The Russians have long supported America's enemies. They get these dopes to do their dirty work for them. Meanwhile, they and the ChiComs patiently sit back and build up their military and wait for the right opportunity to make a move of their own.

I explained what we could do, and I explained why I thought we should be the ones to implement it.  I also provided the reasons why I thought it was important.

My post to you made it clear that I think we modify behavior by developing mutually beneficial goals.  What does throwing up our hands and giving up on better relations buy us, if not exactly what we're getting now?

Is it possible that some of our Putin butt-kissers on FR are FSB? Of course it is. I would even say, in a few cases, likely.

But I don't doubt that most of them are deluded by the "social conservatism" he's espousing, forgetting that the KGB completely co-opted the Orthodox Church in Russia, or that the Soviets made grand noises about "endorsing the noble principles of the Atlantic Charter 100%," the "free determination" for the peoples of Eastern Europe, democracy, economic equality, and of course "anti-imperialism."

NOTHING HAS CHANGED, except that Russia is weaker, and China is stronger than before.

Fred, I never said or implied the problems of the Cold War were the fault of the West.

I did not say that problems with Russia today were all the fault of the West.

I stated that we have not done as much as we could have to bring Russia in to the sphere of Western nations seeking to work together instead of against each other.

You're your own worst enemy on these thought lines. You're reading far more negativism into my post than are actually there.

It would be rather humorous, but the angst you're developing is unnecessary. Nowhere have I advocated us throwing caution to the wind to give Russia everything it wants. And yet this is what you're comprehending? Why?

Presumably you think I'm being paranoid. But there are 300,000 subscribers, and it costs nothing to sign up, post a few articles complimenting Comrade Putin, maybe dropping a note on a thread here and there. For very little effort, you never know what dividends it might later pay, eh, Tovarisch?
