What do Pearl Harbor, the Munich Pact, and Germanys invasion of Poland have in common? The common thread running through these events is that western democracies military weakness tempted aggressors to strike. Add to this the fecklessness of western leaders, who did nothing when Hitler remilitarized the Rhineland, Germany annexed Austria, and Japan invaded China and murdered thousands of civilians, and one sees how toxic the witches brew was. If thats true, then why are we doing it again?
Most western democracies spend a pittance on their military, probably because they depend on the United States to defend them and most of their budgets go for welfare-state programs.
We saw one result of the western allies skimping on their military in NATOs performance during the Libyan crisis. [
] We also see Americas retreat from the Middle East in the recent surrender to Iranian mullahs long-term goal of achieving nuclear weaponry. [
] Americas response to Chinas expansionism has been minimal.

“Experience has taught us that preparedness deters aggression and that weakness invites it.”
Ronald Reagan, 1988
Noticed last night .. Hal Lindsey’s report had technical difficulties. Hal was discussing the middle east and iran, etc. Have to wonder if his signal was being jammed.
In looking at the wild cards (players) namely iran, pakistan, n. korea, china, russia, and the saudis while not mentioning a host of others ... the answer lays not in what I think but what do those mentioned think.
“If thats true, then why are we doing it again?”
Uh... because the president’s an ignorant *sshole, and congressional democrats are engaged in using all the money to buy votes from their corrupt constituents...?
Just to hazard a guess.
The active duty and veterans have just been screwed over by Congress and the White House.
When the next war comes (and it will), then the Washington DC class can go to hell. The have betrayed our military and veterans.
Thanks Olog-hai. It’s part of a long-term Demwit attitude:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why_England_Slept
Why England Slept is the published version of a thesis written by John F. Kennedy while in his senior year at Harvard College. Its title was an allusion to Winston Churchill’s 1938 book While England Slept, which also examined the buildup of German power. Published in 1940,[1] the book examines the failures of the British government to take steps to prevent World War II and is notable for its uncommon stance of not castigating the appeasement policy of the British government at the time, instead suggesting that an earlier confrontation between the United Kingdom and Nazi Germany could well have been more disastrous in the long run...
As ambassador to Britain, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. supported Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement during the late 1930s. John F. Kennedy lived with his father in Britain at that time and witnessed the Luftwaffe’s bombings of Britain first-hand.
I don’t know if American deterrence exists anymore in the minds of the average man. I suspect people think that certain events in the history books can’t happen today because modern people are just different. This is a great time for the Ambitious out there...
After Benghazi, Syria, the moonwalk away from Iraq and Afghanistan, the reduction of the Defense budget, and the feckless focus on the Pacific; what would any rational country do except move away from us.
Your answer is the closest to being right on this thread.
The President is an ignorant *sshole and those who ignore history are likely to see it repeated.
The Democrats vote for whatever the party tells them to vote for. There isn’t an individual in the whole crowd. It doesn’t take a brain to be a Democrat in Congress, they just have to be smart enough to raise their hand when Nancy or Harry tell them to.
“Uh... because the presidents an ignorant *sshole, and congressional democrats are engaged in using all the money to buy votes from their corrupt constituents...?
Just to hazard a guess.”

Correct and well said.
I thought we weren’t all supposed to be here at all in 2013 according to old Hal.
Didn’t know that. Will research.
