Casino Royale: License to Chill

The casino push in Massachusetts is a lot like Obamacare.

And the rollout has been just as bad.

In the end, it just might be a good idea to repeal both and start all over again.

The politicians in Washington, from President Obama on down, who want you to have Obamacare, wouldn't be caught dead signing up for it themselves, even if they could break through the troubled website. They want helpless wretches like you and me to have it, not them.

In Massachusetts, the politicians on Beacon Hill, who want you to have a casino in your town, would rather be caught shirtless in a tattoo parlor in the old Scollay Square than be eyeballed entering a casino in their neighborhood. They want the gamblers to go to your neighborhood, not theirs. They want you to gamble away your grocery money, not theirs.

They believe you can create wealth without actually creating anything.

And they want their cut.

I’m sure Foxwoods is donating plenty to defeat it.

Casinos are an entertainment industry. As long as people treat them like that, it’s fine. Blowing a hundred bucks on nickel slots isn’t much different than going to a night club or playing a round of golf. Occasionally you might even come home a winner.

Of course, like going to bars, some people go overboard.

That may be the case in Vegas....But does anyone go to Atlantic City or an Indian Casino for the “Entertainment”?

If you consider gambling entertainment, yes.
