5,000 US Profs Endorse 'Ethical' Boycott of Israeli Colleges
newsmax ^ | 12/16/13 | Cathy Burke

Posted on 12/16/2013 10:03:59 PM PST by Nachum

A group representing 5,000 U.S. professors has endorsed an academic boycott of Israeli colleges and universities.

The American Studies Association says it voted for the boycott "as an ethical stance."

"It represents a principle of solidarity with scholars and students deprived of their academic freedom and an aspiration to enlarge that freedom for all, including Palestinians," a Dec. 4 statement said.

According to The New York Times, which reported the boycott Monday, the action — the first time the group has called for an academic boycott of any nation's universities — makes the group the largest of its kind to back a movement aiming to isolate Israel because of its treatment of Palestinians.

The academic group said the boycott doesn't apply to "individual Israeli scholars engaged in ordinary forms of academic exchange," including conferences, lectures, and research.

It justified the boycott, saying it was "warranted given U.S. military and other support for Israel; Israel's violation of international law and U.N. resolutions; the documented impact of the Israeli occupation on Palestinian scholars and students"; and "the extent to which Israeli institutions of higher education are a party to state policies that violate human rights."

"There was an incredible swell of applause and enthusiasm for the speakers who supported the boycott," University of California-Riverside professor David Lloyd told Al Jazeera.

Is there an academic tradition among the Palestinians? What major academic institutions are in Gaza or the West Bank?

So I woulod like to boycott all members of the American Studies Association. If I could only know who they are. Perhaps we could get them to identify themselves....they could wear something...a red arm band perhaps....with some sort of symbol on it....

Here’s a statement on the ASA website from a self-hating Jew:

Eric Cheyfitz, Ernest I. White Professor of American Studies and Humane Letters, Cornell University

I am a Jew with a daughter and three grandchildren who are citizens of Israel. I am a scholar of American Indian and Indigenous studies, who has in published word and action opposed settler colonialism wherever it exists, including of course the Palestinian West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. It is worth noting in this respect that just as the myth of American exceptionalism seeks to erase the genocide and ongoing settler colonialism of Indigenous peoples here in the United States so the myth of Israeli exceptionalism seeks to erase Israeli colonialism in Palestine and claim original rights to Palestinian lands. It is from these personal and professional positions that I applaud the decision of the NC to support the Academic boycott of Israel, which I support, and urge ASA members to affirm that support with their votes.

Looking at a number of the statements from ASA members, many of them mention “anti-colonialism.” You can see how Obama’s anti-colonialist beliefs play into his hatred of Israel.

Let him get what he wants... good and hard.

Then both problems will be solved: idiotic, left-wing Jews in American academia will quit running their mouths, and the middle east will have the “peace” that American leftists so much desire.

In an earlier day, Cheyfitz would have turned in his family to the NAZIs and called it a peace overture to Herr Hitler.
I am certain Cheyfitz would cheerfully volunteer to scrape out the ovens at the turn of every work shift......for free.

Here’s what Angela Davis (yes, that Angela Davis), has to to say:

The similarities between historical Jim Crow practices and contemporary regimes of segregation in Occupied Palestine make this resolution an ethical imperative for the ASA. If we have learned the most important lesson promulgated by Dr. Martin Luther King—that justice is always indivisible—it should be clear that a mass movement in solidarity with Palestinian freedom is long overdue.

Then we could find out where they "teach" and run our own academic boycott of their colleges.

I'd love to see a list showing each college and the percentage of the faculty that are these people. I kinda can guess what some of them might be.

Notice that the vote was also held on a Saturday (Jews cant vote on a Sabbath) and probably was a special snap vote - timed for control of the outcome.

Exact the same tactics were used by the Ontario Federation of Labour in Canada, a few ago, to pass their version.

Less than 50% of the membership were aware of the proposition before the vote.

Contrived.

Does this extend to a boycott/divestment of Saudi institutions since they prohibit any non-Islamic theological studies and will seize/destroy privately owned texts?

Ex-Harvard president and former Treasury secretary Lawrence Summers slammed the boycott on the "Charlie Rose" show, saying the boycott singled out Israel and was "anti-Semitic in effect."

"My hope would be that responsible university leaders will become very reluctant to see their university's funds used to finance faculty membership and faculty travel to an association that is showing itself not to be a scholarly association but really more of a political tool," Summers said on the Dec. 10 program.

Well said by Larry Summers. Democrats with sanity might be an endangered species, but this shows they aren't quite extinct yet. But note that Summers is out of government now.

Perhaps it would be easier on the good folks at the ASA if we made those Israeli academics wear armbands with a Star of David on them.

Perhaps they could sew it on their coats, so that we’d know who to boycott.

Sick, freakin’ people.

I know EXACTLY how the holocaust happened.

You know, in the 1930’s, Germany was the most educated country on the planet?

This is the country that tried to exterminate a race.

Margaret Sanger, a German, described blacks and jews as weeds of the human race.

Then very simply, letters go out to their University’s job placement offices, and to major U.S. headhunters and Fortune 500 HR departments:

“We will not hire, nor will we do business with any company who hires a (insert University Name Here: _____________) graduate who studied under one of these MORONs, unless they PUBLICLY spoke out against the American Studies Association’s support for the extermination of the Jewish State of Israel.”

>>>>Margaret Sanger, a German, described blacks and jews as weeds of the human race.<<<<

Actually, Margaret Sanger was an American.

Racist Eugenics was favored by the American elites at that time. Hitler imported this idea from the U.S., along with Bernay's propaganda technique, GM and Colt weapons, and IBM machines to count the result.

After WWII, some 10,000 German Nazi war criminals settled in the U.S. establishing NSA, staffing NASA, and other agencies.

Massive data gathering on the entire population was attempted by NSDAP and perfected by NSA.

Hitler's Germany was defeated, not the Nazism. That's why this ASA initiative is dangerous.

We are living in a time when lies have pushed out facts in the halls of “higher” education. Tragic. Israel is the most humane society one can find on the fact of the globe. It’s military go to greater lengths than any on the globe to avoid civilian harm. And the jealous onlookers can’t stand their success in the areas of technology, arts, medicine, agriculture, literature, the arts. The green with jealously Left make themselves feel better by making up stories from whole cloth and putting up absurd votes in academic organizations. Stupid is as stupid does and these academics are narrower in mind and less interested in facts than any other group around. The man on the street has more common sense than “march in lock step” academics today. If Islam gets its way, the Leftist academics will find themselves in dire situations, wondering what happened. Their being useful idiots won’t help them a bit.
