Feds begin killing barred owls to help save spotted owl
Fox News ^ | Dec 21, 2013 | AP

An experiment to see if killing invasive barred owls will help the threatened northern spotted owl reverse its decline toward extinction is underway in the forests of Northern California.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Friday that specially trained biologists have shot 26 barred owls in a study area on the Hoopa Valley Indian Reservation northeast of Arcata, Calif.

The service is spending $3.5 million over six years to remove 3,600 barred owls from sites in Oregon, Washington and California.

It is not unusual to kill one species to help a threatened or endangered one. Cormorants and sea lions are regularly killed to help salmon.

They have no idea -- but if it's done in the name of the environment, it's perfectly fine to kill one species just in case it may help another...

Interfering with the natural order.... shame on them. Extinction is a natural process. It should be allowed to happen.

The liberal plan to save themselves is to wipe out conservatives, just like the gov’t.

“no it is not about the tree hugging as much as being marxist.”

And control...

Can you imagine the outcry if people would start to kill these same owls because they cut down the trees where they nest or something?

But if they kill one species in the name of saving another, even though there is NO evidence whatsoever that there is any correlation, that’s OK.

But I thought it was logging that was killing the spotted owl. That’s what they said when they decimated the timber industry.

The Fish & Wildlife Service also issues “take” permits allowing utilities to chop up golden and bald eagles without penalties.

Wonder what they’d think about an experiment to see if killing invasive wolves would help the threatened livestock of ranchers reverse its decline in numbers due to wolf attacks.

“But I thought it was logging that was killing the spotted owl. That’s what they said when they decimated the timber industry.’

Well — it seems that was not the case...

“Major cutbacks in logging in old growth forest that spotted owls prefer as habitat have not turned around their population decline”,

That’s the problem when government gets involved, they don’t do things based on evidence or logic.

Destroying logging, farming, ranching, fishing .. jobs and local businesses - is the United Nations Agenda 21 goal.

Logging had nothing to do with the spotted owl situation. Rather Barred owls are the single biggest threat to spotted owl survival.

The Feds will waste another $3.5 million . While veterans get their pension cuts.

Every spring I would find dead lambs in my pastures during a three week period. The heads would be ripped open. The soft tissues of the mouth, tounge, and brains would be gone. I could not figure out what was doing it? It took two more years to discover Barred owls would kill the lambs at night to feed their newly hatched chicks. No body meat from them, just the head.

Nasty creatures.

Just think of the FedGov as a jobs program for wildlife biologists who cannot find employ elsewhere. If logging was still big there the logging companies would have to hire some....just a thought

Knowing this feckless Big Government nanny state, the EPA will successfully kill off all the owls, but the lumber industry will still be banned from the empty forest.

In five years they will find out the rodent population is soaring because of reduced owl predation. Then they will hire more people to shoot the rodents.

This is right out of Mao’s economic planning book.

Conservative business people have an opportunity in this story and the one about wind farms and eagles. About the owl - "The timber industry in the Northwest was reduced by 80% to save the spotted owl, but during that time there are now few owls than when 5,000 had jobs and the price of housing was lower, because good timber practices made good homes for owls, and people."

Then we turn to eagles killed by wind farms, "In to save the spotted owl the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Funds all stopped the lumber industry - but where are they today in an effort to save the eagle? Why is it that some animals or birds can be killed and nobody cares? But destroying jobs and raising the cost of housing is no problem for the well off environmental activists in San Francisco or Seattle?" TELL THESE STORIES AND SHAME THE PEOPLE who are ruining the American way of life.
