Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's re-election bid remains one of the closest in the country, as he leads his presumed Democratic opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes, by just a single percentage point, according to a new poll.
The Republican Kentuckian has just a 31 percent job approval rating, marking him one of the most unpopular senators in the country, according to Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling, in a survey first reported by Politico and released Tuesday.
McConnell leads Grimes 43 percent to 42 percent, with 15 percent of Kentucky voters undecided. A similar poll in October had Grimes ahead by 2 percentage points. Grimes' favorability matches McConnell's at 31 percent, but about one-third of voters are unsure of whether they approve of her, giving her potential room to grow. But most people have already formed their opinion of McConnell, with 61 percent disapproving and just 8 percent unsure.
McConnell's underfunded Republican primary opponent, Matt Bevin, would do similarly well against Grimes, according to the poll. That suggests McConnell is receiving base-level support that is to say, people who would never vote for Grimes but little more. Despite the fact that 64 percent of those surveyed had not formed an opinion of Bevin, he matches McConnell's general election support.
The poll did not ask Republicans who they preferred in the primary contest between the two men, but previous surveys have shown McConnell winning handily.
The poll surveyed 1,509 Kentucky voters between Dec. 12-15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent.
His conservative primary challenger, Matt Bevin, needs some financial love. https://mattbevin.com/
He's hemorrhaging votes if that is correct.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving RINO traitor.
more money on the way. mcconell needs to go.
It'd make a good example for the others.
Mitch showed us that he hate Conservatives. Time to put him out to pasture and let him dream his fantasies about punching TEA Partiers in the nose
I’m not quite at the point of preferring that McConnell’s Democrat rival win, but I sure hope this useless hack gets primaried.
As far as Bohner goes I would cheerfully vote for his Democrat opponent if that’s what it took to get rid of him.
your position is rational.
a weak dem is vastly to be preferred over the power mad, GOPe puppet boehner (assuming the speakership can be kept away from pelosi, which is very likely even if boehner and cantor go).
This far out, and in running against a member of the party that gave us Obamacare, he is only holding on by the merest of margins?
Time to be testing the probable outcome of the general election by pairing up the appeal of Matt Bevin against the hack Democrat, Alison Lundergan Grimes.
We have had way too much of the “Stockholm Syndrome” exhibited by the Republican leadership held hostage by the Democrats.
Unseating Mitch would send shock waves through the GOPe.
The GOP wants our votes and our money, but not our principles.
Nice of you to look at their bright side.
I tend to see most of them as hacks running to the right at re-election time. (Juan and that hackers' hack Hatch come immediately to mind.)
Here’s hoping we can unseat McCommie.
Perfect.
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving RINO traitor.
yes it could.
Bonehead. (the speaker, not calling you names ;) ) but hopefully it’ll happen to BOTH of them :)
but not our principles.
They will temporary adopt them till November.
Well, I’ll give you that! But I was more thinking about Senators....my bad.
“We have had way too much of the Stockholm Syndrome
And a prime example of this is Paul Ryan’s shameful budget deal with Patty Murray. When Patty Murray can outsmart you, you have no business being in Congress.
