They will need that protection now.

White African-Americans?

They weren't white, but then they weren't African nor American either.

Here in Knoxville, TN we have two indoor malls that were built about 20 years ago. None have been built since. Instead we have gone to very large outdoor commercial centers, like the Turkey Creek development, where the stores and other businesses are either free standing or connected side by side and the parking for each is pretty much in front of it. So far there’s been very little crime in that type of environment and the structure prevents gangs of youts from running about playing the knockout game. Most important of all, we have shall issue CCW and SYG.

But that might upset the NAAA (National Association for the Advancement of Anyone).

It's the same where I live, in upstate New York.

Almost no more big malls.

There are even a couple of existing enclosed malls that have converted into strip-mall configurations. They're cheaper (lower rents) and safer (lower insurance premiums for tenants).

There is one huge exception up here: a mega-mall called Destiny USA, built as the crowning achievement of a guy who built malls all over the country. He's in his 70s now, and reportedly has Alzheimer's. I'm wouldn't bet on his crowning achievement lasting very long after he's gone.

The beautiful suburban mall nearest the house I grew up in is on its last legs. The only reason it's still in business is the town has let it get away with not paying it's taxes for about the last five years. It's a big one, and about 50% of it's floor space is either (1) vacant, or (2) filled with "non-traditional tenants" (like youth centers, gymnastics schools, a boxing school, and a comedy club that is virtually empty night after night). I don't think the "non-traditional tenants" are paying anything like the rents that were expected when the mall was expanded in the late 1970s.

He had just helped his wife into the car and she was sitting in the front seat. This man was not going to hand over the car keys or run away, he acted defensively to protect his wife, not his car

They must have a description from the wife or other
witnesses because they know that the perps cased the
parking area prior. Maybe remote cam pix too.

That has happened in Jackson, MS. The “old” indoor mall Northpark is a hangout for many of Obama’s sons and daughters. The three new “malls” are outdoor venues. No places to hang out + strong suburban police presence = low thug factor; therefore safe shopping venue for people of all colors.

It sounds like you made the same Hillside Avenue mistake I once made. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

Yeah. It was a Midsummer Night’s bad dream.

IIRC, the exit dumped you out around 18th street, into a bunch of small streets. It was six or ten tense blocks until I hit a main drag—maybe Lyons Ave, if you know the area.

Nobody seemed to notice me, but I felt like a rabbit tiptoeing through a hound kennel.

Our old neighborhood, 16 yrs ago, we had a black lady move in that took in foster kids. One late afternoon I was leaving and about 12 young black men had blocked the street playing some kind of ball. I stopped and they all just looked at me and I realized they weren’t going to move. I gunned it and you should have seen them scatter.
Within the next couple of days our house went on the market and we sold it and moved.

It's a "given" that they will be beefing up mall security. (I expect they will be paying more security guards to open carry Glocks around the mall, particularly at this time of year. And they'll probably be installing better, higher definition security cameras and security software.)

http://www.nj.com/essex/index.ssf/2013/12/short_hills_mall_might_consider_security_upgrade_after_fatal_carjacking_manager_says.html

The mall is huge, and far enough away from Newark that this won't cause it to close. Millburn NJ had a homicide rate of about -0- before this. It's a bolt-of-lightning event that's unusual enough that it made the national news.

And unless the perps wore space suits, they left enough evidence behind in the car that they should be arrested, eventually. My guess is within the week.

Gov. Krispy Kreme is not a friend to gun owners. A pro gun Assemblyman who has know him for over 20 years and is a member of my gun club mentioned this to the members.

Remember this during his attempt to become our president as he will claim to be pro gun!

I’ll bet the gun was “illegal”. In Maricopa County we have 3000 Sheriff Posse members (not paid, volunteers). Sheriff Arpaio has them out protecting the Malls and Schools.

Maybe. I hope you're right.

My guess is they start hauling all that expensive marble out of there as soon as Cartier, Hermes, Tiffany, and Max Mara wave bye-bye.

The news story said there was a line for parking places at the mall last night, and that's right after the murder on Sunday. If a pattern of carjackings and murders at the mall developed, it might be different, but I don't think that will happen. Security changes at the mall will be made.

I've read a fair amount of what I think might be schadenfreude about this. Millburn had a recent murder rate of -0- and there were 12 vehicle thefts in 2010, the most recent year available.
