Saudi ready to act alone on Iran, Syria: ambassador
Yahoo/AFP ^

Posted on 12/18/2013 4:57:19 AM PST by nuconvert

The West's policies on Iran and Syria are a "dangerous gamble" and Saudi Arabia is prepared to act on its own to safeguard security in the region, a top Saudi diplomat said.

"We believe that many of the West’s policies on both Iran and Syria risk the stability and security of the Middle East," the Saudi ambassador to Britain, Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz, wrote in a commentary in the New York Times

Well they won't have to go it alone just supply some bases of operation for a neighbor with similar goals.

I think you're right. I think the deal has already been made, they're just waiting for the green light from political leadership.

Saudi Arabia will allow Israeli aircraft to stage through their bases. This tremendously simplifies the problems for Israel in putting together a meaningful sized raid without using virtually their entire air force.

I believe it is also important to the Saudis that they not appear to be merely letting the Israelis use them. (and they're right about that) So I think they will not only allow the Israeli raid to use their bases, they will participate in the raid.

Only in the movies can two disparate air forces coordinate a raid with no prior planning and practice. They can't afford to be seen practicing together, rehearsing etc. So they won't be flying wingman for each other or hitting the same targets. I look for the Israelis to use their attack aircraft and precision weapons for most of the targets that matter, and to provide their own TARCAP. I look for the Saudis to provide a lot of the vital supporting attacks - hitting radar sites, air defense sites, airbases, etc. They'll make the corridor, the Israelis will fly through it. It sends a very strong message to Iran from the Saudis: we're not just letting the Israelis hit you, our beef with you is serious enough we will shed blood, yours and ours. (Kind of like blowing up someone's embassy...)

"We believe that many of the West’s policies on both Iran and Syria risk the stability and security of the Middle East," the Saudi ambassador to Britain, Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz, wrote in a commentary in the New York Times
Their best option is to assassinate Assad, who has been kept alive by the Iranian and Hizzie thugs and Putin's thugs; once he's blown to bits, the Iranians will have to escalate in Syria, adding thugs or proxy thugs, and spending piles of cash. Gosh, it's almost as if lifting those sanctions on Iran is related, but golly, how could that be? The current Syrian situation is more and more like late 1970s Lebanon.

The Saudis won’t do anything to Iran. They are too fat, too soft, and too corrupt. Any war of extended length will wind up instead toppling their top-heavy regime. The Saudis defense policy until now has been to instill fear in oil markets and let the blue-eyed infidels fight their wars for them

No kidding. Unless the Saudis can teach their Filipino house boys to fly jets real soon.

Leave it to out idiot “allies” to start something and then come crying to us for help. Obama would not lift a finger to help Israel, but watch how quickly he commits us to his Kingdom to protect Mecca.

Bingo! The Saudis may huff and puff but they'll never actually do it themselves. The Israelis would be fools to trust the Saudis - and they're definitely not fools.

There are the ultra-rich Saudi's (House of Saud) and a whole bunch of "not rich" Saudi's. The rich want to stay that way, and Iran is a threat. The U.S. has provided them with good equipment and bases for years. It's about time they used them to protect themselves. Huge added bonus is using the "enemy of my enemy", Israel.

Doing so will result in a revolt in SA. Many of their people will not accept using Israel as an open ally.

Strange bedfellows, indeed.

Since obama can’t see two moves ahead on the chessboard, I suspect he can’t envision what his actions have wrought! He has set forces in motion that cannot be stopped at this late date.

And his actions toward our military have and will continue to discourage voluntary enlistments to enable us to replenish our forces to the extent that we will have unmanned equipment sitting idle, unmaintained, and ill-equipped.

I disagree, I think he is well aware of what he is doing and can see the impact of supporting Iran. It’s exactly what he intends.

Anything which supports radical islam will be endorsed by the WH.

Your estimate is about as good as any. I note that the Israelis have at least 2,500 bunker busters, 500 of which are enhanced. I don’t know that the Soddies have any. But the Soddies do indeed have tools that can take out radar and rocket sites. The also have enough of a navy to pin the Iranians on the beach. I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Soddies have a supply of napalm which is one of my favorite weapons-—sure does get the rats scurrying.

“The Saudis defense policy until now has been to instill fear in oil markets and let the blue-eyed infidels fight their wars for them”

As in the aftermath of 9/11. I have never forgotten that 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers possessed Saudi citizenship. Can’t remember but I think about half that number were native-born. The others were immigrants that attained Saudi citizenship.

Correct on hijackers heritage. The tribes are tight- tight like bikers tight. Intentional by the man himself. Of course in a righteous world, about 15 arabic countries would just now be restoring power, water, and sewer services... During WW II, on a given night, around 1,000 Allied bombers would rain steel on a target or maybe two. Fast forward, visualize 1,000 B-52’s, or 500 B-52’s, 200 B-2’s, 100 B-1’s, 100 F-111’s and 100 F-15’s... just for starters. THIS WAS THE PROPER RESPONSE TO 9-11, and repeated nightly for AT LEAST 30 days nonstop. Not to forget the cruisers and destroyers and subs chucking Tomahawks day and night into targets that looked remotely like they might have escaped obliteration from the previous night’s bombing sorties. YEAH, I’M STILL PISSED OFF!
