Was Rick Santorum Right About Polygamy After All?
The Daily Beast ^ | December 16, 2013 | Justin Miller

The Republican was once savaged for suggesting polygamy could become legal if the Supreme Court killed anti-sodomy laws. Now a judge has ruled against Utah’s anti-polygamy statute.

A decade ago, Rick Santorum said polygamy, among other things, would be allowed if bans on sodomy were struck down by the Supreme Court.

“Sometimes I hate it when what I predict comes true,” the once and likely future Republican presidential candidate tweeted Sunday after a federal judge decriminalized polygamy in Utah.

Judge Clark Waddoups ruled late Friday that parts of the state’s law are unconstitutional, based on a Supreme Court ruling that legalized sodomy across the nation.

In 2003, referring to the landmark gay rights case Lawrence v. Texas before the Supreme Court, Santorum told the Associated Press:

“If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery.”(continued)

“Still trying to figure out why anybody cares what Rick Santorums opinion on polygamy is. “

He was way ahead on this issue and was ridiculed for what he said.

Nobody cares about the messenger, but the message is correct in this case.

Ridiculed by American communists and sex perverts, but stating the obvious hardly rises to anything astounding.

This douchebag endorsed Arlen Specter.

I’m not against polygamy. Some of the people in the Bible had multiple wives. Myself, I can’t afford another wife, one is enough.

I have a feeling there will be a lot of men heading to the Philippines, Thailand, Ukraine and Russia the day after it’s legalized.

No, it’s not astounding, and yes, he remains a d-bag. I agree with this particular statement-how can I say otherwise when it’s the truth?-but that’s not an endorsement of Santorum. He just happens to be the one who said it in the thread to which I’m responding.

Satan knows that God exists and admits it. As a fundamentalist Christian, I hardly endorse Satan. But as to the existence of God, he is correct.

Let me add that it astounds me more that Satan admitted the existence of God, as he is the father of lies. But every knee must bow before God, even if it takes until judgement day.

Why would any sane woman want more than 1 husband? 2 husbands= twice the beer stains on the couch and when football season rolls around you’re a widow twice over!

“So almost 60% supposedly are fine with same-sex marriage, but 83% disapprove of polygamy? Huh?”

Do not look for any logic, reasoning or consistency there. It only means that the homosexualist propaganda machine has had much more time to brainwash the gullible public than the polygamists have. Which makes sense since polygamists are usually busy with working, their wives and their children and lack the free time that the homosexualists have to advance their agenda.

Are you saying I don’t have this right former Senator Santorum?

In other words, Utah polygamists can’t be discriminated against now, but they still can’t get married.”

No, they can’t have multiple marriage licenses. They will still cohabit as if married because in their minds they are.

Yeah, all those who have allowed themselves to be cowed by popular culture into ‘accepting’ homosexual marriage, are going to start feeling pretty stupid when polygamy gets pushed by the same folks.

Unlike homosexual marriage, which has never existed anywhere before, to my knowledge, polygamy has a long history and track record. It’s the more traditional of the two, so to speak.

wait until people start marrying animals or inanimate objects

Wait until the civil war erupts within PETA over this!

Plus, there are going to be a lot of John Kerry types marrying the poodle heiresses of rich old biddies who left their fortunes to "Fluffy".

Lawyers field day!

I was at a party organized by an Orthodox synagogue a few weeks ago. There were many more women than men, many in their thirties. I asked one of the rabbis if it is true that the Rabbi Gershom's ruling banning polygamy had expired recently. He explained that it actually expired 700 years ago. However, it was a moot point for two reasons. First, the law of the land is held to be supreme here. Second he asked "who would want to be blessed with two Jewish mother-in-laws". Seeing his wife nearby, he quickly added "and not everyone will be as fortunate as me here."
His wife, who was in ear shot the whole time chimes in. "I have such a good husband. He is trying to set up my baby sister. No one of you boys put down the drink and go talk to her." After glancing at her and seeing her dress, she then said "Finish your drink first and bring another. "
The younger girl was blessed with neither looks nor wit.
