Obama Says 1 Million Signed up for Health Care (BS!!!)
ABC News ^ | 12/22/2013 | RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR and JULIE PACE

His health care plan facing a dicey transition, President Barack Obama said Friday that insurance sign-ups are surging now that the government's website is working better for consumers. But it was too soon to say the rollout has turned the corner.

More than 1 million people have enrolled since Oct. 1, Obama said at his end-of-the-year press conference. That's more than two-and-a-half times the number on Nov. 30, when major fixes to the website were completed. At that point, only 365,000 had signed up through new federal and state markets offering subsidized private insurance.

"That is a big deal," Obama said of getting coverage for uninsured people. "That's why I ran for this office."

Separately, officials said 3.9 million people have qualified for government health care through the law's Medicaid expansion. Even so, things aren't exactly humming along.

HealthCare.gov was down for part of the day Friday, as technicians attempted to fix an error that occurred Thursday night when the site was undergoing routine maintenance, officials explained.

The administration cannot afford for the balky website to crash this weekend. Because of Monday's deadline to sign up so coverage can take effect Jan. 1, unusually heavy traffic is expected on the federal site and those run by states.

Largely hidden from consumers, another set of technical problems is frustrating insurers, who say the government continues to send them inaccurate data on some enrolled individuals. Insurers call some of those jumbled enrollment files "orphans" and others "ghosts."

They could turn into gremlins after Jan. 1 for some patients trying to use their new coverage. Consumers might show up at the pharmacy counter or doctor's office only to be told they're not in the system.

*sigh* maybe some day there will be a media that asks a follow up question such as “How many people, out of those 1 million that have selected a plan, have actually PAID?”

Doesn’t matter as there are few doctors and few hospitals who will take Obama’s garbage.

Yep! In his speech before taking questions he claimed 1M had signed up but the first questioner, Julie Pace of AP, commented on his credibility that has taken a hit because of Obamacare.

Obama responds - On the other hand, since the last press conference, I now have a couple million people, maybe more, who are going to have health care on January 1st. And that is a big deal. That's why I ran for this office.

So with in a few min. he goes from 1M to a couple of million.

Who in their right mind can believe any thing the POS says?

Of the approx. 1.2 million nationwide who have signed up on the federal site or a state site, the majority signed up for Medicaid. The number of sign ups for private health insurance and Medicaid combined are about 3.8 million less than the number of people whose insurance was cancelled.

So right now the real number is -4.8 million compared to where we started. To get to the President's goal of insuring 7 million uninsured people we first have to re-insure 4.8 million people who lost their insurance. So basically 1.2 million of the 12 million people now in need of insurance have signed up (or at least they hope the website actually signed them up).

Its a gigantic failure.

The President: "I now have a couple million people, maybe more, who are going to have health care on January 1st."

Like most liberals, math isn't his strong suit. He forgot the 5 million people whose insurance was cancelled. He should have said:

"I now have 4 million fewer people insured than when we started..."

The last benefit left for the obamacare supporters is that it covers more people. Obamacare is not cheaper, people are losing doctors and hospitals, and, about a million people have lost coverage. I have read two liberal pundits who said they are waiting to see if more people are covered January 1. One said that he would feel like a chump if there are more that lost their coverage than got covered under Obamacare.

First Obama delayed employer plans from obamacare. This left about 1 million that have lost coverage. Now all Obama has to do is to claim that over 1 million have secured coverage under Obamacare, and that the number who lost coverage is less than that.

1mil is a far cry from the rest of the population, that's supposed to be signed up in the next 9 days.

Actually, they have less then two days. They must be signed up by the 23rd, per the Obama delay from the 15th.

Now, to address a more important issue: .-- .... -.-- / .- .-. . / -.-- --- ..- / ... .... .. .-.. .-.. .. -. --. / ..-. --- .-. / -. . ... - .-.. . ... ..--..

Sign-ups are surging and it’s been said that you cab keep your insurance if you want it was the biggest lie of the year.
It’s just another of his pick a number any number will do.

deadline is here and they only got a ‘million’?

how many of that ‘million’ are just new signups for medicare/medicaid under THE OLD RULES... but have to sign up through the ‘new route’?

how many of that ‘million’ are ‘extended’ signups for medicare/medicaid?

“This is so stupid. They should have just put those original 36 million without insurance on the Medicaid program.”

First, I doubt the 36M figure is a valid number and even if it was, a good percentage of that number were people who chose to not buy insurance. The number of people who wanted insurance and couldn’t get it was quite small and THAT group could have been added to an expanded Medicaid program, imo.

Secondly, I agree with you and a variation of this (expanding Medicaid) was part of the Republicans’ proposed alternative to Obamacare when it was being debated in Congress...only to be summarily dismissed/ignored by the democrats in control of both houses of Congress at the time, iirc.
