Pope Francis Responds to Rush Limbaugh: “Marxist Ideology Is Wrong”
The Gateway Pundit ^ | 12-15-2013 | Jim Hoft

In November Rush Limbaugh blasted Pope Francis for his anti-capitalist economic statements. Rush Limbaugh admitted being “befuddled” by the harsh words about “unfettered capitalism” released by Pope Francis.

“If it weren’t for capitalism I don’t know where the Catholic Church would be?” The Pope has gone beyond Catholicism here… This is just pure Marxism coming out of the mouth of the Pope.”

Today Pope Francis responded saying, “The Marxist ideology is wrong.” But, then he went on to attack free-market “trickle-down” economics.

Via Vatican Insider:

Some of the passages in the “Evangelii Gaudium” attracted the criticism of ultraconservatives in the USA. As a Pope, what does it feel like to be called a “Marxist”?

“The Marxist ideology is wrong. But I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people, so I don’t feel offended.”

The most striking part of the Exhortation was where it refers to an economy that “kills”…

“There is nothing in the Exhortation that cannot be found in the social Doctrine of the Church. I wasn’t speaking from a technical point of view, what I was trying to do was to give a picture of what is going on. The only specific quote I used was the one regarding the “trickle-down theories” which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and social inclusiveness in the world. The promise was that when the glass was full, it would overflow, benefitting the poor. But what happens instead, is that when the glass is full, it magically gets bigger nothing ever comes out for the poor. This was the only reference to a specific theory. I was not, I repeat, speaking from a technical point of view but according to the Church’s social doctrine. This does not mean being a Marxist.”

Someone needs to send the Pope a book on economics. Even Democratic President John F. Kennedy, a Catholic, understood that ‘a rising tide lifts all boats.’

It’s so simple. Wealth comes from God, not the state. You should treat your wealth as if it belongs to God. That should be the message from a great religious leader

Hi Jimsin; Well, Smallgrasshoppah that I am, I had to switch eyeglasses so I could read your large text (from Stonehenge?), but I agree, Rush is very influential on and off the Radio. I couldn’t do it. I also know Rush is only human like you and me, so I don’t feel bad pointing out when his vanity becomes obvious. No one (leastwise on the radio) is above being brake-checked every so often. When we remember our heroes are fallible we remember not to expect them to make everything just right with a wave of their hands.

With little respect .. I say the Pope doesn't know what he is talking about. All one has to do is look at facts ... which are stubborn things. I don't fault the Pope for not understanding economics since that is really not his job but he should really shut up about things that expose his ignorance and makes the Church look bad.

I wonder if the Pope agrees with Carney that immigration will bring up wages for poor people.

Yeah, but you gotta love ‘im anyway. The thing about Rush is that he does a 20 minute show in 3 hours.

You two have it, exactly. I listen to Rush most days, and enjoy the show, but, that is how it goes. If I hear him say one more time that "I don't like to talk about myself", I think I'm going to ...

Any suggestion the pope supports marxism is ignorance on parade. Marxism is militant athiesm. The head of the largest branch of the christian faith cannot support atheism.

“Collectivism by any stripe is wrong, Pope; even your version of it!”

But I would point out that “collectivism” defines most all religions. It’s their mother’s milk. I guess the Catholics, for the moment, have a Pope that is telling his people the truth about what their religion truly believes.

That’s extremely silly. What left-wing rag did you hear about this “runaway wealth” effect in? Ask some lottery winners and Hollywood stars about that one. There have been plenty who made millions and lost it all due to poor management. In a capitalist society, your class is what you make of it. New people become millionaires every day. You’re not stuck anywhere and there is no such thing as a “wealth effect” that puts you in a lower class. If anything, rich people help give poor people a chance at upward mobility by investing their money and making startup capital available to entrepreneurs.

Haven’t there been other comments by this Pope that he has not addressed later? If this Marxism comment was the only one, would Rush have gone off on it so harshly? /rhetorical

You are right. To be fair, though, they all seem (or at least the big names) go on and on about themselves, how they’ve suffered (Hannity) or how smart they are (Savage). Then there’s Laura Ingraham and her “cute” childrens’ anecdotes.
