Hawaiian Community is Ready for the Obamas (Have barf bag ready)
The Los Angeles Times ^ | Saturday, December 21, 2013 | Maeve Reston

KAILUA, Hawaii — Five years after Barack Obama first made Kailua his winter White House as president-elect, his arrival Friday night was a decidedly low-key event.

His sojourns have, without question, put this laid-back beach town on the map. Property values have soared here and in neighboring Lanikai, where the president likes to play golf. Chinese buyers now pop into local real estate offices inquiring about houses in "the president's neighborhood." And to the annoyance of residents, tourists wheel through the streets on fat-tired bikes snapping pictures of the Obamas' vacation rentals.

SNIP

"I pity the guy that he's had such an adversarial Congress with the Republicans," said Doug Miller, a retired Honolulu police officer who lives up the street from the house that the Obamas are renting this year. "If he came up with a cure for cancer, they would somehow be against it."

Miller, who was in his front yard Friday steering his family's pet tortoise, Petrie, away from chewing the Christmas light cords, had already put out his Obama Chia Head, which was sprouting green tendrils of hair, and said he planned to put up a sign inviting the president to come by for a beer.

After the shaky rollout of his new healthcare law, Miller said Obama needed a real break: "It's unfortunate that there's been so many glitches — that's not his fault — it's a monster for him to unfold that kind of a thing. So I'm OK with him staying here despite the significant inconvenience that it does cause the neighborhood."

No mention in this Obama cheerleading piece about the tens of millions of dollars Obama's Hawaii vacations have cost taxpayers since 2008, nor any discussion of the $3500 per day rental charge for the house Obama stays at.

Doug Miller, a retired Honolulu police officer, sounds as though his elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top. A real Obamabot.

Wow. All I have heard are complaints about the inability to drive ANYWHERE around the base in Honolulu. One reason is due to the president being there. Another reason is that Bill Murray is making a movie using Air Force ONE and has roads on base closed. That might be a secret though.

A retired HPD officer that owns a house in Kailua?

Major BS flag! This guys had to have been astronomically corrupt. No way a cop buys a house in that area. Check Zillow for house values and figure how some dumb cop buys in there.

Kinda makes you wonder how a retired police officer
can afford to live in such a pricey neighborhood?
Where houses rent for $3500 a day?

A Cop lives on the same street Obama’s are renting? Wow- Cops must be millionaires in HAWAII.

Oh Voy...another Obama lover who thinks Obama should not be responsible for anything he does, says, doesn’t do, etc.

Great point. Dougie sounds like one retired police office who is doing quite well for himself.

The suspension of any critical thinking on the part of his followers, is an amazing thing to observe. He could take their spouse, their children, their parents, kill them all, and they’d simply think he had a good reason, and praise him for the hard choices he’s had to make.

1930s Germany all over again...

The One...
China...

We’re headed into very troubled waters.

He may have bought in thirty or forty years ago.

Had some friends buy a large estate in La Canada many years ago. The place was run down, but it sits on 3 to 5 acres.

They paid $200k for it. Has to be worth millions today.

He may have bought in thirty or forty years ago.

In your dreams, that area has always been one of the most expensive parts of Oahu. Laniki beach has been world famous forever.

And that far back, he would have been a very junior cop working at the bottom of the wage scale, probably barely able to find a rental.

They better be steppin' and fetchin' their butt kissin' best.

Unless he gets some Joe Arpaio jammies instead, Hawaii is likely to be Boss Barry's very own little kingdom soon.
