That means bigger things may be on the horizon.

"Paul did astonishingly well. He was at a profound disadvantage in those negotiations, and I think he did amazingly well," said Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican who ultimately opposed the agreement.

Looks like he's the designated hitter for passing Amnesty, too.

Ryan would be a vast improvement over what we have to day.

My guess is that Boehner will try as hard as he can to pass amnesty, will take all the hits and then will retire next year to a quiet villa somewhere down in Mexico.

In fact, I don’t even think he should be in the House. He is deserving of his nickname because he is Patty Murray’s b****

He sold us out to the other side, and that’s referenced as him negotiating very well. I’m sure Harry Ried, Nancy Pelosi, and Barack Obama agree.

I sure hope he doesn’t get to negotiate Hawaii’s and Guam’s fate with China.

Yeah, he has better control over his tear ducts. Otherwise, same old same old.

I dont see Ryan as much of an improvement. Just rearrangement of deck chairs. We need a strong leader in that position. Neither Ryan nor Boehner have any balls.

Uh, right.

Then again a steaming pile of dog shit would be a vast improvement over Boehner.

Maybe we need to set our sights a bit higher? Say, bring back Newt Gingrich to be House Speaker? Seriously. No one has to be a member of Congress to be named Speaker, or have you forgotten that point?

Lightweight collectivist gang-member Murray eviscerated the wannabe-vp, rolled-over, budget clown. Paint some tears on your face clown. The House Lootership awaits you, budget guy. Check$ and Balance$ of plunderers.
