Hey. it’s always fun to write about good news on the Salem front. This just went out a few minutes ago, announcing that our flagship radio station in Washington DC will add Sean Hannity to its lineup:

CAMARILLO, CA–(Marketwired - December 17, 2013) - Salem Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:SALM), a leading U.S. radio broadcaster, Internet content provider, and magazine and book publisher targeting audiences interested in Christian and conservative opinion content, announced today that it is adding iconic talk radio super star show host Sean Hannity to its lineup at 1260 WWRC in Washington DC, effective January 1st, 2014. Hannity, who began his national broadcast the day before 9/11 on WMAL quickly, grew to become the fastest-growing syndicated talk rollout in history. Eventually Hannity reached the 500 station level, second only to Rush Limbaugh. Today, Hannity is the second most-listened-to radio talk show host in America with nearly 13 million weekly listeners and more than 500 affiliates. Hannity will air weekday afternoons live in the 3-6pm daypart.

“Sean Hannity is a perfect fit on 1260 WRC,” said Salem Operations VP and market manager David Ruleman. “He is poised, informed and intelligent like the rest of the Salem lineup. In a city where opinion often trumps knowledge and irrational talk reigns, Washington DC radio listeners have a choice,” said Ruleman: “Intelligent Talk. 1260 WRC.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Salem and 1260 WRC,” said Eric Stanger, VP of Operations for The Sean Hannity Show. “WRC is one of the premier news-talk destinations in Washington DC, and we couldn’t be happier to join their leading lineup of intelligent talkers.”

Hannity, who also hosts the nightly top rated TV program “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel, has frequently been one of the top talk radio hosts in the Washington DC market on WMAL. He is expected to bring a large portion of his audience over to 1260 WWRC, and will visit the market in the coming months to help promote the show. Details will be announced at a later date.

I don’t live in DC but have visited there; I think 1260 used to be an Air America type station and nr the ‘08 election 570 was nicknamed “McCain 570” and 1260 was “Obama 1260”.

WWRC site:
http://www.1260wrc.com/
Looks like on weekdays for now they have Lars Larson, Ransom Notes, Wall St journal Report, Liberty Nation, Bill Bennett, Michael Medved, Mike Gallagher, Andy Parks, Dennis Praeger etc

WTNT 730 changed to Spanish from conservative talk but word has it nr start of new year some shows will wind up on
Laurel MD’s WILC 900 AM

Yup and supposedly second in listenership to Rush, unless Beck or Savage overtook him...meanwhile libtalk (the non-NPR variety) goes off the air in LA, SF, and NYC...
Here in Boston he’s not on local radio though stations in nearby areas carry him. I know he has followers here incl a ping list.

a lib radio station here is dropping libtalk bigtime.. 960am.

going full blown conservative.. or as close as it can get without being firebombed or beat down by mobs of drug-addled libs. san francisco is home to some strange audiences.

amazing changes have been going on in the radio industry.. we need to hope that some decent minds step up to the mic and continue to break the back of the liebral movement that has been a scourge on this nation for far too long.

In December 2012 WWRC was granted an FCC construction permit to increase day power to 35,000 watts.

Still lightweight.

I tried to tune that station in and I couldn't get it.

Oh well. At least I won't have to listen to Tokyo Rove on his show anymore.

Can’t keep up with radio station changes.

Years ago 1260 AM was WWDC. And WRC was 980 AM.

I moved away from that area years ago, so not sure how the call letters got switched from one AM frequency to another like that.

Don’t know yet, judging by their site and Facebook account—maybe going to a later time slot. Can hear his show via http://www.michaelmedved.com/

Thanks. I generally enjoyed the variety of his show during the PM rush hour — Hannity is a little to harsh for me after a long day at work.

Yup. No mention of Hannity on the WMAL site now (and it says “Call in—undefined”). Cumulus owns WMAL and I think Michael Savage is going into the 3-6 slot on most stations nationally.

From all access:
Sean Hannity’s New D.C. Affiliate: 1260 WRC
December 17, 2013 at 10:08 AM (PT)

PREMIERE’s SEAN HANNITY show has found a new home in WASHINGTON at SALEM Talk WWRC-A (1260 WRC), starting JANUARY 1st. HANNITY’s show is being dropped by crosstown CUMULUS Talk WMAL-A-F as part of the corporate move that severed ties with the show in several markets.
Operations VP/Market Manager DAVID RULEMAN said that HANNITY “is a perfect fit on 1260 WRC. He is poised, informed and intelligent like the rest of the SALEM lineup.”
HANNITY’s VP of Operations ERIC STANGER added, “We are thrilled to partner with SALEM and 1260 WRC, WRC is one of the premier news-talk destinations in WASHINGTON, DC, and we couldn’t be happier to join their leading lineup of intelligent talkers.”

1260 used to be WWDC-AM. They played music back in the 1960s and 70s. This snip seems to be from about 1977 or so:

http://airchexx.com/2013/07/28/steve-wayne-for-lou-katz-on-1260-wwdc-washington/

The FM side, DC101, had Howard Stern and the The Greaseman, and did not simulcast the AM side’s programming like the FM side of WMAL does now.
