According to the Pew Hispanic Center, there are about 11.2 million unauthorized persons residing in the United States. Each year, approximately 300,000 more unauthorized immigrants enter the country. In large part, these immigrants feel compelled to enter by either the explicit or implicit promise of employment in the American agriculture, construction, service and other industries. Most of this unauthorized flow comes from Mexico, a nation struggling with severe poverty. Survival has thus become the primary impetus for unauthorized immigration flow into the United States. Todays unauthorized immigrants are largely low-skilled workers who come to the United States for work to support their families. During the past several decades, the demand by U.S. businesses, large and small, for low-skilled workers has grown exponentially, while the supply of available workers for low-skilled jobs has diminished. Yet, there are only 5,000 green cards available annually for low-skilled workers to enter the United States lawfully to live and work. The only alternative to this is for them to get a temporary work visa. At their current numbers, these are woefully insufficient to provide legal means for the foreign-born to enter the United States to live and work, and thereby meet our countrys demand for foreign-born labor. In light of all this, many consider the prospect of being apprehended for crossing illegally into the United States a necessary risk. Even after being arrested and deported, reports indicate that many immigrants attempt to re-enter our country.

You mean...Illegal aliens?
Of course the Catholic church is for amnesty and open borders becasue a large percentage of Mexicans are Catholic. It’s all about the money in the plate.
Mexico is a FAR wealthier country than the United States, but all the wealth is concentrated into the hands of a few oligarchical families who have controlled it for centuries.
If you are truly concerned about "the poor," why don't you get Old Mexico to do some "redistributing" instead of participating in and encouraging the destruction of the US middle class?
The Bishop’s position boils down to “butts in the pews and Tithe.”
His position certainly is not scriptural or Holy in nature.
Good points.
Just skimming the titles, I thought this was about Michelle Pfeiffer, so now I am disappointed :(
who knew michelle pfeiffer was a bishop?
The immigration system isn’t broken.
We just have crooks and shysters in office who violate the Constitution, ignore the law, and use their oaths of office to wipe themselves.
This applies to both parties although democrats are more blatant and in-your-face about it.
No question those “Free Phones” are bringing ‘em in!
According to the Pew Hispanic Center, there are about 11.2 million unauthorized persons residing in the United States.
Ten or eleven years ago, during the Bush administration, we were told that there were 12 million illegals here and another 1 million were coming in every year.
So where did the extra ten million disappear to?
Don't try to tell us that all ten million left voluntarily because of the Obama economic depression.
The truth is that there are probably closer to 25 million illegals here - and maybe many more than that.
Yes and if they are legalized they will be allowed to bring in tens of millions relatives and they will be predominately on welfare. Illegals have already produced enough American born children to sway many future elections to the dems.
Another Catholic bishop campaigning for more pro-abortion voters. Immigrants vote about 70% for pro-abortion politicians.
And those pro-abortion politicians are the ones who are ramping up persecution of the Church.

Even that is too mild of a term for me since it's in the same vein as "illegal U-turn" or "illegal fishing". My preference is to label them criminal invaders since they are committing an act of war against the United States. And, as war criminals, they need to be treated as such, swiftly, consistently and without mercy.
Yes, 74% --- not 100% --- of the illegals, upon arriving on these shores, are nominal Catholics. And 5-10% percent per year leave the Church once they arrive --- yes, that´s 25% to 50% leaving in 5 years. So if this were a recruitment strategy for the Catholic Church, it sure isn´t working. Far more of them remain Catholics if they remain in Mexico and Central America.
Plus --- if my parish is any example --- immigrant (at least, Latino) Catholics contribute exceedingly little to the collection basket, which I can guess only by comparing the total from the 12 Noon Sunday Mass (the Spanish Mass) with that of the other, English Masses. So if it were meant as a moneymaker for the Catholic Church, that sure ain't working, either.
And the Vatican has said not one word about any one of dozens of possible kinds of competing legislative proposals.
Pope Francis has urgently asked that we treat migrants with real consideration for their physical needs, their cultural values, their membership in a civic community, and family reunification. All four of these goals could be achieved by prompt and humane repatriation to the home countries where each and every one of them has a family and holds legal citizenship.
"if my parish is any example"......Why in the world should we assume that?
There may be moneyed illegals lavishly funding burgeoning parishes somewhere, but I've had my antennae up for years, and I've never heard of it.
Have you?
Links? Evidence?
I haven't heard either way of every parish and niether have you. You say "I don't know my parish is an any sense atypical" but you don't know that is in any sense typical either. If so please provide the links and verification. And nothing has to be lavish - 15 million people giving five bucks a week around the country is lots of money. Every penny is gravy when there are open pews.
