Skip to comments.O-Care 'fix' extends to bare-bones plans (I thought these were garbage plans?)
Posted on 12/19/2013 6:02:59 PM PST by Red in Blue PA
The Obama administration is planning to allow individuals whose health insurance was cancelled under ObamaCare to buy catastrophic plans once intended mainly for young people.
Under the plan, individuals who are unable to renew their current health insurance will be able to purchase bare-bones coverage, according to a source connected with the health industry.
Current rules say that to qualify for a catastrophic plan, individuals must be either under 30 or qualify for a "hardship" exemption. The Obama administration's new guidance will argue that individuals whose 2013 plans were canceled and who determine that other options are not affordable should be able to purchase bare-bones coverage.

Rewriting the law......again!
Doesn't being a citizen of the US under the Obama presidency automatically count as a hardship?
The federal government is an unlawful and criminal organization. Rule by executive fiat, a dictatorship, will not end well.
You have to pass it to find out what’s in it.
Of course what was in it yesterday may not be in it today,
The fugging thing changes daily, It isn’t a law it’s a jigsaw puzzle with a carving knife used to make the pieces fit.
Rewriting the law......again”
Chaos is exactly right. They want these insurance companies to turn on a dime and put out a bare bones plan overnight. This is just ludicrous.
This law is invalid anymore. It’s been reworked so much it doesn’t even resemble the original signed into law.
It should be thrown out, and the people relieved of the illegal obligation, but then that should apply to the President as well.
I think it’s a backdoor way to suck the under-30s into the system and trap them there.
The “law” is whatever Emperor Obama deems it to be at the moment.
Make everyone who was affected, whole. Take the monies needed from the still unspent slush fund that was TARP.
Allow Federal income tax deductions for health insurance, just like property taxes and state income taxes.
Good catch - Man, Sean is gonna be busy on his show tonight
Mods, could we move this to Breaking News?
Mods, could we move this to Breaking News?
The man is a genius!
He is the premier “Jackass Savant” of our lifetime.
Good grief libs, get a damn clue for once in your life.
Actually, this is nothing new. He is just nmaking more fake news to try to look good. But, it is already written into the Unaffordable Care Act that those under 30 and those whose premiums would be more than 8% of one’s income are eligible for catastrophic policies. However, since I fall into the latter category, I explained this to the insurance company (Coventry One) from whom I hoped to buy insurance. They were clueless, and had no idea that a catastrophic policy was supposed to be one of my options. Of course, silly me, I was dealing directly with an insurance company, not going onto the government website. I’m sure THAT would have solved the problem! LOL
Of course, even the bare bones plans require contraception coverage.
Yet another ‘fix’?
Just scrap it. Kill it off. Get rid of it.
And, get FedGov out of the doctor’s office, and our back pockets.
Apparently they made this announcement via blog post. Talking about it now on Megyn Kelly.
4 days to go and Obama tosses a Hail Mary.
“Bare-bone catastrophic coverage” = exemption from complying with Obamacare for everyone who lost their insurance. All you have to do is say you can’t afford the “affordable” plan and you can have the crappy plan.
And who says these crappy plans are any more “affordable”? More kabuki theater, more lies, and more incompetence from the Obamanation.
Making it up as they go.
The Won is off to Hawaii tomorrow — will he give a press conference Friday? Or just sneak out of town with his 500 person entourage.
“The federal government is an unlawful and criminal organization. Rule by executive fiat, a dictatorship, will not end well.”
Just wanted to re-make your point.
A box of Band Aids and a bottle of H2O2?
Once again the king has spoken. And his word is law.
There not what you think..Some guy on Kelly Files they cost as much as a bronze plan but you get less..its from the government there out to screw you..they are making the old insurance companies look like gold
Obamacare, the legacy of THE WON.
Let’s get some lipstick on this pig!
Just yesterday evening, at our local good-ol-boys round table salon and tête-à-tête in our country propane and hay store, we were reviewing possible future scenarios regarding the devolution of obamacare and obama. I posited the following:
1. That if the Republicans just twiddled their thumbs about pretty much everything for next 3-4 months, obamacare would come so unraveled that the Democrats would beg the Republicans to save them, and that regardless of any legislative changes that might be made in a bipartisan fashion, obama would veto it all, preferring to see the complete destruction of the medical system and the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands as well as the total destruction of the Democrat Party for at least two generations.
2. That it was highly likely that obama would soon totally panic over the chaos wrought by obamacare and descend into utter lawlessness by attempting to govern completely by diktat. There was also a reasonable probability that obama’s attempted dictatorship would become so severe that Congress would be forced to initiate impeachment.
It would appear that this second prediction is already starting to occur.
Anyone knows the details of these new plans yet? Premiums, deductibles, limits, coverage?
Erick Erickson will be hosting for Rush tomorrow, so it should be good listening.
Those are the best plans Obamacare has in the regard that they actually are insurance. They would make sense for a single 20-30 somethings. Pair them with some type of gap plan and it wouldn’t be bad for other folks too.
“This law is invalid anymore. “
It really rather kind of is. There are so many exceptions, “fixes,” waivers, and, so on that the law really doesn’t have a meaning anymore. I don’t know how insurers manage it. I don’t now how the IRS enforces it.
Some posit that single-payer is waiting in the wings but I don’t know how such a thing would even get a breath in Congress after this. What’s the pitch? “You know that last really great utopian health care fix we passed that, um, er, was supposed to cost you less and make your life better? Well, it didn’t work and now we want to take even more of your money and even more power over you to fix the problems we made with the last big fix. Totes for real.”
They’re heading for ruining the government’s credibility with the masses on the issue and also destroying the private health insurance market at the same time. End result? We may be heading back toward cash-for-services doctors. They may have strangled their own golden goose.
I'm sure they'll just change up the smoothly written, fully functioning code at healthcare.gov to get right on that.
By December 23, of course.
Sounds about right. Good commentary.
Did they give these plans a name yet?
They now have Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum plans. Is this the Rotting Wood plan?
Going back to “cash for services,” would be the one biggest, single change to effectively rein in the cost of healthcare.
Frankly, there has long been discussion that the only kind of health insurance should be these catastrophic type plans.
You don’t have car insurance to buy gas or get the oil changed.
“Doesn’t being a citizen of the US under the Obama presidency automatically count as a hardship?”
Only if you’re in a ‘targeted-for-more-hardships’ group. You know....Christian, Conservative and especially rich, white male.
“Is this the Rotting Wood plan?”
No, it’s the Fiber Board (soon to be Card Board) plan. Stay tuned for the Crumpled Paper plan (the end result and goal all along).
What part of “the Obama leftists seek to destroy the USA” are people too stupid to comprehend?
The insurance companies have already done all of their number crunching with these plans being illegal - Obama just roasted their actuarial balance.
And he did it by changing the law unilaterally - again.
Instead of 3 plans there are actually 4:
Dirt(as in, that’s what they’ll be shovel(ready job)ing on you.
Can anyone tell me how the government is going to know whether or not you have insurance? Are you supposed to provide proof when you file your tax return? What if you file online? Will the insurance company require your SS number and report it to the government?
There isn’t a single insurance company in America that would walk into this mess. It’s the slowest and most deliberate business base in the nation. If you introduced a new scenario....typically, it’s at least six months of discussion and analysis before a meeting of the executives where they approve or accept the change.
Again, for 500th time, I’ll point out that no one on the Administration staff has ever worked in industry or real business. If they had....they would know the processes that businesses use to be successful. Nothing ever happens overnight.
This costs insurance companies MILLIONS every time he does this.... This will put them out of business.... Which is THE PLAN
Sure it all includes birth control pills, IUDs, mammograms, maternity care, pedicatric vision and dental.....
None of which can my 29 year old single SON use
but even his bare bones plan has to cover all that
I got him the catastrophic only plan, and it is twice the price it was last year, he has never been sick, never filed a claim... THIS IS CRAZY
None of them allow you to go to MD Anderson or mayo Clinic. None of them include MS drugs. Etc etc etc. None of them include any kind of real treatments for actual illnesses
Some companies offer discount plans for people who wish to pre-pay for periodic maintenance; they get the guarantee of having the customer use them instead of someone else, and in exchange they charge the customer less than the normal retail rate. There's nothing inherently wrong with such plans--the only thing that's wrong is pretending they're "insurance".
