U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz win award in East Texas

U.S. Representative Louie Gohmert and U.S. Senator Ted Cruz made a joint appearance at a sold out event in East Texas tonight where they were recognized by the conservative group Grassroots America, We the People.

It was a packed house at the Harvey Center in Tyler.

"We are actually sold out. We were sold out before today," said JoAnn Fleming, Executive Director of Grassroots America, We the People.

The Champions of Freedom Dinner was held by Grassroots America, to honor Cruz and Gohmert of their efforts in Washington D.C.

"We think they are great men of courage and we're giving them an award tonight," said Fleming. "It's called, 'The Champions of Freedom Award.'"

On top of the awards, both men's efforts were recognized with a video montage of their biggest moments over the last year.

Even with the cold weather, both said they were happy to be in East Texas

"It's fantastic to be back in East Texas," said Ted Cruz. "It is a tremendous honor to be thanked by Grassroots America and to be recognized by the men and women that elect me to the senate. These are the men and women for who I work. I have the great privilege of working every day to serve 26 million Texans."

Through both speeches, the republican lawmakers told the crowd that protecting freedom is most important.

Senator Ted Cruz's father Rafael Cruz was planning to attend the ceremony tonight, but he was iced in and couldn't make the trip.

Love Ted Cruz and Louis Ghomert...true, courageous Patriots all, and they FIGHT FOR US. My hat's also off to Mike Lee, Trey Gowdy, and the other Conservatives whose names I can't think of at the moment. We need to post a list of the true Conservatives in politics today.

May God bless and protect all the Patriots in this fight for the return to the Constitution, our Freedom and Liberty. Get ready to suit up, everyone, and join forces with these men and women, be at the ready to do what we must when the time comes. And in the meantime, like freedom fighters during WWII, we must delay, resist, refuse, and destroy every effort of the socialists/communists/marxists/muslim infiltrators at every turn.
