Duck season may soon be over for A&E.

The Robertson family released a statement late Thursday that raises doubts about the future of one of the most popular shows on cable television.

“We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm,” the Robertson family said in a prepared statement. “We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.”

Kick them (A&E) to the curb.

ANY network would kiss your butt to bring you on board.

I imagine first, second and third, the contract the Robertsons have with the production company (and ultimately with A&E) forbids creating any competing program, and reserves all rights to any future programs.

I don't think A&E will be taking any offers for a buyout of the contract. And I think that if those three episodes in the can are actually aired, those will be the last of the Duck Dynasty. I think if A&E was going to back down, they would have done so when the first facebook group exceeded half of their average audience for the typical A&E program.

Now with two Phil Robertson support pages on Facebook each over a million likes, it is all down to figuring out exactly how much money they're going to have to give back to advertisers.

The real proof will be in tomorrow's ratings numbers for the Duck Dynasty marathon. If it is lower than the average weekly repeat, A&E will quietly start shopping around Duck Dynasty for syndication. If not, they'll be touting about the public’s support, demonstrated in the only meaningful number: number of eyes watching the network.

Lots of people will be watching thinking they’re helping the Robertsons. I think less viewers will help them. Let A&E know we won’t watch them because of their political views towards Christians.

It’s mighty hypocritical of them to say they no longer want Phil on their show while at the same time running show after show after show with Phil in them.

From what I understand, Will is brilliant and you can bet that their contract is not as iron clad as you think. These are not swamp people here. Duck Dynasty might be dead but you have not heard or seen the last of the Robinson family... not by a long shot. A&E has lost bigtime here and they are too stupid to see it. Look for major changes in the management in the next year. Millions lost really fires up those that are in it for profit.

A&E is locked out of my DVR... no one in this home will be watching anything there until or unless this is reversed and an apology is made to all.

Breach of contract will be arguable. It’s hard to claim that Phil hurt the brand when the audience backs Phil.

I think many will have tuned in for the first time as well, hearing all of the controversy. The numbers will likely shoot up, temporarily.

Actually I’m surprised they weren’t on the Discovery channel. What are they doing on A&E?

GLENN BECK WANTS THEM ON BLAZE. That would accomplish two good things.

Never watched the show, wont start now to boycott A&E, but those must be some damn interesting duck calls to be on for 5 seasons.

What the heck happens in a typical episode?

Good for them.

Of course A&E's gay Gestapo will double down, and look to have someone in court for hate crimes.

I am getting old. Let's start this fight for real.

Any nose-in-the-air conservatives (and you know who you are) who think this dust up over a reality television show isn’t important have lost their minds. This IS a battle in the culture war. It’s a pretty significant one, due to the high profile nature of the subjects. The result of this is now quite important.

If the Duck Dynasty group fails to go on, then the Leftists have won.
