NSA officials consider Edward Snowden amnesty in return for documents
The Guardian ^ | 15 December 2013 | Spencer Ackerman

Posted on 12/15/2013 6:15:48 PM PST by E. Pluribus Unum

National Security Agency officials are considering a controversial amnesty that would return Edward Snowden to the United States, in exchange for the extensive document trove the whistleblower took from the agency.

An amnesty, which does not have the support of the State Department, would represent a surprising denouement to an international drama that has lasted half a year. It is particularly unexpected from a surveillance agency that has spent months insisting that Snowden’s disclosures have caused vast damage to US national security.

A trick?? Would Obama be so devious?

Yes, he is evil.

But you notice they go after Snowden and avoid the little faggot who did the same thing.

Actually, I consider Snowden a bit of a hero here for disclosing just how much the NSA has been intruding upon our freedoms. I would think that they just might give him amnesty if he stops giving away our secrets.

Never go by what the Government says...

Sorry, but I feel that he has done our Country a service with his disclosures. These things would never have been known without him - and I do understand that it also hurts our intelligence gathering but it is worth it to let America know the extent of their surveillance.

Things have been going way overboard lately (Maybe with this Government group or maybe Government in general). Once it starts, it will rarely be scaled back. We need folks in Government that will take chances and tell us the truth.

Ridiculous.

Anyone from the NSA, FBI, CIA, Obama Administration, yadda, yadda who thinks that Snowden's going to turn over his one and only copy of all the documents he has is seriously effed in the head.

Anything Snowden had the Russians now have -- the cost of Putin allowing Snowden to remain there without being extradited.

Either that, or Snowden's got a copy of the entire document cache waiting somewhere to be released should the US Government take him into custody and imprison him.

That is, if he's smart.

Not as explosive as his brand new Mercedes will be...

Upon detonation, copies of those documents will magically re-appear at major media outlets throughout the United States for publication and airing.

He must have something big if they are serious. And of course, the “amnesty” would require him to never say a word about it, ever.

Also, they are retarded enough to think that by offering amnesty, the Russians will be forced to extradite him. After all, if all is forgiven,,,,.
But I think neither Snowden nor the Russians will be played quite so obtusely.

After reading the transcript of the 60 Minutes story on Drudge, I came away with the impression that they (NSA) are desperate. Snowden’s ability to clean them out, no matter how much they try to make him the bad guy, only shows what mickey-mouse security they had. We’ve seen this trend since the first Clinton, where normal WH security was considered old-fashioned. Well those chickens have come home...to roost.

A man who smuggled machine-guns to narcos specifically in order to generate grisly murder headlines.

A man guilty of uttering The Biggest Lie in US history publically over 50 times.

Could ANY PERSON trust him..?

The average person would say no, but there is NO WAY an ex NSA employee would do that.

This article is misleading. I heard the number 3 guy on 60 Minutes say that his personal view was that amnesty should be considered. The number 1 guy, GEN Alexander said that he was opposed to amnesty. It seems that the Guardian is leaping several tall buildings with a single bound to reach this conclusion.

I am grateful to the little traitor for telling me what my government was doing.

Still, I wonder how many people have died as a result of his revelations? How many now live in constant fear?

Would amnesty encourage Snowden copycats?

I don't care what happens to Snowden personally. I just want to minimize the net damage to the United States from release of classified documents, now and in the future. If amnesty does that, fine.

NSA does not need the docs back. Everybody who really wants to see them has surely seen them, recorded them, and taken what they regard as necessary actions and made indicated adjustments. NSA wants Snowden back for retribution. They might not put him on trial but they will deal with him some other way, maybe give him a nice new Porsche.

I have a feeling that it will be more like:

“2 weeks ago, Snowden returned to America and was happily reunited with his parents. He has since disappeared and the NSA have no knowledge of his whereabouts (though we’ll never report he has concrete sneakers and is somewhere in Lake Erie).”

They wouldn’t arrange an accident for Snowden. They’d simply arrest him at the airport, hold him incommunicado, and try him on espionage charges. They would get a secret ruling, from a secret court that overturned his amnesty deal. It would all be very nice and legal, and Roberts would kill his final appeal.

People make me laugh at how they underestimate our government.
We also don’t have double jeopardy. Just ask Sgt Koons and Officer Powell of Rodney kind fame. Ask Lance Armstrong how they responded to his post deal interview.

His entire document store would fit on a high capacity SD card...they are very small and very cheap.

Probably several such copies stashed here and there.

128GB SD cards at Newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007962%20600006245&IsNodeId=1&Description=sd&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20

Strange that such an enormous amount of materials can be held on a cheap 75 dollar flash memory card.

I remember my first really huge HD...it was a 1.7GB Maxtor...lol
